[ilugd] Problem: Connecting Reliance Terminal phone

2005-11-23 Thread Sudev Barar
I am trying to use Reliance Terminal phone LG350 to connect to internet.

I have modprobed usbserial and ftdi_sio but when I plug in the USB
connector no /dev/ttyUSB0 or such is created. Messages show that the
connector is recognised as uhci_hcd but no link up takes place. lsusb
reveals the device as UART-SERIAL from Ark Technology.

Google has not revealed anything. Have tried cdc_acm that is used for
connecting Samsung phones nor does safe_serial wrok.

Pointer and help needed urgently.

TIA

Laptop has no serial port :-(

One thing though - check the data settings of your phone. It should be
set to USB Modem if you want to use it like one, or should be set to
one of the available baud rates if you want to use it as a serial
modem. Also change the data settnigs to Modem Only or Modem for
Next to be sure. Failing to do so, might result in the modem not
 being detected by the OS.

Am trying all this but no dice yet, even after powering phone off and on.

One advice - dump Reliance - it's *dead* slow. You'll end up wasting
your money. Go for a decent broadband (like Airtel).

1. Decision not in my hand the site(s) already have LG350R's working.
2. Airtel works excellently but not available at site(s) in question.
3. Reliance Samsung handset works brilliantly almost evrywhere.

Lunatech!

Started the journey with that link in the first place :-)

Now the status is if I do:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~ # modprobe ftdi_sio

After this when I do cat /dev/ttyUSB0 nothing happens - no error nor
prompt back - so I do Ctrl+C as described and continue. The device is
getting recognised as /dev/ttyUSB0, but when ppd is started it comes
back with cannot write error. See log portion below. I did chmod 666
/dev/ttyUS* still no change.

Are you sure /dev/modem is symlinked to /dev/ttyUSB0 ? Try running
minicom on /dev/ttyUSB0 and give appropriate AT commands - it is a
better test than doing a cat on a USB device.

Before creating symlink let the whole thing work on ttyUSB0 and I am
giving that as the modem device and not /dev/modem/modem This is also
reflected in pppd chat from /var/log/messages
