Hi, Backtrack is live CD distro, though a vmware image is also available. I assume that you downloaded the ISO image. Just burn the image to a CD (don't write as a file) and use it like you would use an Ubuntu live CD.
Now if want to install BT4 on harddisk, it is possible, but very risky and not recommended. There is a big chance that a normal user would screw up the installation process. If you still want to install it, make sure you understand each step well enough before you attempt it (you have to do it at your own risk). Detailed procedure are available at the following sites: http://hydtech.wordpress.com/2009/04/21/how-to-install-backtrack-3-or-4-to-hard-drive-along-with-windows-xp-ubuntu-fedora-opensuse-on-lenovo-thinkpad-x60/ http://www.google.co.in/url?sa=t&source=web&ct=res&cd=2&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.offensive-security.com%2Fdocumentation%2Fbt4install.pdf&ei=qiX5SankIJKMkAWtg4ngCg&usg=AFQjCNHuxN9PY1qFXOsgDj_EfwJHrI9qeg&sig2=E91FNX95JxP_vg8vuDFiyw Regards, Gokul Das --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ "Freedom is the only law".
