Hello All,
During the recent Rockwork 4 DXpedition a single 15" FSL antenna was constantly
tuned to 531 kHz during sunrise DU openings-- and it certainly came up with a
lot of Australian signals. Can anybody provide assistance or ID clues from the
following 531 recordings?

This goes back to the question of a matching transformer. If you use one at
the antenna, then using the DXE preamp should be fine. That's what we've
used at LBI.

I also suggest to just tune Rt by live listening. Find several stations east of
you and across the band and write down signal levels. Manually adjust Rt and
make comparisons. Hopefully you can find a good compromise value for Rt across
the band. Or perhaps it will be different enough for low and

Well be streaming eventually, not right away but we will soon.

I should have provided more details. I'm using a commercially made 16:1
transformer to feed the antenna at one corner. The other end has a 900
ohm non-reactive, fixed termination, also commercially made. Feeding the
antenna with 75 ohm RG-6 coax. I also have a variable termination that
is 900 o

Congratulations, sounds like a great opportunity. Best of luck, let us know how
the DX is, and if the station streams, how we can listen. Earl Higgins

But that's a 50 Ohm preamp and not really well suited for a 1000 Ohm antenna
like a flag-superloop-delta.

Depends on how good your coax is. If there's a lot of pickup in the coax, it's
best to amplify at the antenna so you are just amplifying the desired signal.
If the amp is inside the house, it amplifies both desired signal and coax
pickup.
I've not had a problem with indoor preamps but I went to
Les,
You make no mention of a feed point transformer, I trust you are using one?
You're also using 75 ohm coax rather than 50 ohm?!
I would very highly recommend
http://www.loop-antennas.com/Components/FLG100LN-2 which not only adds useful
amplification which you will want for the low end, but
Less, I have DX Engineering preamp and I have tested it at the antenna and
inside and I found no difference so my preamp will stay in the house.

I don't see any real benefit to mounting the preamp at the antenna. We've
had good success running them just inside
the building on the LBI DXpeditions from a variety of broadband loops.
Tuning is done by varying the resistance, either via substitution or a
variable resistor. Mostly that's by ear
