It's also a question of the time of the day and how north the observed
K-index is measured. Here Tromsö K-index described the band very well:
during the day Asia was heard quite well, while at night Americas
reception was almost nil:

This is the interesting aspect of our hobby. It doesn't always matter what
the A/K indices are up to. There are other factors at play. Please
explain why conditions were exceptional a couple of days ago, followed by a
poor day yesterday, and then superb conditions again today. The A/K
indices,

I tuned in around 1515 and was blown away at how strong the signals on my
"formerly North" and now "South" flag
and it was abundantly clear how much more signal I would have had if the
FLAG was still active as a "Northerly..."
Very impressive levels on many channels...
And good to see that
It was a wacky and wild morning as Asian signals which had been in hibernation
for most of the month suddenly came out in full force, starting around 1200
UTC. After having made the mistake of checking the band at that time I ended up
in the cold back yard for over three hours (although it

Wow, very impressive, folks! I'm finding that my north directed antenna
is the preferable antenna. Stronger than my west oriented antenna. Up and
down the band! 73, Walt

Still hopping at 1445UT Gary. 657 competitive with 650/660; almost

Nick,
The band has been absolutely wild since about 1200 UTC (I've been DXing the
whole time). Japanese fighting it out with BEL2 on 738, 1044-CRI sounding like
a Japanese big gun, 657-Pyongyang sounding like Galena, etc. Of course now with
some signs of daylight the signals are tapering off,

1400UT has been a dead time for TP signals the last little while, but
things are hopping this morning; whether it will keep going who

unusual this year. Nothing like a couple of K=4 to get things going I guess.

Have been traveling and just now catching up on emails. Due to severe brain
fade, I supplied Phil with the wrong date for our next lunch get together. It
is December 10 and NOT December 21. My bad and my apologies. All other
information is correct. Hope to see you
