I'd recommend ibus to depends on ibus-gtk and ibus-gtk3.
'dpkg --status ibus' shows the two packages are not depended.

Correction:
The fresh installation also does not install ibus-gtk and ibus-gtk3 by
default but im-switch could run ibus-dameon

You might have installed fresh. So It could have worked out of the box.

Anyway the problem is caused because ibus does not depends on ibus-gtk and
ibus-gtk3 and it's not an upstream issue.

I had upgraded from lubuntu 14.10 to lubuntu 15.04 running daily images of
15.04.

I solved it myself through trial and error.
I installed ibus-gtk and ibus-gtk3.
Then It began working.
