How thirty people ate in the dark

Sheikh Abul Hasan Antaki (RA.) lived in Raye, a city
in Khorassan. One day, it chanced that the Sheikh had
more than thirty guests, while he did not have
sufficient bread with him. He could not bake more
bread, for, it was late at night. So, he broke the few
loaves he had into small pieces and spread them over a
piece of cloth, which he had laid before his guests.
When they were going to start eating, the Sheikh put
out the lamp. Everybody seemed to start eating and one
could hear the sound of their chewing. After a while,
the sound stopped and it was presumed that everybody
had finished eating. The Sheikh then lighted the lamp
and they saw that all the pieces were lying untouched;
nobody had eaten anything. Because the food was
little, everyone was thinking about his brothers next
to him and wanted them to eat instead.

[IslamCity] Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) on Qadiyanis

2005-04-09 Thread adil naveed

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) on Qadiyanis
by Zakir Ghadially
Q: Who are Qadiyanis?

A: Qadiyanis also known as Mirzai, Ahmadi, Lahori,
etc. are a sect of people who do not believe that
prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was the last prophet. The
founder of the sect Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (1835 - 1908)
claimed to be the Messiah whose advent has been
foretold by the Holy prophet of Islam and whose advent
was awaited by Jews, Christians and Muslims. The
mainstream muslims do not consider Qadiyanis muslims
(see below).

Q: Where and how did this all begin?

A: Begun in India, inspired and actively supported by
the British colonial power. In the mid nineteenth
century the British thought that Islam as the Deen of
Allah was dead, but the War of Independence of 1857
and the leading role of Muslims through the spirit of
Jihad, scared the British. They actively sought an
alternative to real Islam. Among the many things they
did, one was the foundation of a new religion in the
name of Islam by the hands of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad
Qadiyani. The British gave Mirza full support and an
outline; and he filled in the details.

Q: What is the background of Mirza Ghulam Qadiyani?

A: He said that his name was Ghulam Ahmad, son of
Ghulam Murtaza, belonging to the caste of Mughal
Barlas who came to India from Samarqand. Later he
changed his origins and claimed to be a Persian. He
again had a change of mind and claimed to belong to
the progeny of Fatima bint Muhammad(S). He was born in
1839-40 in Qadiyan, District of Gordaspur, Punjab,
India in a family who were subservient to the British
and played a heroic role in defending the British in
the War of 1857. Ghulam remained proud of his and his
family's services to the British crown and advised his
followers to remain loyal to the British Government
and the West. Qadiyanis, the followers of Ghulam
Ahmad, established good liaison with the State of
Israel immediately after its establishment and Israel
gave them full protection.

Q: When did he claim to be a Prophet?

A: The 1870s was a period of debates between Hindus
against Muslims and Christians against Muslims.
Muslims did not start those debates but Muslim
scholars were winning all of them and winning the
hearts of the Muslim masses. Ghulam saw an opening to
gain popularity and taught himself the art of debating
against Hindus and became popular by 1877. In 1880 he
published his first book Baraheen-i-Ahmadiyyah and
established himself as a writer. By 1884 he added
three more volumes to the same book and in 1885 he
claimed himself to be a Mujaddid, a revivalist of
Islam. In 1891 he claimed himself to be the Promised
Mehdi and a Promised Messiah. During this period he
insisted that he was not a prophet declaring that such
a claim would make him a kaafir and a liar. Well! In
1901 Ghulam declared, by Allah in Whose grip is my
soul it is He Who commissioned me and named me a
prophet and he declared that Allah gave him three
hundred thousand. Note that Allah's true messengers
and prophets received their assignment suddenly not
step-wise like Ghulam. By Ghulam's own declarations,
now he became a Kaafir and a liar. (Abstract from
QADIYANIAT, AN ANALYTICAL SURVEY, by Ehsan Ilahi
Zaheer.)

Q: Why do mainstream Muslims not consider Qadiyanis
muslims?

A: As seen in above question, according to Ghulam he
was a Kafir. It is the same according to all muslims.
Muslims consider that prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was the
last prophet and anybody else claiming otherewise is
an imposter and a unbeliever. So by that standards,
Qadiyanis are not muslims.

Q: Did prophet Muhammad (pbuh) say that he is the last
prophet?

A: It has been said in the holy Quran and in hadiths
that prophet Muhammed (pbuh) is the last prophet. Here
are some of the references proving that.

O people ! Muhammad has no sons among ye men, but
verily, he is the Apostle of God and the last in the
line of Prophets. And God is Aware of everything.
(Surah Al Ahzab: 40)

Here Allah tells us clearly that prophet Mohammad
(pbuh) is the last prophet and there would be no one
after him. Similarly the following hadiths say the
same thing.

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) observed: The tribe of Israel
was guided by prophets. When a prophet passed away,
another prophet succeeded him. But no prophet will
come after me; only caliphs will succeed me.
(Bukhari, Kitab-ul-Manaqib).

The Prophet of Allah (PBUH) affirmed: The chain of
Messengers and Prophets has come to an end. There
shall be no Messenger nor Prophet after me.
(Tirmidhi, Kitab-ur-Rouya Babu Zahab-un- Nubuwwa,
Musnad Ahmad, Marwiyat-Anas bin Malik)

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) observed: I am Muhammad, I am
Ahmad, I am the effacer and infidelity shall be erased
through me; I am the assembler. People shall be
assembled on Doomsday after my time. (In other words
Doom is my only successor.) And I am the last in the
sense that no prophet hall succeed me. (Bukhari and
Muslim, Kitab-ul-Fada'il, Bab: Asmaun-Nabi; Tirmidhi,
Kitab-ul- Adab, Bab:

Dear brothers/sisters
I read the hadees regarding dogs. But what baffles
me is the verses of Surah Kuhf where the youths who slept for years had a dog, a
companion. If Allah has approved the companionship of a dog then why is
heforbidding it for us? Besides there is also a hadees where a woman of
ill-fame is rewarded for quenching the thirst of a dog.
How authentic are hadees one cites on the question

[IslamCity] Islam - A Religion of Terror ?

Islam - A Religion of Terror ?
Invitation to Islam, Issue 5, October 1998
A bomb goes off in a marketplace in Jerusalem. A suicide bomber launches himself into a bus full of women and children in Tel Aviv. Foreign tourists get massacred at a holiday resort in Luxor, Egypt. Villages upon villages get annihilated in Algeria. The list of events worldwide which have come to symbolise the 'Islamic terror' are endless. From the times in the 70's and 80's when Pan Am and TWA aeroplanes would be highjacked, to the mid 80's in war torn Lebanon where Americans and Europeans would be held as hostages for years; all such incidents have come to be identified with the religion of Islam. Such incidents from past and present have undoubtedly affected Muslims worldwide and more so in the West. Any Muslim, who wants to practice his/her religion and expresses the pious desire to live under the banner of Islam, is labelled a fundamentalist or extremist. Any Muslim man who walks down a busy street in London or Paris (and Paris moreso) with a beard and a scarf on his head, is looked upon as being a terrorist who's probably got an AK47 stashed somewhere on his person. Muslim women who are veiled can't go anywhere in
the Western world without being taunted as being oppressed or being mad (for covering up). However, are such beliefs and opinions about Islam really justified? READ MORE

[IslamCity] Marriage - what's it all about?

2005-04-09 Thread 03.05 Noushad T. V.
Title: Marriage - what's it all about?

In the Name of Almighty Allah
Most Beneficent Most Merciful

Assalamualaykum
Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu

O you who believe! Do not make Haram
the good of things
which Almighty Allah has made Halal for you, and do not
transgress; indeed, Allah does not like transgressors.
[Surah Al Ma'idah verse 87].

Wa Ba'd:

When the wedding celebrations are over and husband and
wife settle down in their new lives many find it is not what they hoped for or
expected. As the euphoria and novelty runs out and gives way to routine and normality,
the marriage relationship becomes strained as both spouses struggle to get
through life. Constant arguments, bickering and unhappiness pervades the
atmosphere with little or no hope of a resolution. This problem in the marital
life is so widely felt that we would scarcely find a person who does not know
of a close family member or relative who is not in this predicament. Whilst it
is inevitable that not every marriage will succeed or be without its fair share
of problems, the marital discord and misery we see today cannot simply be
attributed to the incompatibility which can sometimes occur between two people.

Rather a deeper study into the widespread problems and misery we witness will
reveal that it is due to a lack of the correct criteria and thoughts - this is
the cause of disharmony and the lack of tranquillity between spouses. If one
were to dissect the criteria and thoughts being used by Muslims one would
find that generally speaking they are caught between two reference points. Do
they follow the customs and traditions of their elders in marriage and marital
affairs or do they embrace western values? The older generation has by and
large stuck to tradition; but the younger generation growing up is
increasingly rejecting tradition in favour of a more western lifestyle.

As a result we find a whole range of different, and at times contradictory,
criteria being used to regulate married life. On one side of the spectrum we
have the traditional culture. Here we see the prevalence of the criteria of Sharam and Izza (shame and dignity). These have their
roots in Islam but over time they have lost their Islamic character and have
become subject to people's whims and desires. This is why we see the
inconsistent and oppressive nature of their application. For instance, zinah is and should be viewed as a
loathsome Kabeerah (great) sin;
however we often see that if a man commits it then it can be forgiven and
quietly ignored as just something that young men do.

However if a woman was found guilty of committing this then she would be
ostracised and rejected because she has brought dishonour and shame to the
family. Therefore the true understanding of the sin of Zinah has been lost in the blur and haze of
tradition and a contradictory application is being used. A similar
contradiction from traditional values is the view that a young girl mixing with
foreign (Ajnabi) men is
unacceptable. But on the other hand no shame is felt when the same girl is
forced to marry a man without her consent and approval or even sometimes
against her will.

On the other hand we have what can only be described as half-way marriages
where the concepts and criteria are a jumble of traditional and western values
but adopted according to the capitalist criteria of benefit and individual
freedom. For example, in such marriages it is not acceptable that the wife
would flirt with other men but it is acceptable for her to mix with men, being
uncovered and showing her beauty. We also find men carrying the western concept
of not settling down when young and delaying their marriage until they've had a
good time. And once in their late twenties or early thirties they will do their
social and religious duty to get married. Also we now see the western style of
courtship which means finding out if one is compatible or not by dating or
getting to know each other. Hence, the ubiquitous demand of friendship leading
to marriage.

The West offers individual freedom as the progressive basis of life, and for
many Muslims in the West this has become the preferred basis for marriage over
tradition. By individual freedom what's meant is that an individual is
completely free in how he or she lives his or her life. Rather, turning to
freedom by rejecting tradition is like jumping out of the frying pan and into
the fire. How can the West claim to offer the alternative when its criteria of
individual freedom and benefit which by establishing sensual gratification as
the paramount concern has led to the misery of millions of people? If we take a
quick look at the West's record we find that in their societies the top five
problems in the social and marital life are:

* Mistrust and Adultery - 70% of American wives commit adultery within 5 years
of marriage.
* Divorce - one in three end up in divorce.
* Rape - 167 women are raped every day in the UK.
* Wife battery - a battery

[IslamCity] The Mother's influence on the children

2005-04-09 Thread Islahonline

ABC 123 [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
The
Mother's influence on the children
The most prevailing influence anything can
have on the child is the influence of the mother. Hence the mother is required
to develop virtuous morals and character. Don’t underplay any action of the
child even if it seems trivial. You should be well conscious of the child’s
activities within the home and beyond as well. However, the child should not be
aware that he is under surveillance as this would hamper his natural development
and he won’t be able to come out of himself. Similarly, when you see something
in his possession that was not given by you or his father or any other relative,
make sure you delve into the source of that item. Some parents wholly believe
their children when they claim they found it on the road or obtained it from a
friend. The parents avoid the trouble of making further enquiries and consider
their duty done. Whereas it is a natural instinct that if a child, Allah Ta'ala
forbid, stole the item he is bound to make such false claims to protect himself
from humiliation. It is also natural that when the child realizes that his
parent or guardian is not very meticulous about his inquiries then the child is
bound to plummet further into a life of criminality.
Worse than this is when the child is assisted
or encouraged by the parent to engage in theft. Undoubtedly the child will
become more entrenched in this crime and he is bound to be entangled in a life
of vice and criminality.
A Muslim court once handed down sentence to a
thief. As his hand was about to be amputated, he ragingly addressed the people
around him saying: “Before amputating my hand
amputate my mother’s tongue. When I pilfered an egg the very first time in my
life from my neighbour’s house, my mother failed to admonish me. She didn’t even
ask me to return the egg to the neighbour. In fact, she started chirping in
happiness and said: “I praise the Almighty that today my son has turned out to
be a perfect man.” If my mother didn’t have such a twittering tongue, I wouldn’t
have been a criminal of society today."
An incident pertaining
to this topic is narrated in the books of Hadith. One night, Hadrat ‘Umar
(Radhiallaahu Anhu) was on his usual rounds around Madinah when he came across a
house and overheard the following conversation: “Daughter! Add on a bit of water
to the milk.” On hearing more closely, he realized that mother and daughter are
engaged in a dispute over diluting the milk with water. Upon the mother asking
the daughter to add water, the daughter replied: “This is an offense. The Caliph
has vehemently forbade such an action.” The mother countered: “Where will the
Caliph be able to see us here?” What a startling response the daughter offered.
She said: “Then where is Allah?” In other words, Allah Ta’ala is watching us. On
hearing this reply, Hadrat ‘Umar (Radhiallaahu Anhu) returned home, went up to
his son ‘Aasim and asked him to marry this girl. He subsequently married her.
>From the progeny of this union a great personality like ‘Umar bin ‘Abdul ‘Azîz
was born – a personality whose achievements can never be forgotten by the
Islâmic world.
On the basis of the aforementioned points we
merely wish to drive home the fact that a mother has dynamic influence over the
child. If the mother is pious the child will also be inclined to piety and if
the mother has mean habits or evil character then these will surely be conveyed
to the child.
How wonderfully a poet puts it when he says:
'The grass that grows in the orchard is very
different to the grass that grows in the jungle.
What hope of
excellence can we entertain from children suckled by deficient
women?'
The Sahâbah (Radhiallaahu Anhum) and the
Tâbi‘în (RA) who were holders of exceptional virtues, inherited these virtues
from their mothers. Let us mention a few of them here:
1. Hadrat Zubair bin ‘Awwâm (Radhiallaahu
Anhu) is highly indebted to his mother Hadrat Safiyyah bintu ‘Abdul Muttalib
(Radhiallaahu Anha). She was responsible for moulding his character and
morals.
2. Hadrat ‘Abdullâh, Munzir and ‘Urwah
(Radhiallaahu Anhuma) all the sons of Hadrat Zubair (Radhiallaahu Anhu) were the
harvest of the seeds planted by their mother Hadrat Asmâ bintu Abu Bakr
(Radhiallaahu Anhu). Each one of them turned out to be a distinctive model of
perfection.
3. Hadrat ‘Alî (Radhiallaahu Anhu) was
trained with outstanding morals and wisdom at the hands of his mother Fâtimah
bintu Asad.
4. Hadrat ‘Abdullâh bin J‘afar (Radhiallaahu
Anhu) the most charitable soul of the Arabs and the most moralistic of the youth
was also brought up by his mother Asmâ bintu ‘Umais (Radhiallaahu Anhu). She
shaped him on the outstanding morals and character she herself
possessed.
5. Hadrat Mu‘âwiyah (Radhiallaahu Anhu)
inherited from his mother Hindah (Radhiallaahu Anhu) certain skills and talents
which he was unable to acquire from his father. When

[IslamCity] OUR CHILDREN ARE THE FUTURE

2005-04-09 Thread Islahonline

ABC 123 [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

OUR CHILDREN
ARE THE FUTURE
A man came to Malik ibn Nabiy asking for advice with his
daughter's education. Malik asked him, 'How old is she?' 'One month,' he
replied. 'You missed the train,' he said.
Ibn Nabiy later commented, 'I thought I
was exaggerating, but when I looked closer, I found what I said to be correct.
When an infant cries and his mother hastens to offer him her breast, he learns
that crying is the means to achieve his goals, and grows up with that
conviction. Later on, when his enemies beat him up, he hastens to the UN
Security Council for a crying session. He truly thinks that crying will get him
his rights back.'
A child is a trust in the hands of his
parents. His pure hearts is a precious gem. If he is taught goodness, and gets
accustomed to it, he will grow to be happy in this world and in the Hereafter.
If he is neglected, and gets accustomed to evil, he will be lost. Ibnul Qayyim
said, 'If you consider the causes of bad behaviour in children, you will in
general find that the parents are the main cause.'
Allah ordered the parents to give the
proper education to their children, 'O you who
believe! Ward off from yourselves and your families a Fire whose fuel is men and
stones, over which are appointed angels stern and severe who disobey not the
Commands they receive from Allah, but do that which they are commanded.'
(66:6). Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam)
said, 'Allah, Subhaanahu Wata'aala, will ask every
shepherd about his flock: Did you safeguard it or did you neglect it? Until the
man will be asked about his household.' (Ibn Habbaan) He, also, said: 'Any
servant of Allah who is trusted with a flock and does not allot it some advice,
will not smell the fragrance of Paradise.' (Agreed
Upon)
The importance of education should even
be more emphasised in these times when falsehood is so widespread. If the
parents do not rescue their children with a strong Islamic education, the
children will melt in the pot, and may join the ranks of those who wage war
against Allah, His Messenger and the believers.
The Sahaaba (Radhiallaahu Anhu) took this great duty
of children education at heart. They harshly reprimanded those who give more
attention to the grown ups than to children. Amr ibn al-Aas saw a group of men
sitting next to the Ka'abah while they ordered the children to keep away from
their gathering. He told them, 'Do not do that! Let them join you and be near
you and give them guidance. They may be young today, but they will be adults
tomorrow, as we were children yesterday and adults today.' Ibn Muflih commented
on this saying, 'This, not doubt, is true. Knowledge in childhood is etched in
the mind, therefore, it is important to pay attention to the children,
especially the alert, intelligent ones, who show eagerness to acquire knowledge.
Their young age, poverty or physical weakness should not be taken as a pretext
to prevent them from the proper attention they deserve.'

2. THE INTELLECTUAL SITUATION IN THE WORLD OF ISLAM

BY Muhammad Fazl-ur-Rahman Ansari

During the eighteenth century and even during the nineteenth the answer to
the Question posed in the last Section would have been a simple affair. It is,
however, not so now.

Ever since the advent of the Western culture in Muslim lands, which
followed fast upon the heels of Islam’s political landslide in the nineteenth
century, the demoralized world of Islam has been increasingly permitting itself
to be absorbed by the materialistic and anti-religious Western thought and
ideals. The basic cause of this passivity was that much before the Western
nations subjugated the Muslim lands, various factors—moral, social, political
and intellectual—had already continued to render passive, if not, to actually
paralyze, Muslim thought and action. The Western thought, pulsating with all
the vigor of youth, was not confronted with the vigorous and all-conquering
dynamism of the early days of Islam but with an outworn and moribund medieval
outlook.

It is not the purpose of the book to discuss in any detail the causes of
Muslim passivity in the face of Western thought. We are concerned here only
with the results, which, alas! have been most tragic. After one hundred years
of slow poisoning, the condition of the Muslim world can be described today
only in terms of disintegration, confusion and chaos, the struggle for
political stability, economic advancement, industrial progress, military
preparedness, intellectual growth and religious revival notwithstanding.

From the point of view the present dimension, Muslims all over the world
can be broadly classified into four categories, which have been brought into
existence by the currents and cross-currents of the internal weaknesses and the
external impact of Western thought. These categories are:

  (1) The progressive and enlightened Muslims who have learnt to understand and
appreciate Islam in the light of modern knowledge and problems. They have an
unshakeable faith in Islam, which is based on understanding, and they practice
it intelligently. This provides them with complete immunity against all
anti-Islamic influences, whether Marxist or otherwise. These upholders of
dynamic orthodoxy are the future hope of Islam.

 (2) The old-fashioned Muslims who refuse to come out of the intellectual
atmosphere of eight hundred years ago. Their view of Islam is marred by certain
wrong notions based on obscurantism and misguided conservatism, which confines
their religious outlook mostly to rituals and basic morals, renders their
practice of Islam imperfect and lands them in innocent

forms of compromise with un-Islamic ideals. They have a staunch faith, but
because they do not possess a clear view and a correct understanding of Islam’s
economic system, political outlook, and social ethos, they are capable of being
misguided on that score by the glamour of un-Islamic slogans and movements.

(3)The “believing” but “non-practicing” Muslims and the “indifferent”
whose religious consciousness is defective and for whom Islam is only a
historical legacy—a part of their national heritage which, like the
archaeological remains of the past, might be respected vaguely but which is not
meant to be adopted as a living guidance governing the practical issues

of life. Educated in irreligious Western ideals, brought up in an atmosphere
alien to Islam, and deprived of the opportunity to imbibe Islamic teachings,
they are hardly distinguishable from the non-Muslims in their practical lives
except in the

matter of what might be termed “Muslim nationalism” which, combined with a vague
belief in God, they uphold in varying degrees. They have thus only a formal
faith in the Islamic religion, while in all the practical affairs of life they
look to the West for inspiration and guidance. Though a small minority, they
wield considerable influence in all Muslim countries because of their major
share in the political life and administration where modern Western education
alone counts today.

(4)The atheistic and anti-religious people who bear Muslim names only
because their Muslim parents named them so. They imbibe atheism either because
they become entangled in grossly immoral ways of life and thus lose all sense
of nobleness and spirituality, or because they receive one-sided education in
the materialistic

philosophy of Western atheistic thinkers and are captivated by the idea or, in
the case of those who are not very highly educated, because they consider it
fashionable to swim with the latest currents of Western thought which are
aggressively atheistic. In

A Different ChildhoodA Ten Year Journey to Islam

By Anisa Kissoon

March 20, 2005

Speaker’s Corner in Hyde Park.
I am a 26-year-old woman from a British -Caribbean background. I was brought up in the UK and currently live there. My journey started at the ripe old age of five. One day I ran away from Sunday school because the teacher was trying to convince me that God was really one but was also three at the same time. I didn’t believe him. I was not old enough to question and debate so I just rebelled and ran away. That was the end of Sunday school for me.
Throughout my early teenage years I visited many churches including the Catholic Church, the Seventh Day Adventist Church, the Mormons, and the Jehovah witnesses. I found that what they all had in common was that they professed monotheism but actually believed in more than one God. I found it strange that grown up people could think so illogically. At that time Islam was not on my mind because I had come to think it was an Asian religion. When I was a young teenager I didn’t know anything about Islam. As West Indians we always looked at Asians as having strange religions—idol worship and so on. So I ended up putting Islam into that category. At that time I felt Islam was not an option for me.
When I was eleven, my brother was learning about Islam. I found out in later years that he had actually embraced the religion but kept it somewhat secret. He always told me not to drink alcohol, date, or take drugs and so on. I listened to him and so was kept away from many dangers. The fact that he instilled these moral values in me was the beginning of a foundation of Islam in my heart. I had already stopped eating pork and in my heart I always believed there was only One God.
I was a person who spoke out and fought for what I believed. I had a positive view of life—taking care of the environment, speaking out against racism, and so on, and this led me to understand Islamic principles and later to recognize them when I read the Qur’an. Then one day my friend told me I should go to Hyde Park where they have a place for people to speak freely on any subject. The Muslims were a common sight there talking to the public about Islam. On that particular day Abdul Raheem Green, from London Central Mosque, was speaking and my heart was touched. He spoke about Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in such a beautiful, simple, and attractive way that he had all my attention. I already believed in the other prophets. I knew they never sought the world and he explained that Muhammad (peace be upon him) was like them but the difference was that he was the final prophet in the long
chain of prophethood that had begun with Adam, the first man (peace be upon him). Therefore, Muhammad (peace be upon him) concluded the divine message to mankind.
I already had belief in One God and I understood the importance of morality, so learning about the significance of the Qur’an and the role of Muhammad (peace be upon him) sealed my understanding. It was simple and understandable to me. That night I decided that I didn’t want to die in a state of hesitation, so I determined to make the Shahadah. My friend’s brother had become a Muslim at 17 years of age, so I went to her house to see her brother and make Shahadah. In my own little world I did not realize that I had already become a Muslim in my heart so my Shahadah simply confirmed what I already was.

They didn’t understand that Christ was already in my heart but he is loved my me as a prophet and messenger of Allah; not in the way they loved him.

I started attending lessons held by Abdul Raheem Green. I learnt more about the basic beliefs in Islam and the importance of Tawhid and the significance of these beliefs in everyday life. The lessons were very spiritual and motivated us to learn more and do more. From there I started to talk about Islam to my family and in my school. At school I started a prayer room and there we used to have discussions at lunchtime. From this many students were attracted to Islam. A lot of the influence came from the seeds my brother had planted in my heart long ago. The advice he gave us to keep away from harmful immoral actions and behavior held me in good stead until I came to understand Islam more fully. When he was just 12 years old my brother was already praying and reading Qur’an even though no one else in the family was Muslims. He influenced me so much.
The main obstacles I faced were peer pressure from the West Indian community particularly when it came to hijab. Even though I wasn’t wearing a full hijab the male teachers in my school would pressure me and belittle me in an attempt to take it off. Most of the kids at school that turned to Islam through the prayer room and study circle were born Muslims who had lost their identity, as well as some who reverted.
I used to attend a performing arts school but when I accepted Islam I stopped performing in front of men and

Konu : Raping Iraqi girls

Peace be upon you

Peace, a word used for greeting and good gesture,
refers to a state of
tranquility, quiet, freedom of civil disturbance,
security and order. If we
to use it in political terms, it refers to an
agreement to end hostilities.

Nonetheless, King George W Bush is redefining the term
to mean, surrender,
to yield to their unequivocal power, unjust possession
of a sovereign
country and control of its people and wealth.

I ask you to examine the true meaning of peace and see
which of its multiple
meaning exist in nowadays occupied Iraq?

Democracy, freedom, peace, fighting terrorism. These
are just a handful of
words that no longer mean to us anything but subdue,
subjugation, and
illegal possession of, occupation and control of our
country, people and
wealth.

Freedom, democracy and Peace.. Let’s see what they
mean to 14 years old
Nadia.

Nadia, if you have not heard of her, was arrested and
forced into Abu
Graib’s prison few months ago.

She is 14 years old.

She is a child in the true human being eyes.

She is a woman in the eye of savage American rapists.

She was raped, sodomized, and tortured to finally find
herself on the side
of a deserted road carrying a fetus in her womb she
had no choice and was
not ready to bear. On her baby face and innocent body
she is carrying the
physical and psychological deep wounds that reemerge
every time she realizes
she is still alive.

Nadia had simple, innocent, childish and naive
questions. But she is a child
and she wants to know what happened to her. She wrote
to all world human
organizations, but with no answer.

Can you answer her questions?

Was she guilty?

Were all those girls who were thrown into prison of
torment (Abu Graib’s)?

Did she know anything about weapons of mass
destruction?

Was she a danger (on the region)?

Nadia is nothing but a child who had dreams of
education, work and building
a family. She thought she would be helpful in building
her country.

Now, she is scattered flesh of once called human.

After the democracy and freedom that was carried to
her by the occupation
tanks, she is nothing but ruins and shredded human
flesh. Her innocent child
image has been transformed into a distorted one. She
can’t see the future,
as it is impossible to see oneself face in a scattered
mirror.

Maybe you wonder, why do I stand here today to talk
about these facts, which
I can talk in private with a friend. I do so because
the media is woefully
ignoring it. The media, deliberately, is not putting
the tragic side of
occupation on the spotlight. Instead, it brings
forward few Iraqi warlords
and beneficiaries (collaborators) to fabricate stories
about a fake free
Iraq. Those (collaborators) insist that there is a
local terrorism, turning
a blind eye on the real terrorism being carried out by
the occupation
itself. This occupation is the terrorism itself. An
occupation that arrests,
detains, tortures, rapes women and children, sodomizes
men and annihilates,
kills the wounded and forces the dead to stand up and
”say hi” as we all
witnessed that lately in the Swedish television.

I stand before you here today to share the grief of
thousands of Iraqi women
prisoners, not to mention the thousands of men, as we
all know of Abu
Graib’s

The pictures from Abu Graib’s are conclusive and
definite evidence that what
is happening in Iraq is a true humanitarian disaster
carried out not by
nature but by USA.

WE should stop this genocide.

WE should stop USA that came to enslave Iraqis not to
free them.

Talking about Huda, Fatima and Nadia is a way to
answer all those who accuse
us of being terrorists or we support terrorism.

Danger of civil war is pure myth.

We as Iraqis including Kurds, Arabs, Muslims,
Christians, Shiite and Sunnis
all lived in harmony for centuries. There was never a
reordered incidence of
civil war in the history of Iraq. The civil was is a
technique that
occupation uses to market civil war smiting and
justify its stay in Iraq.

We sure condemn the killings of our people of all
sects and ethnic groups.
Occupation is responsible for these crimes.

We do support our right to resist occupation and free
our land.

And I think it is a just cause for any nation under
occupation to resist.

As I stand in this place, I would like to read these
questions to you:

Is it not our right to live freely in our free
country?

Iraq is a member in United Nations.

Is it not our right as Iraqis to use our national
wealth to build and
develop our country?

Is it not our right to live peacefully in our cities,
towns and villages
without fear of being arrested, killed, raped or
rocked by explosions, that
one least can say that they serve the occupation and
undermine what is left
of our country?

Is it not our right to protect our civilizations,
which

By Asim Ranginwala Your heart beats faster. Trying to avoid eye contact is not going to work. The victim is onto you. Your palms are sweaty, and you try to crack a smile to break the tension, but that doesn’t work either. You see him try to avoid you, almost like two positive sides of magnets, but you studied his movement patterns for half a block now and you’re ready to intercept his sway. He’s within arms length, this is your chance. You extend your arm to reach the prey. Using the wrist action you’ve been practicing for a while, you’ve put the bait out there. Now, the waiting game… will he take the bait? The victim’s arm starts moving in the right direction. You can almost hear Chris Berman exclaiming “AND LOOK AT HIM GO! HE – COULD – GO – ALL – THE – WAY!” And there it is! You have just handed out your first Islamic pamphlet. The crowd goes wild, and now you too can join the rest of the people who have turned this activity
into their habitual way of Dawah. You too can count how many leaflets you’ve handed out while Dawah mode was in the on position. Yes, unfortunately, there is a state of mind called “Dawah Mode”. This concept has percolated throughout the fabric of the Ummah in my part of the world. Somehow, somewhere, some people got the idea that others would love to read about their way of life, especially if printed on crusty paper with “exciting” colors. Add in a few grammar and spelling mistakes, take away as much human interfacing as possible, replace “keepin’ it real” with prepared Islamic statements and memorized explanations, mix it with a “pick-your-own-hours” schedule, and you have “Dawah Mode”. You can be sure that you were in Dawah Mode if, once you are out of Dawah Mode, you can relax, think back, and say, “Boy, that was good Dawah”. Brother Habeeb Hussaini recently related a story to me that will further elucidate my point. He and another person had just walked out of
his building, and they saw a man snatch a purse from a lady and jet faster than I run to food (and once again, you could hear Chris Berman’s voice, but we won’t get into that here). Taking quick action, Habeeb started running to his car so that he could chase down the purse snatcher, but was stopped by the other person who screamed, “No, wait! I have a better idea!” He quickly ran inside. Habeeb stood there comforting the lady, thinking that his friend is calling the police or hopefully something better. The man came running back with a big smile on his face and dawah pamphlets in his hand. He hands the lady the Dawah literature and requests that they be on their way. Yeah, great idea buddy! Why do what's right when we can have people read about it. I mean sure, you could have at least gave chase, but that would be going a little overboard, don't you think? Especially when a pamphlet can explain what they should have done, and isn't that what really counts? I don't
know what enrages me more. This story or the fact that falling coconuts kill more human beings than sharks, and The Discovery Channel has NEVER done a special on "Killer Coconuts". I'm sure if I could speak to the person who first used dawah pamphlets, she would explain to me that it was used complementary to all the other efforts that were happening. This was not supposed to turn into the main form of invitation. And even if it did, someone out there would be observant enough to see that it can only be used at specific times and places, and that it has the potential of turning more people off than on. Some people have taken this creative and informative idea, and overdosed on it. The situation has gotten so bad that the terms "giving dawah" and "giving pamphlets" can be used synonymously. These people believe that handing out pamphlets is the raison d'etre of the existence of the opposable thumb in human beings. The idea of dawah is being debased. People are now
looking at it as just an activity to do, words to preach, and finding the right time to do it. Dawah is all these things and much more. The word means to invite. What can invite better than sincerity. Someone giving me a drone-like invitation to an event is not as appealing as the person giving a sincere invitation. Plus, when it's an invitation to something that guarantees to improve life as we know it, it better be evident, in the most real form (as opposed to disingenuous smiles and hypocritical talks about great changes while their life is falling apart because of it), in the person inviting. Let’s play a little game. Think about what comes into your mind when you see the word “inviting”, but this time think of the adjective, not the verb. What makes something inviting. Sincere, prosperous, tranquil, peaceful, attractive are some of the usual words that come to mind. When you invite, keep some of these things in mind. You must be inviting while you are inviting.
After hearing a lot about Islam, a person attending a session at a Young Muslims event in New York said, "All this sounds really

The following incident was mentioned by
brother Aslam Nakhuda during a lecture that he gave on 24/1/2004. Brother
Aslam is an Imam of Jame Masjid Brampton in Canada. He said that
three years back a group of eight brothers, including him, set out to
Texas, USA for dawah. They spent sometime there to remind the residents
about the reality of this life. On their way back, they stopped by a
service station beside a highway to perform the Magrib prayer. One of the
brothers gave the Adhan (Call to prayer). Two Non Muslim men were passing
by when the Adhan was being called. Being curious, they came to the
brothers and asked them who they were, where do they come from and what
they were doing. The brothers told them that they are Muslims who are
coming from Toronto, Canada with the glad tidings of Islam. A scholar, who
was with them, discussed about Islam with the non-Muslim men for 2 or 3
minutes. Then the brothers prepared to offer the salah. The non Muslims
who were standing by asked what they should be doing now. The brothers
told them to join the prayer and just follow along. The two men decided to
join the prayer. The imam recited Surah Fatiha and another surah after it.
Then he went to Ruku' and both the Non Muslims did the same. When time for
sajdah (prostration on the ground) came, the Non Muslims started
hesitating and didn't know whether they should also prostrate on the
ground as they never did this before. One of them decided not to do so and
he left the prayer. However, the other one just went to sajdah. After the
prayer, this person who agreed to prostrate to Allah was blessed with
iman. He accepted Islam from the brothers.Dear readers, this is
what we have to do. We have to submit to the will of Allah and in return
He will bless us with iman. On the other hand, a person who is arrogant
and decide not to submit to the will of Allah may just be deprived of
  iman.

[IslamCity] Re: Palestinian historical photos information

2005-04-09 Thread Susan Howard-Azzeh

Dear Linda,

Thanks so much for forwarding this website. It's excellent. I was looking for a photo of what's left of Burhan's grandfather's home in Beit Gibrean which we visited 20 years ago, but didn't see it.

Does anyone know of people collecting and archiving Palestinian historicalartifacts? I have a friend in Hamilton whose basement looks like a Palestinian museum. He has collected original land deeds, maps, other documents, books, Life magazines; antigue dresses, silver jewellery, rugs, furniture, coffee pots, all kinds of amazing things from 1948 and before. They are beauitfully displayed and protected. It really is an excellent start to a wonderful Palestinian museum. I wonder who else is collecting these invaluable items. With increased business and tourist travel throughout the Middle East, commercial collectors, and catastrophes like the Palestinian dress exhibit going "missing" at an LA airport, it's vital to keep these items in responsible Palestinian hands.

All the best, Susan
