Thanks Dennis for passing this along. Too bad. I remember meeting the
orig owner back in the 80s when he stopped by KSWB. He said he was going
to put KBBM onthe air in Waldport. Bob I wondered if there was enough
advertising to support a station there as I think Waldport had like 1400
people then
Hi Guys:
Woke up at 0300 am with no where to go! So I did some more
listening on 1520 Khz. WWKB is virtually NON EXISTENT on the frequency
this morning. I heard a station playing COUNTRY Music and assumed I was
hearing WMLM from St. Louis, MICHIGAN as per my earlier Logging last
The newspaper is slightly incorrect, the FCC allows licenses up to one year
(not six months) to be silent before they face possible license revocation.
The article mentions they routinely grant a second 6 month window.. which
may be true but they don't go after a license to delet eit after only 6
Hi Paul,
Hope that I have not started a firestorm.
Youth maybe or maybe not and the same goes for equipment - I have seen
shunning for no apparent reason. Again not by many - I have
productive conversations with about 98% of DX'ers but it is odd when you
don't get a reply over several time
I'm copying this comment to my good friend Greg Putrich...who may wish to
weigh in from the younger side :-))

Again, sorry for the firestorm!
Speaking of age (and I know that I have not went through all of the
digests yet)BUT how do we perpetuate the hobby? Terrestrial radio is
not dead (yet). DX'ing is still a enjoyable hobby and I'm sure that
there are some who dabble in it at a young age who do not

Hi DaveSorry that you missed hearing WKVI...I posted the

My thought process trailed off a bit:
When I said: when 1. You have an unID that someone can actually help
you with (if you are a
domestic DX'er you probably would not expect a reply

Thanks for the update, Rob.
Going off topic, who is the list moderator? I have tried to add a
second email address so I could get updates like Rob's on my smartphone
in addition to the work Blackberry type equipment.
Thanks and 73,

I have to agree we are probably the last generation
of MW DXers. I hope I'm wrong. But how can the
younger generation listen to radio or anything else
with a cellphone glued to their ear?
I had a young man ask me what I was reading on my
Kindle. I told him it was book about how
Terrestrial radio is not relevant to most younger people because they can get
whatever content they are after via a mobile phone or a PC or a Blackberry.
There are more than ample computer/phone games to keep people busy if they like
competition.
But, as has already been noted by myself and
You're right, Russ. Even at my age (59), as one who cut his DX teeth and
listening habits in the 60s, I have to admit that unless I am specifically
listening for DX, I very rarely listen to terrestrial radio anymore,
especially AM. I just get way too frustrated with the noise (IBOC hash,

I guess I am just odd and different.. I grew up listening to an FM Oldies
station in New England but I've come to appreciate the oddness and
uniqueness of raido, usually foud on AM.

The problem is if they go ahead and dismantle the station, it probably

Keep it up with the Kindle and we may be the last generation to turn a page in
a book! My Wife is a graphic designer for The University of Georgia Press, as
well as several other presses around the country, and that thought of books
disappearing makes her just a bit sad.

I was wrong, the station owner told me it wasnt dismantled recently by
them.. it wa sin pieces when they bought it.. they have sold the station.
KORC 92.7 and KBHN 1230 Burns, OR is doing very well for them.

Sadly, AM radio is one of the worst places to try and get current local

To add to the annoyance of listening to AM radio is the
excessive processing some stations use. Can either of you
hear WHP 580? Their processing is so extreme that I have to
turn the volume way down and even then it gets fatiguing to
listen.

Hi guys,
I have a general question about Beverage antennas. Normally I string out 350'
in fall and reel it in before lightning season in Nor VA that starts soon. Does
anyone leave it up all year? If so what extra lightning protection does one
employ? Thanks. George Santulli Northern VA

If it's completely disconnected from the receivers, that's the main thing.
Secondly, which some might consider overkill, would be to ground the lead-in
directly to a ground rod.

Hello To All,
We have finally moved to our new location at Bristol's Hope, Newfoundland which
is located about 70 miles by highway Northwest from St. John's. The home

Got any room for antenna stretching around your place? A beverage would be an
impressive addition to your set up.
Nice that you don't have to climb a mountain to DX now!

My beverage (1500' going East) is up permanantly. I have had it since
1982. Lightening has never hit it here in the NW OR, but lightening
strikes are rare. But when there is t storm activity, I either ground it
of disconnect it anyway. It is fed by RG6 through a matching
transformer.

Paul,
Then they have sold the station. Good, it may return then. They had a
pretty decent NOS format at one time. They even did their own.
