*by Bob Thomas* For decades we've all been hearing about the demise of the mainframe. And yes, a fair number of small to mid-sized companies have switched to distributed systems. But there were also enterprises that abandoned their goal to get rid of their mainframe after spending multiple millions of dollars in the effort.
