Dear friends:
I had invited a few of the ILUGC members for an interaction session with
BOSS Team at CDAC Chennai and the meeting was held yesterday (thursday 12th
aug 2010) 4:00 p.m.

My basic objective was to expose my colleagues to the favor of LUG members
(their expertise and experience) and expose the LUG team as to what is
happening at BOSS centre ; discuss briefly about BOSS 4.0 development /
testing and ways to broadbase the community involvement.

I thank the members * who visited us and shared their views, and gave their
valuable suggestions.
[* Ma Sivakumar, Raji Seetharaman, Raman, Srinivasan, Sri Ramadoss &
Vijayakumar -- have i got the list right?]

Queries/Suggestions/
Discussions during the meeting:
?? BOSS Download : packages & source, and user manual could be downloaded
from bosslinux portal
?? BOSS content vis-a-vis Debian/Ubuntu, etc. : suitable documentations are
in the offing ; inputs from BOSS team and from agencies we interact with
will be suitably demarcated in the repository (to enable
testing/adaptation/enhancement)
?? BOSS repository, access to portal, etc.: after shifting to the new
premises (at TIDEL Park), the setup and portal revamp is on to enable
external access (initially with commit restricted to inhouse group). Some
wiki pages, tracking mechanisms are being activated. The version control
(subversion) mechanism currently active in a limited manner is being
reworked.

** NRCFOSS portal (http://nrcfoss.org.in) redesigned to include pages on
FOSS packages, resource persons, etc.
** Student projects : the portal could provide a platform for project
related interactions & uploads. The colleges could be asked to take the
responsibility of monitoring the students while CDAC/NRCFOSS could provide
the organizational stamp (issuing certificates) and enable community experts
to contribute.
[The LUG members also participated in the discussion we were having with a
set of Professors from Colleges -- inviting the colleges to come up with
suggestions for a committed plan of action]
** Involvement of BOSS team in LUG activities : some members are already in
the LUG ; a few of the BOSS team members (e.g., from Bengaluru - Open
Office, Mumbai - Orca) are part of the FOSS groups related to the packages
they work on ; sharing queries/responses, participation in LUG events,
etc., will be taken up

I hope this will kindle more cohesive interactions with useful
contributions/responses from NRCFOSS/BOSS team.

thanks and best wishes
Srinivasan.

Dr. S. Srinivasan
Project Scientist
NRCFOSS/BOSS
CDAC Chennai.
