At a large company that I worked for in the 80's and early 90's we had a couple of sharp Sysprogs who developed an extension to JES3 that allowed large sysout files to be stored on the 3850 rather than the spool, which wasn't large enough. Then there was the ability to modify the printer to print from one of those spool datasets.
