Thank you, Mr Garg. But a botantist of Panjab Univ, Chandigarh, Prof Amrik S. Ahluwalia, who has been working on Sukhna lake's weeds, has identified it as Nelumbo lutea (commonly known as American lotus). There are ways in which exotic species can enter India, and this seems the case here, too.
