The year-end drought continues today, though the upper band was a bit
better. Heard traces of audio from VOA Thailand on 1575, and a decent
carrier from Korea on 1566. The low end of the dial was very poor,
with nothing near audio from the Japanese regulars. 774 was about the
only one
It was the worst morning that I can remember. No MW audio only a poor het on
738, 891, 1548. Usually there are at least weak hets on many channels. Also
normally from about 1100 kHz up the N/S wire gets the best signals, but not
today. E/W was best everywhere, indicating odd conditions going on

Interestingly, the topband list (160m amateur radio operators) has
recent reports of good long haul (including long path) DX.
Most nights there are very weak MW TA carriers here in western
Canada, which indicate low geomagnetic activity, but they never
develop. Guess our frequencies are too

Hi, Steve (and everyone at the IRCA)! My first time with email access
since the 22nd. I'm way up north at my DX cottage. I agree today fizzled
out badly. The lower half of the band was actually quite good, with the
NHK1 on 531 really coming in well, compared to usual. Above somewhere
between
Strange, Nigel. My experience was the opposite this morning, with the low
band quite good, and the high band, poor! ...Walt in Masset, BC

I listened for a while before the kids were up for Christmas breakfast and
gifts, Nick. I don't have my notes with me (in town), as I left them at
the cottage. As usual, things are usually hopping out here TP wise. I'll
have to report in later. 73,Walt

Hi folks!
Noted 1700 KKLF Sherman TX on top and dominant over Des Moines @ 1333 local

Also noted 1640 KFXY Enid, OK all alone from 1335 and with a great signal.
Later at the start of SSS, noticed 1610 1690 Toronto dominant over others.

Will give the WKVQ test tonight a try at 11:00 P.M. PST. One Spanish
station from Seattle area KXPA and they are heard at times, but most of
the time the channel is vacant. With the Palstar tuner set on 1540 KFBK
1530 is S-9+60 db leaving IBOC hash on 1540. Have four outdoor antennas
to use
Dennis,
I heard the last WKVQ test here. I used the lower sideband closer to
KFBK to get rid of their IBOC hash. As I remember, the morse code came
through rather nicely.

I'll give it a shot too but with KXEL with 5 times the power at 1/4 the
distance only 17* apart I guess I'll find out if this loop really works.
At least I can record it if I fall asleep.
Thanks to all involved.
