What's funny at this end is that I have two DXing rock stars, Salmaniw and
Hall-Patch
that have been espousing the benefits of SDR for years
And I have been more averse to reason than the two current Presidential
candidates... :-)
Anyway. The times, they are a changing.

For me it is also the quality of the rx. Quite frankly, the Perseus is
superior to anything else I ever used and that includes R8A/B and AOR
7030+.
Yesterday I wrote that near sunrise it is usual to get XEDP mixing with
KGNC here on 710. Note that I live 12 miles from WGN's 50 kW ND across
I think every "radio" whether defined by software or bricks and mortar
capacitors, resistors and diodes
was always meant to be used in the moment.
One of its greatest attributes is the ability to listen (and enjoy) live
while analyzing the "World" around
the station you are listening to - that
You can indeed, and you can use the display function to identify
frequencies where something unusual is present that needs to be
investigated by listening.

Indeed a good question, and a good analysis. But bottom line, isn't it
really about the ability to scan and record multiple frequencies at a time,
and to also be able to visually spot things more easily so as to direct the
search for DX ?

what a good question
I like your conjecture and have a question -- can you use an SDR to listen
"live "? I expect the answer is yes, and if so, is it suited to that use?

My wife asked me, after I quoted several DXer's including Robert Ross of
Ontario who is helping me get a handle on SDR usage.
The topic was: "Why are the new fleet of SDR's so much better that the
classic radios of old?"
I kid you not - my wife asked me this on the way to the University this
