YES, name is correct... But it becomes a nuisance... a weed that almost can not be controlled once it escapes... we saw that in Florida etc... here in Bengal... I have seen it take over the entire borders and not let anything else thrive SO better to keep it in pots and then really destroy when dead ... not to throw in a heap... This information does not take awy nicety of your photographs though... This is Passiflora for sure but not sure whether is is P. foetida. because the later is known to have a foetid (bad) smell. So one needs to check the smell of the fruits. But the leaves surely looks like P foetida. The hairy thing around the fruit is not calyx but bract. This question was actually for Usha di Now I understood after Gurcharanji's reply. The common name Japanese maple includes at least two botanically named species *Acer japonicum* and *Acer palmatum* which again has 3 recognized subspecies and many cultivars(Wikipedia) - *Acer palmatum* subsp. *palmatum*. Leaves small, 4–7 cm wide, with five or seven lobes and double-serrate margins; seed wings 10–15 mm. Lower altitudes throughout central and southern Japan (not Hokkaido). - *Acer palmatum* subsp. *amoenum* (Carrière) H.Hara. Leaves larger, 6–12 cm wide, with seven or nine lobes and single-serrate margins; seed wings 20–25 mm. Higher altitudes throughout Japan and South Korea. - *Acer palmatum* subsp. *matsumurae* Koidz. Leaves larger, 6–12 cm wide, with seven (rarely five or nine) lobes and double-serrate margins; seed wings 15–25 mm. Passiflora foetida for sure. Another high value medicinal plant. If someone wants to work on this, I can give one idea that this plant to me seems to have some trapping mechanism for insects and hence an insectivorous plant. In the morning you can see some tiny insects stuck to its glandular hairs. Those who want to work may check the chemical constituent of the liquid on the glandular hairs. If it has anything like chitinase then for sure this is insectivorous. Re: [efloraofindia:77456] Re: Climber for ID from Mirle | 17AugAR01
Yes this is *Passiflora foetida*. I never knew this plant is having medicinal values. This climber is quite a weed in rural Tamil nadu, spreading all over the short canopy. Yes Pankaj sir, I read your stomatal study to classify *Passiflora* spp. On Wed, Aug 17, 2011 at 10:43 PM, Balkar Arya balkara...@gmail.com wrote: Yes Pankaj ji I am trying in Delhi and Chandigarh.
