[IRCA] New EWE Idea
Hi Everyone, Yes, I am still here, but I still have my noise level. I don't really know what it is coming from, but when the power in the neighborhood goes off, it is gone. I am thinking of trying another EWE, but this one will run E/W, with the lode to the West, pretty much aimed at Taiwan or Northern Philippines. I have enough room, from the old stump behind the house to the shore pine tree to the East, runs about 112 feet. I figure I can run a piece of PVC pipe up the side of the tree and attach another one on the stump in the backyard. With some luck I should be able to get up 20-25 feet. I can easily I pound a bunch of copper pipe into the ground around the tree for a ground for the termination. I may disconnect my NW EWE and use that coax, or I can run an extension from my old SW EWE coax. That antenna came down a couple years ago from out in the field. I never replaced it as it is not easy on the far side of the electric fence and climbing the tree. With the noise level I just never bothered. At nearly 70, I can still climb a tree, but if I can get away from having to do it, I would rather. So, this is project I am considering. I should be able to put a null to the East with a pot again, nulling like Long view WA during the day, to give me a lobe to the West. I thought about a KAZ or K9AY, but I have the pesky return wire near the ground that my mower gets in the way. A EWE is up out of the way better and they work well here. The interesting thing about this EWE, it will be longer than my old SW one. Should be interesting to try. Re: [IRCA] KIAQ on AM?
And, that, Mark is exactly what you heard. You had WMT, which was carrying University of Iowa football at the time. Announcer Gary Dolphin was giving a "shout-out" to some of the stations on Learfield's Hawkeye Network, one of which was KIAQ (others that he mentioned were WDBQ 107.5 in Dubuque, IA/Galena, IL and KCSI 95.3/KOAK 1080 in southwest Iowa). I happened to be listening in on the broadcast on local affiliate KOTK-1420 in Omaha at that moment. 73, Rick Dau South Omaha, Nebraska From: IRCA on behalf of Mark Pettifor Sent: Sunday, November 18, 2018 8:20 AM To: Mailing list for the International Radio Club of America Subject: Re: [IRCA] KIAQ on AM?
