Hey Les, first of all the 660 is NOT an ultralight--it's about the same size as a Sony ICF-7600GR, kind of a midsize portable. I know I don't have any pockets it'll easily fit in, hi. Second, the synch detector, at least on the sample I own, is actually rather BETTER than the one on the 7600GR--it holds sync on weak signals better. Unlike some of the Tecsun ultralights (like the PL-606), the 660 does NOT have DSP--it just has two bandwidths, both both are extremely well chosen in my opinion--the narrow BW really cuts down on splatter but still allows intelligible audio. Sensitivity on MW BCB? Um, not so much, especially toward the bottom of the dial, say, below 650 kHz. I found that using a Radio Plus Quantum Stick + (or some other inductively-tuned external AM loop or ferrite bar antenna) makes a huge difference in medium-wave (and longwave) signal strength. Sadly, the external-antenna jack on the 660 seems only to be useful above 2 MHz--inductive coupling is your only option.
Anyway, it's not an ultralight, so it probably isn't what you're looking for. BTW, it's excellent on shortwave (for the few stations that remain to be heard up there[!]).
