Another mixture of Asia, Australia and New Zealand; Aussie and NZ came a little later generally but not always, while some of the Asians held on until after 1300UT pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least briefly): not quite Reasonable audio at

No doubt a lot of the noise was directly radiating into your wire. In that case, a choke is just a paperweight. Chuck From: IRCA on behalf of Steve Ratzlaff Sent: Monday, August 22, 2016 7:59 PM To:

Hi Colin, Yes, I thought of a CM choke as well, and tried one (with plenty of inductance to work well down at LF)--no discernible change in the AC hum! But the longwire is all down, supports removed, wire rolled up, so I don't ever plan to try that failed experiment again. :) 73, Steve

Then for sure you need to be lots further away from // powerlines. Here in IL/WI there are many deer. I've made a deal with them. They don't chew my wires and cables and I don't chew on venison meat. 73 and good luck..KAZ On Mon, Aug 22, 2016 at 2:53 PM, Steve Ratzlaff

I'd expect that it might be possible to get Nibi-Nibi on that Array! 73 KAZ On Mon, Aug 22, 2016 at 9:08 AM, Mark Durenberger wrote: > The really FUN DX will come from the Square Kilometer Array...we'll chat > about THAT at the convention. > > > Regards, > > Mark

Hi KAZ, The longwire was elevated 10' the whole distance. Critters chew up anything on the ground that catches their fancy, here in the desert (assumed to be packrats), so I can't leave any wire or cable lying on the ground if I want it to last more than a day or two.:) 73, Steve On

Maybe add a common-mode choke to that set up. Colin Newell - CoffeeCrew.com - VA7WWV - Victoria - BC > On Aug 22, 2016, at 12:37 PM, Steve Ratzlaff wrote: > > I listen most mornings with the new 140' W DKAZ but conditions have been poor > lately; I don't report hets

Steve, Was that wire directly on the desert ground or was it elevated? Either way, I'd want to be more that 30-40 ft away from powerlines. Perhaps you'd pick up less noise if on the ground directly? 73 KAZ On Mon, Aug 22, 2016 at 2:37 PM, Steve Ratzlaff wrote: > I

I listen most mornings with the new 140' W DKAZ but conditions have been poor lately; I don't report hets or faint traces of audio. This morning was a little better. I strung a 1100' E/W longwire last week but found it picked up high levels of AC noise from a parallel powerline some short
