Re: Email Providers
The PLESK web site doesn't seem to say whether the filtering is done in the SMTP session or after the fact. What I'm looking for is a 5xx response for anything flagged as spam, so that legitimate senders know that there is an issue and can contact me via alternate channels. From my perspective, quarantining spam negates the benefits of filtering. Also, I couldn't find anything on the web site about whether the end user can configure in-session filtering for his mailbox, much less whether I can tailor 5xx responses for specific CIDR blocks and spcific domains. Do I use a promo code for registering metsch.family? Thanks. -- Shmuel (Seymour J.) Re: Email Providers
Yes, tagged addresses can be very useful, both for filtering into task-specific inboxes and for detecting when a vendor is selling your addresses to spammers. While the use of "+" for this purpose is most common, some providers use "-" and less common characters, e.g., "{". Be aware that there are some brain-dead web sites that "validate" e-mail addresses, ivariably written by people who have never read RFC 5321 or 5322 and reject valid addresses. Even if your provider doesn't support tagged addresses, some e-mail clients let you filter on arbitrary header fields, -- Shmuel (Seymour J.) I just use filters to assign one of several labels. Used to do that with yahoo folders, but that was greatly reduced about 15 years ago so I switched. With Gmail you can use task-specific e-mail addresses that route to your common inbox. Let's suppose for example your Gmail address is ban...@gmail.com. You could subscribe to IBM-MAIN using this e-mail address: banana+ibmm...@gmail.com and that'll route to the same inbox, but you can generally use your e-mail client to sort based on the incoming e-mail address. Just add a plus sign (+) plus any tag you want. Here are some lesser known but possibly interesting free e-mail providers in no particular order: 1. I do use Thunderbird, but I haven't tried it with Protonmail. Re: Email Providers
Unfortunately my ISP have no such service and I don't know any reasonable paid service which provide me features I want. Usually fee is just to have better limits - more disk space, more emails, etc. In fact I don't need it. I think my requirements are quite basic: just regular email client (means POP3/IMAP) and no madness with spam filtering. Yahoo looked good when I started with RACF-L, but thing changed completely with IBM-MAIN. BTW: I wish listserv would have POP3/IMAP interface. It would simplify many things. -- Radoslaw Skorupka (currently unemployed) Lodz, Poland W dniu 26.01.2021 o 00:31, Gibney, Dave pisze: My private email has been with my former local ISP for a very long time. Now I can answer: I hate this disclaimer. I was almost ready to switch to private email when they started with this cr*p, but 1. I'm lazy, 2. other people have similar disclaimers, so I felt not so guilty. Regarding gmail - I already have gmail account and I don't want to use it for other activities. I attempted to use second account, but this provide complexity. However I have no luck - yahoo is bad, aol is the same company so I won't even try. --> protonmail.com, free, but worth paying for. Thunderbird is possible, although more difficult than normal. I think there are many reasons to avoid gmail, although I do not (obviously). yahoo is garbage; and the tech world still wonders why they still exist. Maybe big G secretly subsidises them to have some pretend competition for lawsuit purposes. Anyway, can't say I'll miss the huge disclaimer your former employer appended to your posts. sas On Mon, Jan 25, 2021 at 4:38 PM Radoslaw Skorupka < 0368479ca34d-dmarc-requ...@listserv.ua.edu> wrote: > ... > PS It seems I will have to change email again, because yahoo insist to > treat most of the IBM-MAIN postings as a spam, and even does not allow to > manually mark it as non-spam message.
