Fwd: [efloraofindia:319196] Names of Plants in India :: Aerva javanica (Burm.f.) Juss. ex Schult.

2019-04-03 Thread J.M. Garg
After perusing comparative images at Aerva

and
further details, I think inflorescence is more closer to images at *Aerva
sanguinolenta* (L.) Blume
.

*Flora of Pakistan*

says
about leaves as below:
Leaves broadly to narrowly ellipitic or elliptic-lanceolate or
elliptic-ovate, cuneate to attenuate at the base, acute to acuminate at the
apex, densely whitish-canescent on both surfaces (rarely green and only
thinly hairy), those of the main stem below the inflorescence c. 1.5-18 x
0.8-6 cm, petiole up to 2 cm long; branch and inflorescence leaves
gradually reducing.
Pl. check.

so it either caused that decay by invading it
or it only is an opportunistic fungus
that attacks decaying/damaged wood
wonder if the dying diseased wood be saved by
shaving off the dead/decay area and treating with antifungal
so the rest of the mature tree goes on to live

unlike the subterranean fungal colonies that help trees talk to each other
these i suspect are saprophytes,
attacking damaged wood

i wonder if there is a protocol for treating trees to save them

 Thanks Nidhan Singh Sir,

I collected this as it is a wood rooting fungi and i need to collect
them for my Forest Pathology course last year.

Moreover if i will not collect it, i am almost sure it will soon get
deteriorated in a couple of year either by weathering or by termite attack
as it had already started decomposing at top.

Unlike plants these fungi have mycelium spread over host plant, a few
more new fruiting bodies will grow on it

Re: [efloraofindia:319190] Fomes fomentarius submission

2019-04-03 Thread Ushadi Micromini
Yes but not everybody wakes up in high school and says i will study forestry
you must have had a spark of insight or
interest in this science
and ambition to do something different

I was watching a TED talk yesterday in between helping my relative with the
stroke
it was this one
https://www.ted.com/talks/mike_degruy_hooked_by_octopus?language=en
the spark to study octopus started when he was young

i think everybody has them
whether they know it as an aha moment or not
science is a difficult career esp ecology, botany
microbiology, cell biology, forestry, whales conservation
and now oceanography and saving it from plastics
etc etc

otherwise why would you pursue those nasty spore bearing mushrooms
not all are benevolent
no matter how much the Japanese herbalists tell us that Reishi mushrooms
are life saver
helping us fight against cancers

anyway
good luck
and keep educating us about botany and mycology

nishinde pata is almost gone from the neighbouring fallow and country areas
and i did not find it , even upon request from two major southern 24
parganas vegetable markets were villagers come and sell their greens

its gone from around here
too bad

conserve by saving seeds where you find them
they stay on the twigs , if dry, in bottles for years
just collect twigs with seeds on, after they turn brown on the plant

study its pore tubes arrangement.

About getting the spore print its comparitively(to Agaricales) tougher in these

we can wrap the mature fruiting body with wet paper overnight to get better

Re: [efloraofindia:319163] Phellinus species submission

2019-04-03 Thread ashutoshsharma11sn
Thanks Nidhan Singh Sir,

I collected this as it is a wood rooting fungi and i need to collect them for
my Forest Pathology course last year.

Moreover if i will not collect it, i am almost sure it will soon get
deteriorated in a couple of year either by weathering or by termite attack as
it had already started decomposing at top.

Unlike plants these fungi have mycelium spread over host plant, a few more new
fruiting bodies will grow on it
