I've remotely participated in several IETFs.
I find that the biggest problem with remote attendance is the lack of
visual cues. I've come to realise just how important these are in a meeting.
-are people paying attention, are they interested / confused /
distracted / bored?
Also there's no
request, I think it will increase
participation maybe about 5% globaly and 20% locally, so mostly
encourages regional participations. I will also add that if the IETF
can consider newcomers to get discount for one day, because newcomers
may want to get a feeling of the meeting.

notices have been going out on the first of every month for years.
