Hello Guys,

This amazing reception shatters the all-time

Thank you for the heads up on this, Chris. I just logged them too at 0526 as
I am hearing a man talking. Of course, there signal is mixing with the CLB
and a Canadian NDB , but hey, I'll take it.
P.S. I also heard some talk on 252 earlier tonight.

Just got in and turned on the R8, France 162 fair. Better than last
night as the noise level is lower on LW. It is 0552, not bad with a male
speaker and Inst mx.

153 - Threshold audio (sounds German) at 0535 UTC. Pulse noise QRM.
171 - Morocco at 0500-0540 checks. Man in French with talk, Arabic vocals.
Fair signal.
162 - France at 0530. News in French. Poor, but clear signal. New catch!

Congratulations Chris, yes I agree that it was a banner evening on longwave.
I heard six stations tonight and prior to tonight, I had never heard any on
any of my radios. The first one was at about 0300 on 252 kHz and I kept
hearing music and talking. Finally at about 0430, I started with 151,
Congrats Joe. Like you, I had not heard anything broadcast-related on
Longwave until last night when I logged 171-Morocco and 198-United Kingdom.
The other loggings tonight were all new here catches here. Armchair copy on
Algeria right now on 252 at 0618 UTC. Incredible!

You got me interested Joe, lots of LW last night also, my first night exploring
LW.

189 RR with pop music, Herman's Hermits etc. news at 0600 UTC
198 BBC, very weak under lot's of QRM

252 RTE-1 Ireland in with jazzy pop music and news and pos ID at 0600,
A DXer forwarded me an e-mail from another DXer who tried for last weekend's
WOON-1240 DX test.
It says in part Morse code came in very weak but definitely them.
The noteworthy part is that he's more than 2600 miles from the station, over
an all-land path.

what are you using
Last but not least, 252-Ireland. Good signal at 0630 UTC, now pretty much
alone on frequency with This is Radio One. It's 6:30. Then into news by
woman. Weather forecast at 0631, into program promo mentioning Radio One
music connection. Jazz music. Snippets of French still being heard from
Finally (0635UT) am getting enough audio on 855 to verify properly that this is
RNE1 lagging the webstream by about 15 seconds.
Snagged VoR on 1323 by similar methods earlier.
This TA DXing is hard work this evening!
best wishes,

Just a Drake R8 and a 17'x37' Conti Superloop currently configured to the
NE. I designed the feedboxes so they can double as variable resistance
terminators so the antenna can be quickly reconfigured for the opposite
direction with the flip of a couple of DPDT switches.

Chris, just got back from my evening out, and happened to be tuned to
Ireland on 252 when I read your post. Fair bit of beacon QRM, but
decent signal otherwise. Was getting Algeria there about 10 minutes
ago. Also noted France on 162, Morocco on 171, RMC on 216, traces of
the BBC on 198,
Congrats on the 2 catches! Definately harder work on AM BCB tonite. But on
longwave it's as easy as sleeping in on a Saturday morning ;-) .

Also checked the LW and sure enough, heard about half a dozen, with 162 the
best of the lot.
Fair to good level on 1323 with VOR in English at 07:00. This one seems to
always appear late in the evening, conditions permitting..Walt.

Nigel,
Ireland still has a signal (as does Algeria) at 0657 UTC, but LW TA signals
are fading pretty good presumably due to sunrise in Europe and Africa. 693
and 909 are the best signals here, both in English. I have Spanish talk by
man on 999 at 0706 UTC. Will be checking TP condx soon on the

Ireland had faded here by then Walt, but Iceland has really come up with
classical music on 189. Was also noting audio on 531, which certainly
didn't sound Algerian, so suspect it was likely the Faroes.
Nigel, quite good reception of Ireland at 07:07 UTC on 252 ...Walt.

Hi, Nick. No, for LW I'm using the ALA 100 with about a 40' diameter above
the garage. Works better than any of the Conti loops, although the giant N
loop isn't a bad performer either..Walt.
That's going to deliver more punch than my 16' perimeter
Simply incredible!! I'm going to have to splurge and buy one of those. 73.

My neighbor has a light dimmer. At least one. Anyway, the grounding has
knocked it way down, but it still is an issue on LW to a certain degree.
The Russian (FE) LWers over power the buzz though.

I notice the 1500' Eastern beverage does quite well with the TA LWers.
Often I can get audio quite well and not a peep off the EWEs. It is a
different situation the higher I go. By the time I get to MW, the
Eastern beverage is useless for TAs. I never noticed LW TAs on the
Eastern beverage before
