A much different experience for me in Victoria compared to Dennis although I
did listen over an hour later between 12:57 and 13:57. There was a total lack
of Asians this morning. Instead, I heard a number of DU stations, especially
New Zealand including some nice IDs (of course, I didn't have

Isn't that the truth, Bill. Notice, however, that my loggings were later than
most others (slept in a bit, I guess :-) ). The A/K indices
Dennis, is that a new frequency for North Korea on 1056?

New month, different IBOC rant. This one is just a simple question:
Night AM allocations are calculated by a study. This study collects all the
signals aimed at a location, runs it through a formula, and comes up with a
signal strength called the Night Interference Free (NIF) contour. It's a
Craig,
Very good points. WYSL 1040 will have to deal with IBOC on both sides
(1030+1050). The FCC probably will be forced into adopting new rules
regarding the side channel hash. But the courts will have the last say I
would guess. We will soon know.

Craig,
Just a caution on this. Years ago, when I wanted to add some weight to a
NRD-525 tuning knob, I poured this sort of 2-part resin into the hollow
space on the back of the knob. The heat of the chemical reaction (curing)
warped the plastic knob severely. I ended up having a machinist
Greetings,
I thought I would pass on the latest on the coax issue. After I replaced
the matching transformer boxes with F Fittings, and changed two over to
metal boxes, It was quite an improvement. I think getting rid of the
pigtails (banana plugs) on the end of the coax made the biggest
Glen Clark made several such studies, including some nice color maps of all
the stations on a particular channel and how their NIF's would change.
Of course it made no difference.

I have spoken to someone at the station and have
preliminay news many of us won't appreciate. They have
moved to FM 104.7 - i know, as I've logged it. But
they plan to stay on AM for at least a few more months
because the FM isn't reaching the full of their target
audience. It's not terribly
Dennis, I was wondering about the frequency. I think you said it was 1056.
I have been following this station since 1975 when I first heard it
while I was living in Korea. There were on 1050 then, if memory serves
me. The transmitter is on the West Coast of North Korea in Haeju. The

why? Hard to believe China would be involved in the N/S Korea radio war on the
side of S Korea, as Firedrake has only been used so far against

This one hasn't ever been heard at home by me, Dennis,
Bill,
Thanks for telling the history of this station pretending to be from the
Republic of Korea. If conditions this season are as good as expected, maybe
you might get some audio from 1053. There are 4 clandestine stations that
broadcast to DPR Korea. I saw a documentary awhile back
Nick,
I could be hearing JOAR and not the PDR Korea station. When the signal is

There was talk of this broadcast leaving the air a few years ago. As I
recall, it had to do with some agreement or treaty between North and
South Korea. There may have been a date established for these (and
possibly other) broadcasts to end, but for whatever reason it never
happened.

Dennis, This is from the 1980's when I was visiting Korea. The South
Koreans jam most of the MW stations from the North, but not the SW
stations in the Seoul Area. I was able to record some of the NK stuff
on MW outside of Seoul however.

For those of you that have not heard this station on
