I am in Galena, Alaska in the central part of the state halfway between
Nome & Fairbanks.
About a week ago, I was tuning the AM Band in my Grundig Sattelit 750 with
external AM antenna jack connected to a 225 foot long wire.
I was tuned to 1017kHz and had serious spillage from KVNT 1020
Listened from 1140-1215 UT and heard two stations with audio.
594 JOAK hrd with a few words at 1148 UT.
1566 HLAZ hrd at 1152 UT.
Weak carriers on 738, 747, 774 and 1575.

Much better conditions this morning, with lots of hets from top to
bottom though 1566 HLAZ never peaked at decent levels like it often
does. I appreciate Bill Block's reports--I've used them as guides since
moving to AZ.

For those with adequate land (not me), here are some links to reversible BOG /
Beverage articles gleaned from the Topband (160m) reflector.
Whether these really offer any advantage over terminated loops (DKAZ etc.) or
arrays of same for MWDX is debatable.

I will take D layer enhancement during the day for the MW band and 24/7
E-layer enhancement for round the clock FM ESkip. ;)
On another note, I saw that for the 2020

As the new DX season gets underway I'd like to get a decent pair of headphones
for my Drake R8. I've used cheap iPod type phones up until now & I'm thinking
some good ones might provide better clarity for my aging ears.
I'd also prefer not to spend more than $100 for them

I believe that the Drake R8 audio output is MONO so there is no point
wasting money on a set of stereo headphones...

Did a bit of listening between 12:00 and 12:35 UTC this morning - what I
would consider slightly low average for this time of year.
Audio on 738khz (pop music) and 1566khz (talking...) and the jammer on
1053khz
and promising carriers on 531, 702, 828khz and a couple of others.

This morning brought the first Asians of the month. Both 747
and 774 from Japan had weak audio around 1150, with NHK pips noted at
1200. Lots of carriers throughout the band, but after 1200 they seemed
mostly DU, including several decent ones in the X-band. No DU audio though.
