Unable to login to cvs server

Hi, I am unable to login to the cvs server. I just initialized a new repository and modified the /etc/services and /etc/inted.conf files. I added a new passwd file to the dir CVSROOT and used the perl script provided with the book "Open Souce dev with CVS".
