My first guess whas that there was a old/new IP conflict when
using VPN but that's out of the question.

Are you sure you restarted xinetd? It usually restarts with SIGUSR2,
but check the man page for your specific version.
If xinetd isn't opening the port, it should print or log an error
message when it restarts--watch for that.

strange problems! For example a user that has a project checkedout that works,
ie cvs commands work, (cvs update, cvs commit) but doing a cvs checkout for a
