Rakesh ji, Here is one traditional knowledge based solution. Bring Dhol locally known as Mandar http://ecoport.org/ep?SearchType=pdbPdbID=100183and play it nearer to the affected tree. The vibrations created will force the insects to come out and leave the affected tree. Through this way you can get rid from insects without killing it. When Sal Borer attacked in Shorea trees in millions of hactares in Madhya Pradesh in my report based on surveys I suggested this method proposed by the tribals. regards Pankaj Oudhia On Sun, Sep 5, 2010 at 10:53 PM, Rakesh Biswas rakesh7bis...@gmail.comwrote: Thanks Dr Ghosh, We shall try and inject the holes with Neem oil. regards, rakesh On Sun, Sep 5, 2010 at 10:47 PM, Usha Ghosh ghoshu...@gmail.com wrote: Dear Rakesh It seems that the tree is attacked by some borer insect. A lady sitting on a bench asked me if I was a bird-watcher (seeing my camera) so I said ,No, A tree-watcher. Then she said the tree I was taking a long shot of was a Teak tree. I asked if she was a botanist, but she replied that her husband was a forestry officer, so that was how she knew it was a different kind of teak. The close-up shows the figs draped all over the trunk and even on the mud around the trunk, connected by underground twigs. Re: [efloraofindia:46619] For ID 010910 ET
can it be Oenothera biennis? Germanname Nachtkerze? Oenothera glazioviana should have some red color at the bottom of the flower, i think. Nachtkerze (engl. evening star) opens in the evening and moths pollinate the flowers. The oil from the seeds is used against Neurodermitis, also used a lot as Additive in Kosmetikartikels. Roots are supposed to be edible, though i never tried it. Normally grows on sandy places and wasteland. Re: [efloraofindia:46620] To share 020810 a ET
yes the first two seem to be Antirhinum majus. engl. Common Snapdragon, german Löwenmaul. Engl wiki says The common name snapdragon, originates from the flowers reaction to having their throats squeezed, which causes the mouth of the flower to snap open. Antirrhinum majus literally means like a rhino's snout in Ancient Greek. Germans seem to be seeing a Löwenmaul = Lions jaw. I had some very nice coloras in my garden, but have disappeared somehow.
