Did a bit of listening between 12:00 and 12:35 UTC this morning - what I
would consider slightly low average for this time of year.

Audio on 738khz (pop music) and 1566khz (talking...) and the jammer on
1053khz
and promising carriers on 531, 702, 828khz and a couple of others.

Was in the process of decommissioning the Drake R8 for a service interval
in my shop -
An odd thing with the Tone control on the R8 - if you visualize that the
POT goes from 8 o'clock (BASS) to 4 o'clock (TREBLE)
When the radio first comes on (I usually leave it on 24/7 for this
reason...)

The audio cuts out between the 8 and 11 o'clock position UNTIL the unit
warms up - this can take around 5 minutes... and then it's fine.

I have isolated this to a resistor in the Tone control circuit that has
become decidedly "thermal" -- that is, it is 6K when cold
and its correct value of 12K when it warms up - I have never seen a
resistor do this in 35+ years as a technician.

Anyway - back up receivers include the AOR-7030+ and the DX150B (yes, that
radio shack receiver!)
which was a veteran of the remarkable September-October 1976 season where
TA's came in nightly for a week or so.
It is still very much the same receiver it was then and I am pressing it
into service for old time sake.

Antennas - W/NW Flag with Wellbrook interface and REMOTE VACTROL unit
ALA100 - N-S antenna.
