Walt,
Just a guess, but being up a bit higher might cut off more of the ground
noise from surrounding areas. I don't know the area well in Lincoln City
but I do know where Gary stayed in Seaside and he would be surrounded by
noise from lights, other motels, computers, etc. That area of the Prom

Hi Gary,
Thanks for posting the MP3s. On the 585 recording, the meat of the possible
ID is between 2:18.3 and 2:20.5, a mere two and a half seconds! However, I'm
90% sure I'm hearing the male announcer with an Aussie accent, and in
English as you mentioned.

When I first tuned to 585 kHz (in Oregon) and heard the classic rock at a

ever shown up for me at Grayland on my modest

wherever we listen from, there can be some pretty interesting programming to

talk.
It will be fun to hear your recordings.

Hi Walt,

I couldn't get anything out of it other than the inflections sound like
Aussie EE. At about 2:18, it almost sounds like he's giving the call
letters (2WEB), but I'm not willing to be the farm on it.
2WEB has streaming audio on its website http://www.outbackradio.com.au/

Hi Bruce,
Chuck sent me an email after listening to the same 585 kHz MP3, with the
opinion that clipped audio (because the recording level was set too high)
was distorting a 2WEB ID. That's certainly possible, since the PL-380 lacks a
line-out recording jack, and it's easy to set the
585 kHz was booming in with classic rock from the DU direction on
Tuesday (no idea who that was, but got a nice MP3 of Boston's More Than
a Feeling).
This may be a Maori station or 2WEB. 2WEB used to be pop/rock years ago.
639 kHz has a DU English talk station (either Kiwi or Aussie) mixing
there at Grayland and is almost always talk.
It will be fun to hear your recordings.

Hello All,
Thanks to both Patrick and Tony for the suggestion of Noumea, New Caledonia as
the likely French station heard on 666 kHz here in Lincoln City, OR this week.
This was never heard during any of my visits to Grayland, and its signal
strength was only decent on one out of four days
