The op k e,1’d them. They did a d r,l to get the message number. I wasn’t
watching the console that closely but the only time a op had to reply to the
message was to bring down the job for a planned IPL.
Sometimes (if the system stayed up for that long) the jobs would run for 2-3
weeks and we had multiple jobs running concurrently and there would be 4 or
more wtor’s outstanding. Since the jobs were submitted by production control
they did most of the care and feeding. BTW these were really multitasking jobs
I looked at a dump for one of the bugs and found 31 tcb’s. I was flabbergasted
that they did so many attach’s.

Not that I'm aware of. Having said that, if a data set is selected from a
SimpList object list using function 'I' (Information), all of the attributes of
the data set are displayed on a panel and ANY of those attributes can be
changed to different values. This includes changing the number of member
generations. Depending on what's being changed the data set may need to be
recreated, but this is all done transparently to the user.

So I have a PDSE V2 and it doesn't have the number of generations defined for
it.

Is there a way, without recreating it, to alter it to change/add the number of

If I understand your question, the answer is no.

You *might* use a different value to indicate the PET was released for a
specific reason, such as 0 for process work, 2 for error occurred, and 3
for terminate. Or you could use 0 for everything except for owning
address space termination (which is actually the design I would
recommend) and set flags in the control block where the PET to resume
was passed to indicate what to do.

Owning address space termination is a special case when Pause/Release is
used between multiple address spaces (which is the best reason for using
it), because if the owning address space terminates you need to know
that you were released for a very abnormal reason, possibly without that
address being able to set any flags in the control block, and handle it
uniquely.
