Virtual users doesn't matter - in essence, all cyrus-imapd users are virtual. To check the various autocreate features that are available to you, see... ls -l /usr/share/doc/cyrus-imapd-2.2.12/README.auto* FWIW, I actually don't use the RHEL or CentOS distribution rpms but build from Simon's

I would really not like people to be able to ssh into the cyrus account. Look into how your OS restricts logins. No doubt pam or whatever can be configured to specifically deny non-localhost logins to that account. Most handle root this way too. Cyrus Home Page:
