As is the matter of where to get the EP software, assuming you have an actual 3705. And what hardware and software on the mainframe is going to support connection to this box? I do remember that for dial-up lines it would allow for 300 baud or 110 baud, or even for 2741s, depending on the first character you typed. That wsn't part of IBM standard EP. There were mods, both commercial (Comm Pro comes to mind) and installation-written to do this. Lynn Wheeler has written about this kind of support here. Hardwired lines were fixed speed, and could be higher than 300. (I believe O for 300 baud, and S for 110 baud.) Faster lines might only be at a fixed baud rate. Of course you don't need a 3705 to talk to async terminals. A perfectly ordinary UART such as used to come with every PC is capable of talking in ASCII or EBCDIC at any reasonable speed, including the 134.5 baud used by the 2741. Many years ago I got my 2741 to print hello, world from a little MS-DOS C program. Well lots of nostalgia, but what are you really trying to accomplish here? I know this is what was done 35 years ago, but I don't know now who knows how to do it. I do remember that for dial-up lines it would allow for 300 baud or 110 baud, or even for 2741s, depending on the first character you typed. Hardwired lines were fixed speed, and could be higher than 300. (I believe O for 300 baud, and S for 110 baud.) Faster lines might only be at a fixed baud rate. cp67 delivered to the univ. had automatic terminal type identification for 1052 and a couple of 2741 types. 2702/2703 was possible to dynamically change the line-scanner type using the SAD CCW (use one line-scanner type, try a couple operations and if they get errors, switch to a different line-scanner type). the univ. had a number of TTY/ASCII so I had to add TTY support to CP67 ... and tried to do it also using dynamic terminal type identification. I also tried to support single dial-in number for all terminal types ... aka hunt group ... common pool of lines. However, IBM had taken short cut and hard-wired the line-speed oscillator to each line ... so while it was possible to change the line-scanner ... it wasn't possible to change the line-speed (original 1052 2741 had same line speed, but TTY was different). This was motivation for univ. to start a clone-controller project, building channel interface board for Interdata/3 programed to emulate 2702 ... but able to also do dynamic line-speed operation. This was later improved to Interdata/4 for the channel interface and cluster of Interdata/3s dedicated to line-scanner. Four of us get written up as responsible for (some part of) the clone-controller business. Later Perkin-Elmer buys Interdata and the clone-controller continues to be sold under the PE logo (in the late 90s, I ran into PE box in large datacenter handling much of the dial-up point-of-sale terminals on the east coast, 1200 baud ascii). Re: JES2 SPOOL question
It is my understanding that this is the purpose of $MSPL, but I did not have much luck (probably due to a procedural error(?) on my part). I just went through the process in reverse. Migrating Mod 3 spool to Mod 9. I issued a $PSPL prior to the $MSPL. When the $MSPL was issued, very little actually happened. It has been my experience that there is always something on the spool volume being drained that will require an IPL to make the something available for deletion. Given a SYSPLEX, this is a non-issue. Once the something is available for deletion, SPOOL offload/reload, or just plain $P* can be used to free the original spool volume. HTH, snip In JES2, I have 11 SPOOL volumes but the last two I added were mod 9's, whereas, the others are mod 3's. I did not mean to put the SPOOL volumes on mod 9's. I have issued the drain ($PSPOOLA) to drain that volume but there is obviously a lot of stuff on it and I don't know how long it will take to drain! After it drains, I will run jobs to INIT, FORMAT, and START the new SPOOLA (which will be a mod 3). My question is: Can I use the $MSPL to migrate the contents of SPOOLA to a differently named SPOOL volume(say, SPOOLC)? I'm assuming , in that case, I would only need to INIT a mod 3 with a different name. I'm thinking that might be a better way to get rid of the mod 9 and implement the mod 3 more quickly. Some of the stuff on SPOOLA is EXECUTING rather than, for example, AWAITING HARDCOPY. BTAM, TCAM, RTAM or similar in what was MVS There were add-ons to NCP NTO or NPSI with LLC5 PAD that might achieve something similar that made ASCII teletypes appear as SNA LU type 1, 2 or 3. I know this is what was done 35 years ago, but I don't know now who knows how to do it. I do remember that for dial-up lines it would allow for 300 baud or 110 baud, or even for 2741s, depending on the first character you typed. Hardwired lines were fixed speed, and could be higher than 300. (I believe O for 300 baud, and S for 110 baud.) SMF-Exit IEFACTRT in SYS1.SAMPLIB does not show step name
[Sorry if some of you may read this twice – I had some trouble with my subscription to this list due to a changed E-Mail address] All, on my zPDT z/OS 2.1 System I’ve recently tried to get the SMF-Exit IEFACTRT provided in SYS1.SAMPLIB up and running. But in vain. I’ve built with this JCL: //ASMLNK EXEC ASMACL, // PARM.C='NODECK,RENT', // PARM.L='LET,LIST,XREF,RENT,REFR,NCAL,REUS' //* //SYSLIB DD DISP=SHR,DSN=SYS1.MACLIB // DD DISP=SHR,DSN=SYS1.AMODGEN //* //C.SYSIN DD DISP=SHR,DSN=SYS1.SAMPLIB(IEEACTRT) //L.SYSLMOD DD DISP=SHR,DSN=USER.LINKLIB(IEFACTRT) And I’ve installed it with EXIT DELETE EXITNAME(SYS.IEFACTRT) MODNAME(IEFACTRT) FORCE(YES) EXIT ADD EXITNAME(SYS.IEFACTRT) MODNAME(IEFACTRT) ABENDNUM(1) FIRST Now… the exit gets invoked, but the printed STEP-Name is always blank (or garbage sometimes). See this as a (cut off) sample….. -JOBNAME STEPNAME PROCSTEPRC EXCPTCB -IBMUSERP 00 83 ** -IBMUSERP 04 12622 ** Did I something wrong (It’s the first time I’ve build and installed an exit)? Or did IBM introduced a bug in this exit with release 2.1 of z/OS? My assembler skills are rather bad (at least I think so). I’ve looked across the source but I’ve seen nothing that looks strange to me (but as said – my assembler skills became rather bad after several years of java coding)… Thank you very much for any idea or hint….
