I recently had my Drake R8 worked on for audio spiking problems. Some of
the older electrolytic capacitors had to be replaced and the circuit board
cleaned. The cost of repair was only $50 and the technician was really good.

occasionally. The one on 1070.06 is stronger on the antenna aimed NNE. The
carrier on 1070.03 is the same weak strength on both the NNE and WNW

According to the DM780 waterfall in Ham Radio Deluxe, they are off frequency
a bit on 1559.93. This is causing a SAH on the frequency. I switched between
USB and LSB on the Drake R8, but couldn't hear the USB component of their
signal. Strange!

I usually tune below a major frequency by 50Hz in USB mode and watch the
carrier show up on the scale at 500. If there are any carriers off frequency
you can see them even if you can't hear them. Same with trans-oceanic
splits. And, HRD is a free download. :)

not regularly heard here due to KRVN's powerful signal.
Other dominant Canadians at night are 620-CKRM, 770-CHQR, 800-CHAB,
890-CJDC, 900-CKBI, 960-CFAC, 990-CBW (HUGE!! I can't hear local KRKS under
them), 1010-CBR,
CJWW must have a lobe toward the west. I've never logged CJWW, but can pull
in KSJB in Jamestown, ND which would likely be the dominating station on 600
if semi-local KCOL ever signed off. KSJB is also country music. I heard them
using Classic Country slogans last night.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders are actually a CFL football team. The CFL

I don't know who the country station would be unless someone was mixing
genres like 600-KSJB did the other night. They gave a Classic Country KSJB
slogan then began playing the song Mister Bojangles which really isn't
country music.
I also heard a legal ID for KSCO at 0200 EST through KSLL
on their
rate card, their coverage map and their format/audience profile sheet. The
format is listed as golden oldies for the baby boomers age 50 and up. The
also call their listening area Castle Country.

Me too, but my old Sanserino Loop is sitting in the rafters out in the
garage. It's not a bad loop antenna, neither was the Kiwa Loop. I have to
agree with Dennis about the 4 foot Box Loop. That one was the best so far.
Too bad it takes up so much space.

The crate I used was the Sterlite #1692 White (same one Kevin used in his
article). My nearby Home Depot carries this crate and the price was just
$4.88 .

Here in Colorado there are TA carriers on 531, 585, 594, 612, 639, 729, 738,
747, 774, 855, and 891 at 0445 UTC. Most aren't too strong, but closer to
LSS there were TA carriers all over the band, some breaking audio. The 891
carrier was in an hour before LSS!
