As crystal balls are in short supply, it might help if you specify
the OS. If Linux, what distro, and which version of the distro?

Hi,

For the data backup with tar command
# tar -zcvf filename.tar.gz filename

For untar the tar file
# tar -xvzf filename.tar.gz
