In practice this allows mailbox migrations with near zero downtimes for users.

allow ZFS to use it. Most other things rely on the hardware and the cyrus setup

SNI just makes sense if each client provides SNI too and this is afaik
not the case for - compared to i.e. http - many mail clients.
