Is such filtering specific to JSON? Does it have some use out of JSON-context?
Maybe it would be better to provide a set of functions for encoding
characters into '\u'-entities? (similiar to htmlentities,
htmlspecialchars)
because if we speak of 'theoretical' problem, we might end
reimplementing
However, a ~couple months ago IBM gave permission to remove this
copyright (because the authors are listed as general contributors,
thus representing IBM) although we've not yet implemented this
removal. We did [temporary] remove it about six months ago but...

I should also mention that I haven't done anything with C in probably 5
or 6 years, but if you're willing to help me out, I'll see what I can do :)
