Please note the 31-bit Java variant offers something less than 2 GB of memory per Java Virtual Machine to programs. IIRC, Z/OS address space constraints may come into play: MEMLIMIT, in JCL, or system via SMFPRMXX “is the limit on the use of virtual storage above 2 gigabytes for a single address space“ Your site’s SMF exits, IEFUSI and the like, can (silently) muck things up.
