Richard N. Allen, why do you not consider radiotelegraphy to be radio? Actually
Merriam-Webster online gives the etymology of ‘radio’ to be ‘radiotelegraphy.’

Possibly the physicist Ernest Rutherford, a pseudo Kiwi??? He did some
pre-Marconi, pre-Fessender radio work.

I know I'm biased, but wasn't there an NZ recluse who came up with the
concept of radio broadcasting?
I can't turn up any web search responses but memory suggests the claim
pre-dated 1900.

IRCA,
The only one I am interested in is the SS. I figured that the SS was
probably Cuba. The vitriol in the voice of the recorded parts surprised
me, and reminded me of recordings of Hitlers speeches. I wish I spoke
Spanish and could have understood it.

Mostly via the NHP fishbarrel at 1515U to 1540U
Way more activity than the past several weeks - dozens
of good carriers and some signals showing real promise -- example: 702 khz.
On my ALA100 (North South) there was very little of anything -
teensy audio on 747 and 1566 and that was about it
Yes, fair reception from DU (612, 702, and 783 kHz) when listening around
15:30. Nothing strong at my QTH, but just audible. Seemingly lower 1/2 of
the band. 73, Walt Salmaniw, Victoria, BC

Not really a good morning here for hearing trans-pacific DX. Carriers signals
from direction of DU were observed on 612 (4QR?), 702 (2BL?) and 774 (3LO?), as
well as a trace on 1116 kHz (4BC?). No signals from Asia were detected.
