and placed in the attic back into the main trunck. I have tried just
coping the files from the attic back to the original location but
WinCVS still cannot see them.

Have you tried pulling a new workspace and seeing if
WinCVS can see them. The CVS/Entries file is probably
confused now( you can also hand hack them to make them
correct now. )
