I think Nick nailed it. I've used loops of "enormous" diameters, and multiple loops, too (like twice around). Andy recommended separating these by about a foot (30 cm). My largest loop circumference would be close to 150 to 200'. Again, mostly for convenience with trees located in that space.

Listening on the west coast, things are interesting. I parked on 860 about 5 minutes ago, and had CBKF-2 Saskatoon in with a solid signal. Within 5 minutes, it's completely changed to Spanish, likely KTRB in San Francisco. All this without lifting a finger to change any of the Perseus controls.
