The distinctive features are reddish or tan colour of the internodes,
deltoid stipules, leaves obliquely rounded at base and completely serrulate

Certainly, if the plant is unarmed, *S. erianthum* is the only possibility,
though calyx looks different and not woolly. But, it is to be noted that
older branches of *S. torvum* have very few prickles one may overlook at
times.
