Re: [efloraofindia:309659] Re: Acacia leucophloea FOR VALIDATION :: Jodhpur :: 24 OCT 18

2018-11-03 Thread Dinesh Valke
Thank you Tapas ji and Mahadeswara ji for validating.
Tapas ji, you must be correct about introduced species - this tree is
planted in premises of Rajasthan Forest Department's tourist post at Guda
Bishnoiyan ... an important lake where migratory birds make a stopover.
Mahadeswara ji, thank you for the bark characteristics; I do not know why -
I had the feeling that all of trunk, branches of *A. leucophloea* are of
silver grey.

I will correct my notes in flickr to very simply Acacia sp. - because at
present I do not have photos with required aspects.
Here is one cropped version, if at all it gives any hint to Tapas ji ...

Re: [efloraofindia:309655] Dalbergia sissoo :: Jodhpur :: 24 OCT 18

2018-11-03 Thread Ushadi Micromini
Tapasda, i have to disagree on this one issue here, sorry, really soory
khama korben
everything does not have to be exported to make money or a livelihood
India now has a burgeoning upwardly mobile middle class and
working c;lass that will become middle class in next decade or so,
there is a great deal need for of locally available good and better quality
wood furniture in this country.

govt of india may have done something right for a change in a long time.
though i think import ban in 50 60 70 and part of 80s was a very good idea
did not swell china's coffers with our money,
growing up then, iknow i wished we had nice european cloth, but then my
taught us and the indian museum on
chowringhee showed us how most of what we thought as european was really
indian cloth, printed there and imported.
and the perfumes, basic material sources with a few exception were from the
indian subcontinent or asia.
that cured me of the hankering n my teens.
i am content to use locally grown locally made stuff for the most part. but
i do live in modern era, cant avaoid imports
yet ...
locally grown locally manufactured, in whatever country is a good thing for
economy and MORALE of the people.

You must have noticed that we have become dependent on imports for even
our puja pandal lights
the other day i saw even Vishnu murti by the thousands made in china
along with ganesha laxmi shiv hanuman and most things for home puja
and the vendors said we donot like to work so hard and cheap as the
chinese!!!
another ready made embroidered motif seller said the same thing five days
apart.
bojo tthela!!!
i feel its a shame.
india is not only loosing foreign exchange, but also its hard working
classes's working ethics.
and we say we dont have industries.
we have microindustries, they need raw materials, like wood.

This is not *Acacia leucophloea *as the heads are in axillary fascicles.
We need close up of the leaves and leaflets and need to know about the
pubescence, if any in additions to the fruiting photographs. This is
somewhat comparable to *Acacia tortilis *(now *Vachellia tortilis*) but I
do not see the elongated spines anywhere. Could this be an introduced
species?

Dear friends,

this bush has leaves, the branching is less tangled, importantly, *the
inflorescence is branched*, and one of flower seen is clearly *Heliotropium*.

Dear friends,
I do not know about this plant, not at all sure whether it is *Heliotropium

in Alka ji's post in eFI

Her flickr album of Jaisalmer Jodhpur

is also serving me as good and quick reference (many thanks Alka ji).
This plant, or maybe there are several, look to me like a huge bundle of
wire. I was not able to see any leaves. Please help with ID.

Re: [efloraofindia:309604] Heart shaped lobbed leave Tree Id at SGNP

2018-11-03 Thread Sharmila Punde
Many Thanks Dinesh Ji !

Leaf shape, underside and upperside of leaf, vein's pinkish colour, leaf
margin, phyllotaxy matches.
Young leaf colour, and leaves woolyness is bit different, but with respect
to variation depending on climate, season and habitat the overall species
is matching.

Not much aware of but the woolyness and color of young leaves can be
different depending on insect's availability as trees are always aware that
rainy season
have more insects than in march, april. Please comment. It is just like
Sita Ashok has prominent nectar glands on leaves in forest than in
cultivated area.

Sorry to mention that new google interface keep shooting mail before
validating due to some active key pressed which am not aware of. It
happened two three times.
The " *Leaf Margin*: Entire, Bit wavy, *Scalloped*" should have been *"Leaf
Margin*: Bit wavy, *Scalloped".*
And Subject line should have been* "Heart shaped leave Tree Id at SGNP".*
Sorry, too many mosquitos were around when mailed yesterday so could not
correct at the same time.

Thank you very much!
Sharmila

Dear friends,
Had not come across such extra long (about 1½ ft) inflorescence of
*Amaranthus*; I hope I am not mistaking the genus. Please help validate the

*Aerva javanica* (Burm.f.) Juss. ex Schult.
Dear friends,
I glanced through eFI, FoI and few pages on internet. Most of the pictures
illustrate plant with bushy habit (that is, with multiple branching from
base). The posted plant however is a stand-alone erect plant, about a metre
height, does not look like it is going to grow bushy. Perhaps attributed to
urban environment versus sandy. Please validate the ID.
