[IslamCity] The Meaning of Hadith

2005-03-06 Thread Syeda Muneeba Masood

The Meaning of Hadith
[For details on hadith see: A'zami, Muhammad Mustafa: Studies in Hadith Methodology and Literature, Indianapolis, 1977.]
The word hadith means news, report or narration. It is in this general sense that the word is used in the Qur'an. [e.g. Sura 12:101.] Technically, the word hadith, (pl. ahadith) means in particular the reports (verbal and written) about the sunna of the Prophet Muhammad. Hadith reports about the Prophet Muhammad are of the following kinds:

What he said (qaul).
What he did (fi'l).
What he (silently) approved (taqrir) in others' actions.
There are also reports about him, i.e. about what he was like (sifa).

The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: By Allah, if Allah guides one person by you, it is better for you than the best types of camels. [al-Bukhaaree, Muslim]

The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also said, Whoever calls to guidance will have a reward similar to the reward of the one who follows him, without the reward of either of them being lessened at all.

[IslamCity] Seeking Help from The Prophet = SHIRK (polytheism)

2005-03-06 Thread Najelaa'äÌáÇÁ

Seeking Help from The Prophet by Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah bin Baz

Praise is to Allah and peace and blessings be upon the Prophet of Allah, the members of his Family and his Companions and on all those who proceed on his path.
The weekly magazine, Al-Mujtama of Kuwait, had in its issue No.15 dated 19-4-1390 A.H., published a poem containing invocation to the Prophet (s.a.w) and appeals to him to help the Ummah (Islamic Community) and to salvage it from mutual disaccord and disagreements. The poem signed by someone called Amina, ran as follows:

" O Prophet of Allah, come to the rescue of a world caught in the flames of a war, O Prophet of Allah, come to the rescue of the Ummah, plunged in the darkness of doubts since long, O Prophet of Allah, come to the rescue of the Ummah which has lost sight of its vision in the wilderness of grief ... etc. "
And the poem concludes with the following lines:

" O Prophet of Allah, come to the rescue of the Ummah, plunged in the darkness of doubt since long. Pray you! Bring speedy victory as you did at the battle of Badar when you called out to the All-Mighty, And lo! Defeat was turned to a Glorious Victory. Verily Allah has soldiers you do not see. "
Thus the person who wrote this poem cries out to the Prophet beseeching him to rescue the Ummah by achieving speedy victory; she forgets or ignores the fact that victory is granted by Allah the All-Mighty Alone and that it is not in the hands of any other creation. Allah the All-Mighty says in the Noble Quran:

"... And there is no victory except from Allah, The All-Mighty, The All-Wise" [3:126]

" If Allah helps you, none can overcome you: and if He forsakes you, who is there after Him that can help you? ..." [3:160]
It has been established by the verses of the Noble Quran and by the consensus of the Ummah that Allah the All-Mighty created all human beings so that they may worship Him. He sent the Messengers and revealed the Books to expound the manner of worship and the path of the mission. In this regard, Allah the All-Mighty states in the Noble Quran:

" And I (Allah) created not the jinns and the men exceptthey should worship Me (Alone) " [51:56]
" And verily, We have sent among every Ummah (community, nation) a Messenger (proclaiming): ' Worship Allah (Alone), and avoid (or keep away from) Taghut ...' " [16:36]
" And We did not send any Messenger before you (O Muhammad s.a.w) but We inspired him (saying): La ilaha illa Ana [none has the right to be worshipped but I (Allah)], so worship Me (Alone and none else) " [21:25]
" Alif-Lam-Ra. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows there meanings]. (This is) a Book, the Verses whereof are perfected (in every sphere of knowledge, etc.), and then explained in detail from One (Allah), Who is All-Wise and Well-Acquainted (with all things). (Saying) worship none but Allah. Verily, I (Muhammad s.a.w) am unto you from Him a warner and a bringer of glad tidings. " [11:1,2]
It is clear from the above verses that Allah has created human beings and jinns but for one purpose only: to worship Him Alone and not to attribute any partner to Him. And He has said clearly that the Messengers were sent to call for this worship and to forbid what is contrary to it. The verses of the Noble Quran are clear and categorical in stating that Allah and Allah Alone is to be worshipped. This worship implies Faith in the Oneness of Allah, obedience to Him, compliance of His Commands and abstention from all that has been forbidden by Him. Allah has ordained these tenets in numerous verses:

"And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him ..." [17:23]
" And they were commanded not, but that they should worship Allah, and worship none but Him Alone... (abstaining from ascribing partners to Him)." [98:5]
" Verily, We have sent down the Book to you (O Muhammad s.a.w) in truth: So worship Allah (Alone) by doing religious deeds sincerely for Allah's sake only, (and not to show off, and not to set up rivals with Him in worship). Surely, the religion (i.e. the worship and the obedience) is for Allah only ..." [39:2,3]
The verses dealing on this concept are abundant in The Noble Quran. They all point to the necessity of sincerity in worshipping Allah Alone and to give up worshipping of all others including the Prophets. There is no doubt that Dua (invocation) is a vital and comprehensive form of worship; it is to be addressed in all sincerity to Allah Alone as Allah says in The Noble Quran:

" So, call you (O Muhammad s.a.w and the believers) upon (or invoke) Allah making (your) worship pure for Him (Alone) (by worshipping none but Him and by doing religious deeds sincerely for Allah's sake only and not to show off and not to set up rivals with Him in worship). However much the disbelievers (in the Oneness of Allah) may hate (it). " [40:14]

" And the mosques are for Allah (Alone), so invoke notanyone along with Allah " [72:18]

[IslamCity] Names/Attributes of Allah

2005-03-06 Thread Najelaa'äÌáÇÁ

Ninety-Nine Names/Attributes of Allah, subhana watala According to Quran and Sunnah Surely, the Muttaqun (the pious who fear Allah swt much) desire to be amongst the Mufarradun (those who remember Allah, subhana watala, much, and whose enemies are destroyed by Allah, t'ala, for their wrong deeds). The Names of Allaah mentioned in the Qur'aan and Sunnah number over one hundred, as several scholars have agreed (see Al-Qawaa'id al-Muthlaa fi Sifaat Allaahi wa Asmaa'ihi by Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih ibn 'Uthaymeen). Among these names are 99 that will lead to paradise, insha'Allah. There is a list of 99 specific Names of Allah that is found in hadith and is rejected as 'weak' by the following scholars: at-Tirmidhi, al-Baihaqi, ibn Hazm, al-Dawudi, ibn Taymiya, ibn Katheer, ibn Hajr, al-Juwaini, ibn Baz, al-Albani, ibn Uthaimin and Abdul Qadir al-Arnaut. They consider the actual
listing of the names as a later addition by one of the narrators of the hadith and that some narrators mistakenly included it as part of the hadith. This well-known or at least highly publicized list contains Names of Allah swt that cannot be found in authentic hadith or Quranic text. Meanwhile, modern day Sufi's exploit this list by offering mystical, unsupported advice for the use of each Name (i.e. "say this 100 times in a row over a glass of water, blow on it, and you are guaranteed success..."). The fact that there are 99 Names leading to paradise, is authenticated in the following hadith, although it does not list which Names those are: Hadith - Sahih Muslim and Bukhari 8:419, Narrated Abu Huraira : Allah has ninety-nine Names, i.e., one hundred minus one, and whoever 'ahsaha' [enumerates them, believes in them, ponders their meanings, worships Allah by them and supplicates with them, and acts by them
according to one's belief in them] will enter Paradise; and Allah is Witr ("Odd", i.e. He is one, and it is an odd number) and loves 'the Witr' (i.e., odd numbers). The Names of Allah swt should be memorized, understood, acted upon, and called upon. The 99 Names listed on these pages are not necessarily the 99 that you should learn in order to attain paradise, but are merely provided as a starting point for learning and ultimate means to draw near your Lord. http://muttaqun.com/99names.htmlThe Names of Allaah are not limited to ninety-ninehttp://63.175.194.25/index.php?ln=engds=qalv=browseQR=41003dgn=4The

[IslamCity] LIFE: India: Who is Sania Mirza?

2005-03-06 Thread Abdul Alim

Saturday, 26, February, 2005 (17, Muharram, 1426)

The Sania ManiaSiraj Wahab | Arab News

Sania Mirza

Who is Sania Mirza? If you put that question to Indians living abroad, you’ll get a frown because they’ll think you should know all about her. Ask an Indian in India, and after the eyes stop rolling, you’ll be handed just about any newspaper or magazine that’s handy. And there she is, peeking out of every publication and every TV screen as writers and anchors gush “This Lass Has Got Class” or “She’s the Belle of the Ball.” It’s called “Sania Mania,” and advertising agencies are working overtime to cash in on it.
Well, to the answer then. Sania Mirza is an 18-year-old Muslim girl from Hyderabad, India, who has caught the attention of the world of tennis since Feb. 12 when she became the first Indian to win a Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) title — and the $140,000 prize that went with it. She was given a wild card for the Hyderabad Open event, which she won by beating ninth seed Alyona Bondarenko of the Ukraine. That victory came after her amazing exploits in the Australian Open last month where she became the first Indian to reach the third round of a Grand Slam event. Sania lost to Serena Williams. By her superb display she jumped from a 400 ranking last year into the Top 100 this year. She is on No. 99 in the latest world rankings.
Those are cold statistics and are for the record books. That still doesn’t tell us what sort of person she is and what her background is. “She is a deeply religious girl who prays five times a day and tries hard not to play during the holy month of Ramadan. She reads the Qur’an every day,” her father and coach, Imran Mirza, told Arab News in a telephone interview from Hyderabad this week. “She doesn’t want to miss out on college, so she recently enrolled herself for a bachelor’s degree in mass communications, having completed her higher secondary course (Plus 2) last year. She went to Nasr School, an English-medium school which is a typical Muslim one.”
So she wants to be a journalist? “Having answered hundreds of questions from hundreds of journalists after winning the hearts and minds of a multitude of Indians, she probably knows the right questions to ask,” said the doting father.
Sania had already learned the nuances of journalism when someone asked her what’s it like for a Muslim girl to wear short skirts and slug it out on court. She quickly replied: “I don’t wear miniskirts on the streets.”
Imran Mirza himself was a sports journalist once. He ran his own sports magazine called “Sportscall”. “It folded a long time back,” he said, “but my heart was once into journalism.” The father thinks that the whole family has contributed in a big way to Sania’s rise to sports stardom. “My younger daughter Anam, who is 11, probably missed a lot of time with us because we were busy with Sania so much.”
Here in Saudi Arabia, old-timers recall one of Sania’s great-uncles coming for Haj many times. “He was my Phuppa Al-Haj Mirza Shakoor Beg,” confirmed Imran. “He performed Haj 31 times and died at the age of 96.” Sania’s grandfather was an avid sportsman.
“My father, Muhammad Zafar Mirza, played university-level cricket. He also played club cricket for Middlesex in England. But his first love was hockey. Then he went into academics,” said Imran. Sania’s mother also is a sports lover. “She never played organized sports though, but she played badminton a lot,” said Imran.
How did Sania get into tennis? “It was natural for her to pick up some kind of sport. Cricket was not an option for women, and we discouraged her from getting into swimming so tennis became the best option,” said Imran.
“We knew she had talent when she picked up the racket for the first time at the age of six. We knew then that she was destined for big things, but we didn’t know she’d reach the Top 100 ranking at 18. Now she wants to be in the Top 50 by the end of 2006 and the Top 25 by 2007.”
Imran says finding corporate sponsors initially was tough. “GVK Industries did a lot to promote her. Now we are deluged with offers from sponsors.”
Anirban Das, senior vice president of Globosport, which handles Sania’s commercial work, told Outlook news magazine that he spent the last few months “persuading people, trying to convince them there was something special about this girl.”
Now they have seen the light, and he is flooded with offers since Sania’s appeal extends beyond the demographic of tennis-watchers in that she is an icon for all young people — particularly women. As she was walking back after losing to World No. 7 Serena Williams in that celebrated Australian Open encounter at Melbourne’s Vodafone Arena, Brad Gilbert, coach of the likes of Andre Agassi and Andy Roddick, told her: “You have a bright future. I would like to see you in the Top 50 in the next 12 months.”
That’s what she’s working on now. Sania Mirza possesses a simple, wholesome charm that comes from sheer earnestness. There is

[IslamCity] Commentary on Jihad

2005-03-06 Thread Curtis Sharif

fyi
All the Prophets waged jihad to establish freedom to worship Allah. Working to stop the oppression of the Worship of Allah, by eradicating the practice of blocking access to the masjid for prayer and congregational prayer, by dictate, is a continuing form of this effort.

Peace, Curtis Sharif

From : The Holy QuranTranslation: A.Yusuf AliPublisher: Islamic Propagation centre internationalJihadiiVerse 190 : Fight in the cause of GodThose who fight you, *(204)But do not transgress limitsFor God loveth not transgressors.*(204) War is only permissible in self-defence, and under well defined limits. When undertaken, it must be pushed with vigour, but not relentlessly, but only to restore peace and freedom for the worship of God. In any case strict limits must not be transgressed: woman, children, old and infirm men should not be molested, nor trees and crops cut down, nor peace withheld when the enemy comes to terms.ixVerse 20: Those who believe, and sufferExile and strive with mightAnd main, in God's cause, *(1270)With their goods and persons,Have the
highest rankIn the sight of God:They are the peopleWho will achieve (salvation)*(1270) Here is a good description of Jihad. It may require fightingin God's cause, as a form of self-sacrifice. But its essence consists in (1) a true and sincere Faith, which so fixes its gaze on God. That all selfish or worldly motives seem paltry and fade away, and (2) an earnest and ceaseless activity, involving the sacrifice (if needed be) of life, person, or property, in the service of God. Mere brutal fighting is opposed to the whole spirit of Jihad, while the sincere scholar's pen or a preacher’s voice or wealthy man's contributions may be the most valuable forms of Jihad. There are more descriptions in the Holy Quran about Jihad but these are the most clear ones, I found.Book: Principles of IslamWriter: Maulana Wahiduddin KhanPublisher: Good Word Books
IndiaJihad-Jihad means struggle. Any sincere effort for the cause of religion will be called Jihad. Man's self leads him to evil. So waging war with the self is Jihad. Sometimes friends or acquaintances pressurize you into engaging in activities which are not right from the moral standpoint. At that time, refusing to yield such pressure and sticking firmly to an upright attitude are forms of Jihad.Exhorting people to goodness and making them refrain from indecency are tasks entailing a great struggle. Continuing the dawah campaign whilst bearing all hardship is also Jihad.
If having been treated with bitterness by neighbours or acquaintances, or after suffering and other kind of provocation, one refrains from reaction and retaliation and maintains pleasant relations unilaterally, this will also be a form of Jihad.
There is another kind of Jihad which is called "qital' that is, engaging in war at God's behest at the time of purely in self-defence in order to counter aggression on the part of the enemies. This Jihad is purely in self-defence in order to counter aggression. The literal meaning of Jihad is not war. But to fight in self-defence in accordance with God's commandments also involves a struggle; that is why it is also called Jihad.
Jihad meaning war, is however a temporary and circumstantial matter. If in the real sense any need for defence arises only then will armed Jihad be launched. If no such severe urgency arises, no armed Jihad will take place.
Just calling an action 'Jihad" will not morally validate it. The only true Jihad is that which is carried out in accordance with Islam. Islamic Jihad is, in actual fact, another name for peaceful struggle. This peaceful struggle is sometimes an inward-looking thing, like waging Jihad with the self when it takes place at the level of feeling; sometimes it is desired externally, and manifests itself at the physical level though gestures (like kneeling, prostrating oneself before God).

[IslamCity] INTERCESSION : What Is The Right Concept ?

2005-03-06 Thread Bashir Abid

INTERCESSION : What Is The Right Concept ?

INTERCESSION - dictionary meanings are : i)
Mediationii) Prayer or petition in favour of
another. INTERCEDE : To act between parties with a
view to reconciling differences. Arabic tri-literal
root of this word is : (sheen - fa - ain) - shafa'a ;
to double something ; to attach, add something with
another ; pairing of things; either part of a pair;
even numbers (opposite of this is watter). Raghib
Asphahani in Mufredaat wrote : Al shafa'at is to
accompany someone with a view to take care and help
him. In Islamic Jurisprudence Shuffa'h means : A
special right of purchasing a property whereby a
person can own it at market price. Ain al shaafeh -
eyes which due to weakness or disease see the things
double (double vision). Naaqah al shaafeh - a she
camel with two babies; one accompanying her and the
other in the womb (yet to born). Naaqah al shafooh -
a she camel who let the entire milk in one milking
instead of twice a day. Al shafa'ai - different kinds
of grasses which grow together in pairs (Taj ul
A'roos). Al shaa't al shaafeh - a goat accompanied
along with her baby ( Ibn Faris).

It becomes clear from these definitions and examples
that basic meaning of INTERCESSION (Shafa'at) is to
act jointly and to look after each others interests.
Nepotism or undeserved favoritism (Sifaarish or Wasta
or Waseela) is its corrupted meanings which has been
adopted and spread by characterless persons.

The main goal of Quran is to establish a
socio-economic system which satisfy man's needs and
develop his human potentials. For this purpose, Quran
advocates a system of collective living rather than
individualism because the development of human
potential, the character building, and the
satisfaction of man's needs could be achieved only in
an healthy and stable society. A social system which
promotes or encourages selfishness, greed and
exploitation of fellow human beings; and where the
individual interests prevails over the collective
interests ; and where the haves do not care for the
haves not; in that system, in spite, of all
progress, developments and abundances, the human
potentials remain suppressed and the human needs
remain unsatisfied. Such a social system produce
corrupt and character less individuals and creates
severe imbalances in all spheres of the society.

Accordingly, in a Muslim society (that follows the
Quranic Values System) every individual is an
INTERCESSOR - (shafeeh) , in the sense that they look
after each other's affairs and protect each other's
interests. They show friendly regards, make every
effort on each other's behalf to achieve the
objectives and are kind among themselves graciously.
Similarly, The Chief Executive of an Islamic State
(The Ruler) is INTERCESSOR of his fellow-citizen. His
primary responsibility is to ensure protection for
every citizen and not to let any of his subjects to
feel lonesome and neglected in respect of his
individual rights and basic needs.

This sort of INTERCESSION among the Muslims is not
limited to themselves but extends to other nations
also because their commitment with God is to make His
System of Economy (Rububiut al a'limeeni) successful
and useful for the whole mankind. For this purpose
they are enjoined to cooperate with other nations in
all works which are carried out according to divine
laws for the welfare, peace, stability and strength of
mankind (Bir wal Taqwa). On the contrary, they are
prohibited not to cooperate with those who acts
against the interests of mankind and make plans which
create division, rifts and disunity among the people
and sap their energies and vigor and leave them
unsubstantial (Ithm wal A'dwan). Accordingly, Quran
says: Mann Yashf'a Shafa'atan
Hassanatan..Whoever help and support a good cause,
he shares in all its credit and in its eventual
victory - Wa Mann Yashf'a Shafa'atan
Sayie'atan..And whoever support a bad cause he
share in its evil consequences.. (4:85)

This is Quranic concept of INTERCESSION. Now, compare
this with the traditional concept. It is believed that
on the Day of Judgement, after hearing and looking
into everybodys' record, God will sentenced the
criminals and the sinners to hell. Then, the pious and
the holy men, particularly the prophets (and from
among them Prophet Mohammed in particular) would come
forward for the defence of these criminals and request
general amnesty. God will pardon them on the request
of these holy and pious men and send these criminals
from hell to heaven. They call it INTERCESSION.

Obviously, this concept of INTERCESSION is not meant
in the Quran rather it demolishes the whole edifice of
Islam which is firmly established on the principle of
accountability. Quran says: Fa Mann Ya'mal Misqala
Zarratin KhairanYara ho. Wa Mann Ya'mal Misqala
Zarratin Sharran Yara ho(meaning) On the day of
judgment everyone will be shown the exact import of
everything that they had thought, said or done

The Human Rights Record of the United States in 2004

By the Information Office of the State Council of the
People's Republic of China

March 3, 2005

In 2004 the atrocity of US troops abusing Iraqi POWs
exposed the dark side of human rights performance of
the United States. The scandal shocked the humanity
and was condemned by the international community. It
is quite ironic that on Feb. 28 of this year, the
State Department of the United States once again posed
as the the world human rights police and released
its Country Reports on Human Rights Practices for
2004. As in previous

years, the reports pointed fingers at human rights
situation in more than 190 countries and regions
(including China) but kept silent on the US misdeeds
in this field. Therefore, the world people have to
probe the human rights record behind the Statue of
Liberty in the United States.

I. On Life, Liberty and Security of Person

American society is characterized with rampant violent
crimes, severe infringement of people's rights by law
enforcement departments and lack of guarantee for
people's rights to life, liberty and security of
person.

Violent crimes pose a serious threat to people's
lives. According to a report released by the
Department of Justice of the United States on Nov. 29,
2004, in 2003 residents aged 12 and above in the
United States experienced about 24 million
victimizations, and there occurred 1,381,259 murders,
robberies and other violent crimes, averaging 475
cases per 100,000 people. Among them there were 16,503
homicides, up 1.7 percent over 2002, or nearly six
cases in every 100,000 residents, and one of every 44
Americans aged above 12 was victimized.

The Associated Press reported on June 24, 2004 that
the number of violent crimes in many US cities were on
the rise. In 2003 Chicago alone recorded 598
homicides, 80 percent of which involved the use of
guns. The Washington D.C. reported 41,738 murders,
robberies and other violent crimes in 2003, averaging
6,406.4 cases per 100,000 residents. In 2004 the
District recorded 198 killings, or a homicide rate of
35 per 100,000 residents. Detroit, which has less than
1 million residents, recorded 18,724 criminal cases in
2003, including 366 murders and 814 rapes, which
amounted to a homicide rate of 41 per 100,000
residents.

In 2003 the homicide rate in Baltimore was 43 per
100,000 residents. The Baltimore Sun reported on Dec.
17, 2004 that the city reported 271 killings from
January to early December in 2004.

It was reported that on Sept. 8, 2004 that by Sept. 4,
2004 there had been 368 homicides in the city, up 4.2
percent year-on-year. The USA Today reported on July
16, 2004 that in an average week in the US workplace
one employee is killed and at least 25 are seriously
injured in violent assaults by current or former
co-workers. The Cincinnati Post reported on Nov. 12,
2004 that homicides average 17 a week and there are
nearly 5,500 violent

assaults a day at US job sites.

The United States has the biggest number of gun owners
and gun violence has affected lots of innocent lives.
According to a survey released by the University of
Chicago in 2001, 41.7 percent

of men and 28.5 percent of women in the United States
report having a gun in their homes, and 29.2 percent
of men and 10.2 percent of women personally own a gun.
The Los Angeles Times reported on Jul. 19, 2004 that
since 2000 the number of firearm holders rose 28
percent in California.

About 31,000 Americans are killed and 75,000 wounded
by firearms each year, which means more than 80 people
are shot dead each day. In 2002 there were 30,242
firearm killings in the United States; 54 percent of
all suicides and 67 percent of all homicides were
related to the use of firearms. The Associated Press
reported that 808 people were shot dead in the first
half of 2004 in Detroit.

Police violence and infringement of human rights by
law enforcement agencies also constitute a serious
problem. At present, 5,000 law enforcement agencies in
the United States use TASER - a kind of electric shock
gun, which sends out 50,000 volts of impulse voltage
after hitting the target. Since 1999, more than 80
people died from TASER shootings, 60 percent of which
occurred between November 2003 and November 2004.

A survey found that in the 17 years from 1985 to 2002,
Los Angeles recorded more than 100 times increase in
police shooting at automobile drivers, killing at
least 25 and injuring more than 30 of them. Of these
cases, 90 percent were due to misjudgment. (The Los
Angeles Times, Feb. 29, 2004.)

GOP pedophilia and SM trysts: A long history going back to Bush 41 and Reagan
By Wayne Madsen
March 3, 2005—The recent scandal involving gay male escort and right-wing faux journalist Jeff Gannon (a.k.a. James Dale Guckert and possibly a few other aliases) is not welcome news for the purported sadomasochistic hedonists in the White House administrations of both George W. and George H. W. Bush.
As with their fascist fellow travelers in Hitler's Germany, Franco's Spain, and "The Colonels'" Greece, many of the fascists associated with the Bush family have a predilection for sex with children and young recruits within the U.S. military. However, since the 1980s, the Bush cabal has been able to keep the GOP's dark secrets away from the disinfectant of sunshine and media attention.

Inside the Committee that Runs the World
By David J. Rothkopf

September 11, 2001, was a catalytic event that revealed the core character of the Bush administration’s national security team. As rival factions fought for the president’s ear, the transformative ideals espoused by the neocons gained ascendancy—triggering a rift that has split the Republican foreign-policy establishment to its foundations.

Covertly, America has abandoned the goal of victory in Iraq

by Andrew J. Bacevich
Wednesday, March 02, 2005
Americans of a certain age will recall Douglas MacArthur's pithy aphorism: "There is no substitute for victory." The remark captures an essential element of our military tradition. When the United States goes to war, it fights to win, to force the enemy to do our will. To sacrifice our soldiers' lives for anything less -- as MacArthur charged was the case in Korea and later unambiguously became the case in Vietnam -- smacks of being somehow un-American.

Bayazid Bastami the Rabbi One day Hadhrat Bayazid Bastami rahmatullah alayhi while in meditation, saw himself in a synagogue dressed as a Jew. At first he was confused, but when he kept on seeing the same vision over and over again, he decided to enact it. So, he dressed himself as a Jew and went to their synagogue. When the Jews and their scholars were present, their chief Rabbi stood up to speak. But when he stood up, his tongue became stuck and he could not talk. After he had been standing quietly
for some time, the Jews started to complain. The Rabbi said, "In this gathering there is a follower of the Prophet Muhammed (sallalahu alayhi wassalam) and I cannot speak because he has come to examine us." On hearing this, their anger raged like wildfire and they asked the Rabbi to give them permission to kill this follower of the Prophet Muhammad (sallalahu alayhi wassalam). The Rabbi replied, "He cannot be killed without proof, so we must talk to him peacefully and respectfully and then we can decide." The Rabbi then said, "Oh follower of Muhammad (sallalahu alayhi wassalam). For the sake of your Prophet please stand up in your place. If you can remove our doubt about Islam then we shall accept Islam, but if you can't, then we shall kill you." On hearing this, Hadhrat Bayazid rahmatullah alayhi stood up and gave permission for them to question
him. Rabbi: What is one and not two? Bayazid: Allah. Rabbi: What is two and not three? Bayazid: Night and day. [Qur'aan chapter 17 verse 12: "And we made night and day two examples."] Rabbi: What is three and not four? Bayazid: The Throne, Chair, and the Pen of Allah. Rabbi: What is four and not five? Bayazid: The Torah, Bible, Psalms, and the Qur'aan. Rabbi: What is five and not six? Bayazid: The five compulsory Prayers. Rabbi: What is six and not seven? [Qur'aan chapter 50 verse 38: "And we created the Sky and the Earth and whatever is between them in six days"] Rabbi: What is seven and not eight? Bayazid: The seven skies. created the seven skies layer upon layer!"] Rabbi: What is eight and not nine? Bayazid: The bearers of the throne of Allah. [Quraan chapter 69 verse 17: "And they will lift their Lord's throne on themselves on that day, eight persons. "] Rabbi: What is nine and not ten? Bayazid: The villagers of Hadhrat Salih peace be upon him in which the mischief mongers lived. [Qur'aan chapter 27 Verse 48: "And in that city there were nine persons who created mischief on the Earth, and they didn't amend. "] Rabbi: What is ten and not eleven? [IslamCity] Loftiness of Allah

2005-03-06 Thread M. Malhar

They made not a just estimate of Allah...

Allah the Almighty said:
They made not a just estimate of Allah such as is due to Him. And on the
Day of Resurrection the whole of the earth will be grasped by His Hand and
the heavens will be rolled up in His Right Hand. Glorified and Exalted is He
above all that they associate as partners with Him! [Az-Zumar(39):67]

Abdullah bin Mas'ud (Radhiallhu anhu) narrated:
A (Jewish) rabbi came to Allah's Messenger (Sallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and he
said, O Muhammad! We learn that Allah will put all the heavens on one
finger, and the earths on one finger, and the trees on one finger, and the
water and the dust on one finger, and all the other created beings on one
finger. Then He will say, 'I am the King'. Thereupon the prophet (Sallahu
Alaihi Wasallam) smiled so that his premolar teeth became visible, and that
was the confirmation of the rabbi's statement. Then Allah's messenger
(Sallahu Alaihi Wasallam) recited: They made not a just estimate of Allah
such as is due to Him. And on the Day of Resurrection the whole of the earth
will be grasped by His Hand. [Az-Zumar(39):67]

It is stated in an another narration of Muslim:
And the mountains and the trees on one finger. Then He will shake them
while saying., I am the King, I am Allah.

In another version in Al-Bukhari:

Allah will put the heavens on one finger, and the water and the dust on one
finger, and the rest of the creation on one finger.

In Muslim, from Ibn umar (Radhiallhu anhu) in a Marfu' Hadith, it is
narrated:
Allah will roll all the heavens up on the Day of Resurrection and take them
in His Right Hand and then He will say, 'I am the King; where are the
tyrants and where are the arrogant ones (today)?' He would then roll up the
seven earths and take them in His left Hand and say, 'I am the King, where
are the tyrants and where are the arrogant ones (today)?

It is narratede from Ibn Abbas (Radhiallhu anhu) that he said:
The seven heavens and seven earths will be as small in Allah's Hand as a
mustard in one of your hands.

Ibn Jarir (Rahimahullah) said: Iwas told by Yunus: We were informed by Ibn
Wahb: Ibn Zaid said that his father told him that Allah's Messenger (Sallahu
Alaihi Wasallam) said:
Seven heavens are as small as seven dirhams molded in a warrior's shield in
comparison to the Kursi (literally: a footstol) of Allah.

And he (ibn Jarir) said: Abu Dharr (Ghifari) (Radhiallhu anhu) said that he
heard Allah's Messenger (Sallahu Alaihi Wasallam) saying:
Thy Kursi (Allah's Footstool) compared to the Throne (Arsh) is nothing but
like a ring of iron thrown in a vast field.

It is reported that Ibn Mas'ud (Radhiallhu anhu) said:
The distance between first and the second heaven is that of 500 years, and
between each of the seven heavens is also 500 years, and the distance
between seventh heaven to the Kursi (Allah's Footstool) is also 500 years,
and the distance between the Kursi (Allah's Footstool) and the water is
again 500 years. The Throne (Arsh) is above the water and Allah the Almighty
is above the Throne. And nothing is hidden to Allah of your deeds.

This Hadith was reported by Ibn Mahdi from Hammad bin Salamah from Asim from
Zirr from Abdullah (Ibn Mas'ud (Radhiallhu anhu). Al-Hafiz Adh-Dhahabi
(Rahimahullah) stated that the above-mentioned Hadith has been reported
through other channels also.

It is narrated from Abbas bin Abdul-Muttalib (Radhiallhu anhu) that Allah's
Messenger (Sallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said:
Do you know how much the distance between earth and heaven is? We said,
Allah and his Messenger know better. Then he (Sallahu Alaihi Wasallam)
said, The distance between them is 500 years, and the distance between one
heaven to the next is 500 years, and the dimension of each heaven will take
500 years to travel, and there is a sea between the seventh heaven and the
Throne which has between its lowest and highest ends the distance like that
between the heavens and the earth (i.e. 500 years). And Allah the most
Exalted is above that and nothing is secret from Himof the deeds of Bani
Adam (humankind).
(Reported by Abu Dawud and others.)

Taken from the book Kitad At-Tauhid

I don't know why still some Muslims claim or say that Allah Almighty is

No concept lies more firmly embedded in our national
character than the notion that the USA is No. 1,
the greatest. Our broadcast media are, in essence,
continuous advertisements for the brand name America
Is No. 1. Any office seeker saying otherwise would be
committing political suicide. In fact, anyone saying
otherwise will be labeled un-American. We're an
empire, ain't we? Sure we are. An empire without a
manufacturing base. An empire that must borrow $2
billion a day from its competitors in order to
function. Yet the delusion is ineradicable. We're No.
1. Well...this is the country you really live in:

*The United States is 49th in the world in literacy
(the New York Times, Dec. 12, 2004).

*The United States ranked 28th out of 40 countries in
mathematical literacy (NYT, Dec. 12, 2004).

*Twenty percent of Americans think the sun orbits the
earth. Seventeen percent believe the earth revolves
around the sun once a day (The Week, Jan. 7, 2005).

*The International Adult Literacy Survey...found that
Americans with less than nine years of education
'score worse than virtually all of the other
countries' (Jeremy Rifkin's superbly documented book
The European Dream: How Europe's Vision of the Future
Is Quietly Eclipsing the American Dream, p.78).

*Our workers are so ignorant and lack so many basic
skills that American businesses spend $30 billion a
year on remedial training (NYT, Dec. 12, 2004). No
wonder they relocate elsewhere!

*The European Union leads the U.S. in...the number of
science and engineering graduates; public research and
development (RD) expenditures; and new capital
raised (The European Dream, p.70).

*Europe surpassed the United States in the mid-1990s
as the largest producer of scientific literature (The
European Dream, p.70).

*Nevertheless, Congress cut funds to the National
Science Foundation. The agency will issue 1,000 fewer
research grants this year (NYT, Dec. 21, 2004).

*Foreign applications to U.S. grad schools declined 28
percent last year. Foreign student enrollment on all
levels fell for the first time in three decades, but
increased greatly in Europe and China. Last year
Chinese grad-school graduates in the U.S. dropped 56
percent, Indians 51 percent, South Koreans 28 percent
(NYT, Dec. 21, 2004). We're not the place to be
anymore.

*The World Health Organization ranked the countries
of the world in terms of overall health performance,
and the U.S. [was]...37th. In the fairness of health
care, we're 54th. The irony is that the United States
spends more per capita for health care than any other
nation in the world (The European Dream, pp.79-80).
Pay more, get lots, lots less.

*The U.S. and South Africa are the only two developed
countries in the world that do not provide health care
for all their citizens (The European Dream, p.80).
Excuse me, but since when is South Africa a
developed country? Anyway, that's the company we're
keeping.

*Lack of health insurance coverage causes 18,000
unnecessary American deaths a year. (That's six times
the number of people killed on 9/11.) (NYT, Jan. 12,
2005.)

*U.S. childhood poverty now ranks 22nd, or second to
last, among the developed nations. Only Mexico scores
lower (The European Dream, p.81). Been to Mexico
lately? Does it look developed to you? Yet it's the
only developed country to score lower in childhood
poverty.

*Twelve million American families--more than 10
percent of all U.S. households--continue to struggle,
and not always successfully, to feed themselves.
Families that had members who actually went hungry at
some point last year numbered 3.9 million (NYT, Nov.
22, 2004).

*The United States is 41st in the world in infant
mortality. Cuba scores higher (NYT, Jan. 12, 2005).

*Women are 70 percent more likely to die in childbirth
in America than in Europe (NYT, Jan. 12, 2005).

*The leading cause of death of pregnant women in this
country is murder (CNN, Dec. 14, 2004).

*Of the 20 most developed countries in the world, the
U.S. was dead last in the growth rate of total
compensation to its workforce in the 1980s In the
1990s, the U.S. average compensation growth rate grew
only slightly, at an annual rate of about 0.1 percent
(The European Dream, p.39). Yet Americans work longer
hours per year than any other industrialized country,
and get less vacation time.

*Sixty-one of the 140 biggest companies on the Global
Fortune 500 rankings are European, while only 50 are
U.S. companies (The European Dream, p.66). In a
recent survey of the world's 50 best companies,
conducted by Global Finance, all but one were
European (The European Dream, p.69).

world today are European In the

[IslamCity] THE COMING END OF THE AMERICAN SUPERPOWER

2005-03-06 Thread assalamu alaykum

The Last Waltz?
The Coming End of the American Superpower
By PAUL CRAIG ROBERTS
Counterpunch
March 1, 2005
http://www.counterpunch.org/roberts03012005.html

The US economy is headed toward crisis, and the
political leadership of the country--if it can be
called leadership--is preoccupied with nonexistent
weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East.

The US economy is failing. The afflictions are
serious. They could be fatal even if diagnosed and
treated. America is losing the purchasing power of its
currency and its ability to create middle class jobs.

The dollar's sharp decline and projections of
continuing trade and budgetary red ink are undermining
the dollar's role as reserve currency. A number of
central banks have announced that they will be
diversifying their currency holdings and will not be
buying dollars at the same rate as in the past.

This will put more pressure on the dollar. At some
point the flight will begin. Instead of buying fewer
dollars, central banks will sell dollars hoping to get
out before the dollar hits bottom.

Suddenly, the advantage of being the reserve currency
becomes a nightmare as the world's accumulations of
dollars are brought to market. An enormous supply and
weak demand mean a very low exchange rate for the once
almighty US dollar.

Overnight those cheap goods in Wal-Mart, which are the
no-think economist's facile justification for
Wal-Mart's decimation of communities, small businesses
and employment, shoot up in price.

Interest rates will escalate as the government
struggles to finance its endless red ink. Heavily
indebted Americans with adjustable rate mortgages will
attempt to sell homes just as rising mortgage rates
reduce buyers. Real estate assets, the rising value of
which have been keeping the economy going, will give
back gains.

The US has lost its ability to create middle class
jobs or for that matter any jobs. During the last four
years the US has experienced a net loss of 760,000
private sector jobs (January 2001 - January 2005).
Think what this means for graduating classes and
people coming of age to enter the work force.

Moreover, the composition of jobs has changed away
from high-value-added, high-productivity jobs in
tradable goods and services toward lower productivity
domestic service jobs that cannot be outsourced.

Even here in this last remaining area of employment
for Americans, the US work force is losing job
opportunities to foreign nurses and school teachers
brought in on H-1b work visas as a result of budgetary
pressures on local school budgets and hospitals.

No-think economists and politicians continue to
propose unemployment insurance and education as
remedies for the jobs problem. These proposals are
mindless to say the least. The same incentive to
outsource holds for all tradable skills. If truth be
known, job outsourcing and offshore production sound
the death bell for US higher education.

Americans unable to find jobs in export and
import-competitive sectors find themselves searching
for jobs in nontradable domestic services, where their
inflow into those labor markets is augmented by
illegal immigrants and foreigners on H-1b visas.
Obviously, the pressure on wages is downward.

No-think economists explain away the difficulties as a
globalization adjustment that will require Americans
to curtail their consumption of imported goods. These
economists are ignorant of American's dependence on
imported manufactured goods. Even American brand name
goods are made abroad in whole or in part. Tightening
the belt will mean much more than cutting out foreign
made luxuries.

The dollars' decline will drive up the price of all
inputs except US labor which is being substituted out
of production functions and replaced with foreign
labor.

Oblivious to reality, the Bush administration has
proposed a Social Security privatization that will
cost $4.5 trillion in borrowing over the next 10 years
alone! America has no domestic savings to absorb this
debt, and foreigners will not lend such enormous sums
to a country with a collapsing currency--especially a
country mired in a Middle East war running up hundreds
of billions of dollars in war debt.

A venal and self-important Washington establishment
combined with a globalized corporate mentality have
brought an end to America's rising living standards.
America's days as a superpower are rapidly coming to
an end. Isolated by the nationalistic unilateralism of
the neoconservatives who control the Bush
administration, the US can expect no sympathy or help
from former allies and rising new powers.

[IslamCity] US used mustard gas, nerve gas, napalm in Fallujah

2005-03-06 Thread Wolfgang Geist

U.S. used banned weapons in Fallujah – Health ministry
Aljazeera.com

March 3, 2005An official in Iraq’s health ministry said that the U.S. used banned weapons in FallujahDr. Khalid ash-Shaykhli, an official at Iraq’s health ministry, said that the U.S. military used internationally banned weapons during its deadly offensive in the city of Fallujah.Dr. ash-Shaykhli was assigned by the ministry to assess the health conditions in Fallujah following the November assault there. He said that researches, prepared by his medical team, prove that U.S. occupation forces used internationally prohibited substances, including mustard gas, nerve gas, and other burning chemicals in their attacks in the war-torn city. The health official announced his findings at a news conference in the health ministry building in Baghdad. The press conference was attended by more than 20 Iraqi and foreign media networks, including the Iraqi ash-Sharqiyah TV network, the Iraqi as-Sabah
newspaper, the U.S. Washington Post and the Knight-Ridder service.Dr. ash-Shaykhli started the conference by reporting the current health conditions of the Fallujah residents. He said that the city is still suffering from the effects of chemical substances and other types of weapons that cause serious diseases over the long term.Asked whether limited nuclear weapons were also used by U.S. forces in Fallujah, Dr. ash-Shaykhli said; “What I saw during our research in Fallujah leads me to me believe everything that has been said about that battle.“I absolutely do not exclude their use of nuclear and chemical substances, since all forms of nature were wiped out in that city. I can even say that we found dozens, if not hundreds, of stray dogs, cats, and birds that had perished as a result of those gasses.”Dr. ash-Shaykhli promised to send the findings of the researches to responsible bodies inside Iraq and abroad.Fallujah residents said napalm
gas was used During the U.S. offensive, Fallujah residents reported that they saw “melted” bodies in the city, which suggests that U.S. forces used napalm gas, a poisonous cocktail of polystyrene and jet fuel that makes the human body melt.In November, Labour MPs in the UK demanded Prime Minister Tony Blair to confront the Commons over the use of napalm gas in Fallujah.Furious critics have also demanded that Blair threatens the U.S. to pullout British forces from Iraq unless the U.S. stops using the world’s deadliest weapon. The United Nations banned the use of the napalm gas against civilians in 1980 after pictures of a naked wounded girl in Vietnam shocked the world. The United States, which didn't endorse the convention, is the only nation in the world still using the deadly weapon.:: Article nr. 10104 sent on 03-mar-2005

Assalam Alaikum W.R.W.b.
This is personal e-mail : Your views – suggestions –criticism most
welcome to
add to the Part II of the same.

EDUCATIONAL REFORM IN THRU MADRASAS.

Based on an article published in Milli Gazette
(dt:15-02-05) on Education System in
Madrasaas, by Mo. Burhanduddin Qasmi of Merkazul Maarif Edu.
Research Center.#

I have written a rejoinder to the same.
Part I to be published soon in next issue of
M.G. This is based on my experience with many
of madrasas visited by me and mainly having conducted programs
for `Darul Umoor' Mysore.
The model needs to be implemented all over
the madrasas.#

The Part II to the same is to be supplemented with the road map and
NEED for CHANGE in Syllabus and / or affiliation of The Madrasas
with local academic school/college or employing the
Qualified `graduates' of Madrasas in Indian Muslim Schools or An
Islamic Schools. For this the similar-academic education/technical/
commercial-economics/ computer science and of course `English' be
taught in the madrasas also, so that either side can understand each
other.#
