Exceed is a X-emulator from Hummingbird. Very pricy.
We replaced Exceed with Cygwin - which has an X server, if you go beyond the
default install, and should serve the purpose.

XMing is a very find X server for windows, easy to install and use.
It's a compilation of cygwin's X using mingw, so that no cygwin-bloat is not
present.
I routinely use it ( with colinux m/c inside my windows laptop), and it
survives
suspend/hibernates easily, pretty stable.

Hi All,
I'm looking for an OSS alternative to SPSS. I remember Sudev sir
mentioning a package while giving his Ubuntu Presentation last year at
FreeDel...not sure what the name was. Google came up with R and PSPP.
Are there any other?

GNU-R, PSPP, Octave, Gnuplot are statistical
analysis/graphing tools available in the FOSS domain.
Octave is equivalent to matlab, while GNU R is just
like S and S-PLUS.

I have neither used octave nor scilab personally, I so
can not comment on this.

Lets just drop it buddy. My lack of response to his repartee wasn't due

We use both Octave and Scilab at JNU.
Octave is more robust but has a command-line interface and a sharper learning
curve. It interfaces with gnuplot to produce graphics - itself not easy to use
beyond simple ine graphs...:)
Scilab is faster to learn, easier to use, has a GUI interface, very
