[efloraofindia:308491] Re: Investigation : Different types of images for testing.

2018-10-22 Thread Naraina Damle
Hello,

My self tried on different Browsers/ devices

Appears to be Browser specific problem.

IT IS DEFINITELY NOT A SPEED ISSUE.

1. Chrome on windows 10 : has problem
2. Mozilla on windows 10 : has problem
3. Microsoft Edge on Windows 10 : Does Not have problem

4. Safari on Iphone : Does not have problem
5. IE on windows phone : Does not have problem

Can someone else also check the Forum on Chrome and Mozilla.

It is strange that a Google product has problems with Chrome and works with
Edge :)

2018-10-22 Thread Naraina Damle
I can see images in the email received by me

But I can not see images on the FORUM.

I have created a separate topic for investigation with different types of
image files and posted my remarks against that.

Can some people have a look at that with different devices and browsers.

2018-10-22 Thread Naraina Damle
Hello,

It seems to be a GOOGLE problem.

Nothing particular to this group as I observe exactly same behaviour on
another group with same images.

This is my observation after posting different types of images.

Image posted

BMP, PNG, TIF, JPG, GIF, PDF.

1. I can see a small blue page thumbnail for PDF. All other thumbnails are
empty.

2. I can view PDF and TIF But all other types give 404 error.

My feeling. GOOGLE has some (temporary) issue with certain file types. Let
me attach an excel file

[efloraofindia:308473] Re: Basics of taxonomy

2018-10-22 Thread Mahadeswara
I fully agree with Garg ji. Nevertheless, in a nutshell, one has to check
all the characters of a plant like vegetative as well as floral characters
in detail including , fruits & seeds . Best thing is to refer to a
taxonomy book prescribed for BSc students initially to get an idea of what
is taxonomy and how to classify plant families etc.

2018-10-22 Thread Dr Pankaj Kumar
Start with Textbook of Practical Botany 2 for Angiosperms. Should be a
under 200 Rs book.
If you find interesting then get A C Dutta, Botany for Degree Students,
around 400 Rs.
If not happy with them, then go take tution from our respected Gurcharan
sir :)
Best of luck.

I think a very difficult question. I could no where find that answer as lot
of features are overlapping or can not be seen with naked eyes. I think it
is still a big question even for experts to pinpoint a family in many cases.

2018-10-22 Thread Ushadi Micromini
tell us the information we need
so we can help you
there are rules
you must follow them
guideles for submitting cases is on this page, that Gargji sent to you
when he welcomed you

yet i will tell you again, please follow
url is https://sites.google.com/site/efloraofindia/posting-guidelines
*Brief Posting Guidelines*

   1. Maximum 3 posts per day for Identification requests / confirmations -
with one plant per mail (with preferably three or more pictures from
different angles), with different subject lines. For posting to the group,
   e-mail to indiantreepix@googlegroups.com
   2. Please follow the specified format for Identification requests/
confirmations. Try to furnish the information yourself (if possible)
or from Efloraofindia site/ Wikipedia stating its links or provide suitable
   links etc.
   3. No restriction of format & number on postings for posting of
   identified plants.
   4. Mention the date & place (at least upto state level) of the pictures
   posted.
   5. Each attachment preferably be of around 150 KB or less (with minimum
size of 800 by 600 pixels or more)
   6. Different flowers / plants etc. to be posted in a separate mail.
   7. All members are requested to either ‘Reply’, 'Reply to all' or
‘Forward’ at the bottom of the mail.
   8. Numbering for Id requests in subject line: DDMMYY + Initials + Sl.No.
(if more than one on same day).

--

*Detailed Posting Guidelines*

1. *Maximum 3 posts per day for Identification requests/ confirmations-
with one plant per mail *(with preferably three or more pictures from
different angles along with Close-ups)*, with different subject lines* only
are allowed. Members uploading the photographs for ID should ensure that
all photographs belong to the same plant. *Pl. follow the following format
(without any spacing between the lines for easy incorporation in the
website) for Identification requests/ confirmations:*

Date/Time-

Location- Place, Altitude, GPS-

Habitat- Garden/ Urban/ Wild/ Type-

Plant Habit- Tree/ Shrub/ Climber/ Herb-

Height/Length-

Leaves Type/ Shape/ Size-

Inflorescence Type/ Size-

Flowers Size/ Colour/ Calyx/ Bracts-

Fruits Type/ Shape/ Size Seeds-

Other Information like Fragrance, Pollinator, Uses etc.-

*Pl. copy it & keep it on desktop in a Word document so that you can copy &
paste it **& fill in the information (& provide pictures for these) to the
extent possible while requesting for Id. This is compulsory for Id
requests.*

2. *No restriction of format & number on postings for posting of identified
plants.*
3. Please post pictures as attachments, discuss the subjects etc. relating
to Indian Flora, which is the main focus of this group. This is done by
sending an e-mail to indiantreepix@googlegroups.com. One can add attachment
while composing the mail. *Photographs of well developed leaves, flowers,
fruits, bark/ stem, full view of the plant etc. & that too from different
angles including front, side & rear views should be posted for correct
identification of plants.* Avoid posting anything which violates copyrights
of others. *Only individual members will be responsible & not the group for
any copyright violations.* Try to furnish the inf. yourself (if possible)
or from Efloraofindia site by searching for the required species' page (
https://sites.google.com/site/efloraofindia/) or from Wikipedia stating its
link or provide suitable other links etc.

4.* Mention the date & place (at least upto state level) *of the pictures
posted. It is useful to add your name and location. Please try to identify
yourself while posting. Mistakes are encouraged over stating nothing, for
better learning/ understanding. No one is infallible.

5*. Each attachment preferably be of around 150 KB or less (with minimum
size of 800 by 600 pixels or more).* But one can have many attachments to
illustrate different aspects of a tree/plant. But one has to be cautious
not to post unnecessary pictures as far as possible. One has to
re-size one's pictures to say 800 by 600 pixels or more at 72 DPI with
quality settings of say 5 to 10 to bring it around 150 KB in Photoshop as
per group guidelines for posting. Links are to be avoided as far as
possible as attachments are allowed.
*To re-size in Microsoft Office Picture Manager*, which is available in
most Window based computers: Open your picture in Microsoft Office Picture
Manager. Click on 'Picture' in the top at Menu Bar & Select 'Resize' under
it & select 800 by 600 pixels or more, Click on OK. Select File--> Save as,
choose a file name & click on save button. It is much reduced in size. *Similar
procedure can be followed in other picture processing software.*
*To re-size all pictures in a folder at a time*: Keep a copy of the folder
(of which all pictures are to be re-sized) under My pictures folder. Open
Microsoft Office Picture Manager. Select the desired folder from the left
side Pan. Select all the pictures to be re-sized in the main

Thanks Ushadi for suggestions.

Yes habitat pictures are important,I always try to take habitat pictures
whenever possible, however this time I was more focused on finding some balsam
and because of lack of time I couldn't manage to get its habitat pictures.

But don't worry i will surely share its habitat images by next year August.

Best regards
