Re: [Interest] [Android-development] Text Selection Handles Qt 5.8 QQC2 - some workarounds

2017-08-10 Thread Robert Iakobashvili
Good, voted for the issues you have mentioned.

Yes, we need API:

1. to hide/show selection handles and cursor;
2. to customize their size, color, style etc.

Kind regards,
Robert

Re: [Interest] [Android-development] Text Selection Handles Qt 5.8 QQC2 - some workarounds

2017-08-10 Thread Bernhard B
Hi Robert,

thanks, voted for the issue!

By the way, there are some more tickets regarding the selection/cursor
handles. e.q QTBUG-58700 and QTBUG-57031.

Unfortunately there seems to be no API to manually hide/show the
selection/cursor handles. Otherwise it would be possible to add some fixes
to the enduser application to fix some issues there in the meantime.

So I hope that one of the Android maintainers finds some time to tackle
some of the issues. I would really appreciate that a LOT and it would for
sure also result in more awesome showcase applications (as I said, in my
experience most of the users start with a TextArea and just a few basic
components).

Hi Bernhard,
Absolutely agree. Please, vote for the issue to be fixed. Thanks.

There's a clear business case coming for QWidgets at Android:

Chromebooks get Android apps and there Desktop like apps
based on Widgets are looking really really good.

Take care!

Re: [Interest] [Android-development] Text Selection Handles Qt 5.8 QQC2 - some workarounds

2017-08-10 Thread Bernhard B
I really hope there will be some changes regarding the TextSelection handle
implementation on Android for the upcoming Qt 5.9.x releases, as there are
a few issues with them.

In my eyes having a TextArea with working selection handles is such a basic
feature that should work flawlessly with every framework. Unfortunately Qt
is lacking here a bit :/

I am trying really hard to convince people to give Qt for mobile app
development a try. Usually they fall in love with QML very quickly, but
it's really hard to make them stick with Qt when such essential things
aren't working properly. Typically adding a TextField/TextArea and a few
buttons is the first thing that people are trying out.

I really hope that there will be changes in the upcoming Qt 5.9 patch
release. I am really glad that the selection handle stuff was integrated
with Qt 5.8 - that was really awesome and added a big missing piece. But
please don't make the mistake and leave it like this.

Hi Robert,

from discussion with J-P I learned that selectByMouse is in conflict
with Flickable and scrolling multi line TextArea and should not be set
on touch device with QQC2.

Dear Ekke,

My guess that making

selectByMouse: true

is a general recommendation and for Widgets as well.

There are some recommendations on net as for getting rid from
handles by placing a null image, but hopefully the issues will be fixed
somewhere in Qt-5.9.1

Thanks once more.

Dear Ekke,
Thank you very much.

Yes, the selection handles are too buggy on Android at Qt-5.8.

Do you have recommendations for widgets?

Do you know how to get rid from the handles?

This is a show stopper for me not to move up from 5.7.
