Nigel,
Ah ha, that is the one off frequency. I tried to ID it last night, but
too much other stuff on the channel.
Thanks for the info. I'll keep trying.

According to the DM780 waterfall in Ham Radio Deluxe, they are off frequency
a bit on 1559.93. This is causing a SAH on the frequency. I switched between
USB and LSB on the Drake R8, but couldn't hear the USB component of their
signal. Strange!

YES! In the 1970s I remember 1430 was KARM, one of the many country music
stations in the central valley. KMAK 1340 was also a major CW player in Fresno
(Then) They were once owned by Mc Mahans Furniture company...Then there was
KEAP 980. One of the really charming things about that station
I used to hear the KARM-FM signal in Tracy on rare occasions. I almost
sprained my ears IDing them. They have a puny signal but the frequency was
empty with the exception of them so I could crank that puppy up and not have
to worry about anything else launching speaker cones in a ballistic
I haven't been reporting my TP listening for a few days as work had me
out of town, and yesterday I slept in. Well, luckily I didn't do that
today, as the last day of February turned out to be one of the most
interesting of the month Lots of signals in the upper band, though the
majority
Aha, thanks Chris,
I have DM780 and HRD on my computer and was wondering if it could be used for
MW DXing.
Thanks for the tip...

Hi Joe,
I usually tune below a major frequency by 50Hz in USB mode and watch the
carrier show up on the scale at 500. If there are any carriers off frequency
you can see them even if you can't hear them. Same with trans-oceanic
splits. And, HRD is a free download. :)

Are they talk? I've heard them here regularly over the last few weeks.

Yes they are SNR and their main lobe is SE right into the Gulf. Jan. 20
or 21 is when they upped nighttime pwr to 15kw but obviously that is
not enough for them! 73 Todd in Woodbury, MN

Paul, I would be very curious to see if they respond to you or if they
even care. They are most likely on day pattern to gain listeners and
possibly get their loyalty and listen to them streaming. At any rate
they are repeat offenders and will probably continue to do so
intermittantly in the

Checking 1560, I hear KGOW, BUT they are weak and about eaqual to WQEW.
Not over powering the frequency.

1420 KSTN Stockton, CA noticed off the air on 02/24 and
they are still off this evening 02/28. XEXX and KITI are the

Albert,
According to sources KSTN is gone as they could not sell the station.
Who knows when or if it will return. 1380 Salinas never did, as well as
1030-Folsom, etc. Money is tight in the brodcasting business. Enjoy the
open channel. You are getting my powerhouse 65 miles to the NE, KITI.
73,
I remember this one puzzling everybody last summer. Didn't somebody finally
nail it down as WDKD in Kingstree, SC?
