[IRCA] Seoul AM Radio: 90 stations in 10 mins.

2016-12-10 Thread Chris Kadlec
Here is the Seoul AM band in the most condensed fashion possible: 90 stations
in 10 minutes (edited down from 18 hours of recordings). Please feel free to
share on any other e-mail lists as this is the only AM-related one I take any
part in.

*** Listen here:
http://www.beaglebass.com/dx/audio/seoul/Seoul_AM_Radio_in_10_Minutes.mp3

My very detailed audio bandscans will be released at the end of this month
after 14 months of work. The audio-only one will run around 100 minutes and the
one with commentary at over 2 hours, one frequency and station at a time.

So for the ADHD listeners among us, please enjoy this one in the meantime.
There are plenty of radio stories, IDs, baseball, music, and more, including
some English content, though all clips at 10 seconds or less. And kudos to
anyone who can name at least 5 of the stations in the compilation (of which are
in no particular order)! For many of you in the west, a good number of these
are your everyday TP stations.

Yahoo? What do they have to do with this list?

And BTW, many many email clients have this issue.

It seems that links can get divided into two lines of text, with the
second line being missed unless one copies and pastes both lines. A
service from Yahoo to keep us from getting too lazy, I guess.

[IRCA] TP 10 Dec Victoria version

2016-12-10 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Although things became active again around 1530UT this morning, it
wasn't anything like yesterday. Earlier in the morning, the big
guns had made occasional appearances, sometimes with some strength,
and 954 was heard with weak pop music at 1202UT with nothing from
them around sunrise. But things fell off after 1300UT. Also, no
post sunrise reprises from 1566 which, at the best of times, never
pushed past a carrier here

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

594 JOAK man in Japanese 1201UT...nothing like this nearer sunrise

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

no

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

no

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

558 HLQH wispy soft vocal music //603, 1537UT
567 JOIK woman talking //594 1534UT
612 pop vocal 1532UT
603 HLSA soft vocal music 1537UT, ID'd with //558
747 // 774 JOIB/JOUB woman talking 1534UT, certainly not acting like
big guns just now.

1503 JOUK woman talking //594 1534UT, decidedly better on north Flag

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter) lots of near audio here

702 1098 1422 1566 1593

best wishes,

Nick

Actually, Walt, 0200 local (1000 UTC) is one of my favorite (favourite) times
to check the band, and during this month it often provides better Asian results
than the sunrise period. Unfortunately anyone who routinely chases Asian DX at
home during that time period is likely to be written off as an antisocial
misfit, especially if he has family and/ or work responsibilities. DXpeditions
are our only remaining chance to act like wild teenagers again, and chase DX
24/7.

Re: [IRCA] Oklahoma TP DX 12/10/16.

2016-12-10 Thread d1028gary
After an overnight FSL antenna project I was looking for some Asians to run
some A/B tests, but around 1300 only a few big guns (594, 747 and 1053) had any
audio at all. Even 1566-HLAZ was down in the noise. Another check at 1530
brought similar, dreary results. The new-design FSL (with Amidon ferrite)
managed to bring the underperforming TP signals on 594, 693, 747 and 1053 up
from miserable to mediocre.

I happened to return home from a delivery before 10:00 UTC, and the
spectrum was pretty full with Japanese signals, but 1st tier stations
only. Not a peep from 738 or Australia that I could see. 594 was the
strongest, with 747, then 774 next in line. Very good reception of 594.

If you were here in Fort Wayne for the clubs' 2015 joint convention, you
might recall Lisa's grandmother's keynote speech.

Today she turns 100 and we're celebrating this remarkable woman.
