Open letter to President George W. Bush
From an "expelled" Muslim to an elected American Tariq Ramadan

Mr. President,
By a strange twist of fate, this year's calendar puts your inauguration on the same day as the most important religious day of the year for Muslims. Is it a historical irony that links these two celebrations together? As you are inaugurated for your second term, I, a European Muslim, want to share with you a few thoughts.
Mr. President, I was banished from the United States by your administration. My visa was revoked, as I was about to assume my position as a Professor at Notre Dame University. To this day, I have not been told the reasons behind this action.
I do know, as does Homeland Security and the State Department, that my file is empty. The Patriot Act was put forward as an excuse and I was asked to reapply. Since then, there has been total silence. Why was this decision taken? What are you afraid of? Is it perhaps that academic freedom of _expression_ has become a danger for you? Or is it perhaps the fact that it would have fortified criticism against you, no matter how constructive, especially coming from a Muslim intellectual?
What are you doing to your country, Mr. President?
Along with the majority of Muslims around the world, I condemned the September 11 attacks. I shared and sympathized with the American people's pain. We understood their fears and the depth of their doubts. To transcend that traumatic experience, two things were crucial. First, Muslims had to firmly and clearly denounce terrorism and extremism, which they did, even if at times it was done timidly. Second, the American government should have shed light on the facts: how were such odious acts possible? Who was responsible for the multiple and repeated information failures? The people of the United States, like the rest of the world, needed explanations, transparency and truth.
However, since September 11th, 2001 your administration has continued to accumulate shadowy dealings. Boards of inquiry were delayed or strangely constituted; state secrets and sinister silences mushroomed. In the name of the "war against terrorism", the ultimate reason for legitimacy, did you permit your officials to make decisions and to act illegitimately, without a hint of accountability? Under your watch, laws eradicating civil liberties have been enacted which put into question the rights of citizens. Discrimination against Arabs and Muslimshas been institutionalized and legalized. There is limitless scrutiny, individuals are arrested, and lying in the name of the State has become the norm.
Whatever the tone of your generous speeches, facts do not lie: this is not a good time to be a Muslim in the United States. The consequences of the Patriot Act has been exactly what its' most virulent detractors had predicted - an infringement of citizens' rights and legalized discrimination that is reminiscent of the McCarthy era.
Your commitment on the international stage is no less alarming. Your intervention in Afghanistan killed thousands of civilians who had nothing to do with the attacks of September 11th. The situation is unresolved. Bin Laden is still a fugitive and tortures exerted by those under your administration are a daily happening as confirmed by Human Rights Watch.
Inhumane treatment inflicted on the Guantanamo prisoners in a declared "no rights" area is scandalous. Your intervention in Iraq only confirmed these practices, characterized by lies, systematic manipulation and in the end, the death of tens of thousands of Iraqis and Americans. The horrors of Abu Ghuraib prison, which appeared as revelations of torture were in fact institutionalized, from Afghanistan to Guantanamo. The American soldiers in Iraq are not primarily responsible: someone at the head of your administration had undoubtedly given the green light. Mr. Bush, would it be that you are in favour of torture exerted against Arabs and Muslims? Is this the message that one must understand from these actions?
For the last three years, your policy has consisted in victimizing the American super power to such an extent that in return, it has had total disrespect for basic human rights. Instead of calming spirits with more truth and dialogue, you have spread fear by keeping Americans in the dark and lying to them. It was expected that you would assist in surpassing the trauma of September 11th, not sustain it dangerously. You have won the elections by feeding the fears of your citizens and presenting yourself as their only guarantor of security. You won by playing on emotions, not intelligence.
Mr. President,
I have visited the United States more than twenty times in the past three years. I know that your country abounds with people of critical intelligence and honesty. Many of

[IslamCity] MOSSAD SPILLS THE BEANS: IRAQ ''ELECTION'' TURNOUT WAS AT MOST 40-45% !

2005-02-03 Thread Assalamu Aleikum

Assalamu aleikum.

WARNING: As always, use proper protection if visiting
a zionist website like debka. Debka in particular is a
notorious Mossad front.

While most of the Mossad's analysis (below) on the
public debka website enthuses about the Iraq
Election, it also contains the following very
revealing admissions:

DEBKAfile’s Iraq experts reveal that, while the
turnout is officially estimated at 60%, the real
figure will probably turn out to be quite a bit lower,
no more than 40-45% ... In Basra, Iraq’s second
largest town, the turnout was 32-35%, although Iraqi
election officials claimed 90%.
excerpted from:
http://www.debka.com/article.php?aid=974

Even that 40-45% figure is no doubt an exaggeration,
as 40% had been touted by the occupiers as the minimum
target figure in the days leading up to the election
hoax. What the Mossad is doing here is advising
zionists honestly - to a point - that the Iraq
election figures are a fraudulent hoax, without
taking the chance of angering the U.S. by specifying
the correct figure which is of course considerably
below the minimum 40% acceptable figure. The rest of
the article's language promoting support for the
election is mere protective coloration for the
40-45% figure, to keep the US off the zionists' backs
for publishing such a damaging admission.

As for debka's provenance, a recent notation from
Asia Times sums up what everybody already knows:

A few months back the US's Fox News Channel and a
website reported to have close links to Israeli
intelligence agency Mossad claimed that an Indian air
force reconnaissance plane sighted bin Laden's convoy
in the Tibet-Ladakh region close to the northeastern
border of Pakistan, near India and China. The view was
endorsed by the website Debka.com, which is believed
to be run by Mossad.

Initial Breakdown of Iraq’s First Exercise in
Democracy
DEBKAfile Exclusive Analysis
January 31, 2005, 1:15 AM (GMT+02:00)
http://www.debka.com/article.php?aid=974

Iraq’s epic general election for a 275-member national
assembly Sunday, January 30, was a success by the very
fact of its taking place. Despite the violence leading
up to the event and promised bloodbath, a surprising
number of Iraqis were not intimidated and turned out
in larger or smaller numbers almost everywhere. Iraq’s
Baath loyalists and al Qaeda’s three organizations -
the Iraqi group led by Abu Mussab al Zarqawi, Ansar al
Sunna and Ansar al Islam - managed by a concerted
effort to pull off some 16 suicide attacks killing
more than 30 Iraqis. Yet they failed to derail the
election and therefore reduced their leverage in
post-election Iraq.

In addition to the lockdown, tight security and
driving restrictions, DEBKAfile’s sources inside Iraq
report American forces carried out proactive
operations. They were able to foil eight suicide
attacks. Also in Mosul, where the US command decided
to deploy the Kurdish 36th commando battalion (which
also fought in Fallujah) in the Sunni neighborhoods,
150 ready primed explosive belts were seized –
testimony to the scale of aborted carnage. And many
rockets and mortars shot at polling stations made
plenty of noise - but misfired.

Four hours after the polls closed, a clearly relieved
President George W. Bush spoke at the White House in
praise of the bravery of Iraqis who turned out to vote
and “firmly rejected the antidemocratic ideology” of
terrorists. But the US president seemed to edge away
from his usual encomiums on a “victory for democracy.”
Nor did he actually commend the Iraqis for the big
step they took towards establishing a free and
democratic government.

The truth is that there was not much of either in this
remarkable election.

DEBKAfile’s Iraq experts reveal that, while the
turnout is officially estimated at 60%, the real
figure will probably turn out to be quite a bit lower,
no more than 40-45% - in itself an exceptional feat.
The other surprising manifestation was the high
proportion of Iraqi women voters – appraised at more
than 55% of the total. This was most marked in the
Shiite districts of the south, where local clerics
ordered everyone to vote, but the men stayed at home
and sent their womenfolk to perform their democratic
duty.

The Shiite turnout was disappointing in other ways
too. Long queues and 80% percentage of eligible voters
appeared only in the two shrine cities of Najef and
Karbala. Further south in the densely populated
Diwanya, Mussana, Qadasiya and Amara, the proportion
did not go beyond 40%. In Basra, Iraq’s second largest
town, the turnout was 32-35%, although Iraqi election
officials claimed 90%.

Our experts characterize Shiite voting activity as
“lots of hustle and bustle, but not too many ballots.”

The Sunni districts predictably obeyed their leaders
boycott directive. In internal memos, American
military officials reported that

from the Azerbaijani andArmenian frontier where, having united forces from Iraq with othersfrom Syria, he had observed regional differences over thepronunciation of the Quran - differences which had caused friction. Having sent Ibn masud to Iraq anddiscovered him teaching in the dialext of Hudhail (as Ibn Masud hadoriginaly learned it), Umar rebuked him, 'The Quran was revealed inthe dialect of the Quraish, so teach according to the dialect of theQuraish and not that of Hudhail.[Ibn Hajr, fath al Bari, ix:9; NB. That is indeedbest for him (as all Arabic dialects for him will be of eualdifficulty, so might as well learn it in the dialect of revelation)'[Ibn Hajr, fath al Bari, ix:27]Hudaifa ibn al Yaman's warning to the Caliph came in 25 AH, and thatvery year Uthman resolved to end these disputes. Inthe first of these he made copies relying exclusively on the Suhufkept in Hafsa's custody, who was the Prophet's widow. A lesser-knownnarration suggests that he first authorised the compilations of anindependent Mushaf, using primary sources, before comparing this withthe Suhhuf. Both versions concur that the Suhuf of hafsa played acritical role in the making of Uthman;s Mushaf.II. Uthman prepares a Mushaf directly from the SuhufAccording to the first report Uthman concluded his deliberation andretrieved the Suhuf from Hafsa, arranging immediately for the scribingof duplicate copies. Linda McQuaig says today's charade is simply about
Iraq's oil

In the weeks before the U.S. invasion of Iraq, the
influential New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman
wrote approvingly of the breath-taking audacity of
the Bush administration's plans for Iraq.

Friedman noted that the invasion would lead to a
long-term U.S. occupation and that Iraq will be
controlled by the iron fist of the U.S. Army.
Apparently he didn't regard any of this as a problem —
just part of the job of remaking Iraq to fit the
fantasies of U.S. policymakers.

Friedman's casual acceptance of Washington's right to
redesign other countries — an attitude rampant among
media commentators as well as U.S. officials — sheds
light on why the occupation of Iraq has been such a
disaster, and why there's little reason to believe
Iraq is on the path to democracy.

No matter how inspired the rhetoric, the U.S. project
in Iraq has never been about democracy. It's been
about getting control of Iraq's vast, virtually
untouched oil reserves, and extending Washington's
military reach over the region. Think of Iraq as a
military base with a very large oil reserve
underneath; you can't ask for better than that, Wall
Street oil analyst Fadel Gheit told me in an
interview.

Bush officials never wanted to run Iraq themselves,
but rather to have a loyal local do it for them.
Before the invasion, their plan was simply to install
the wealthy, CIA-groomed exile Ahmed Chalabi. They
also drew up sweeping plans to privatize the entire
Iraqi economy, including the oil sector — before the
Iraqi people got to cast a single vote.

But the iron fist of the U.S. army has not been
popular in Iraq, fuelling a resistance that has turned
key parts of the country into a free-fire zone.

Among other things, this makes meaningful elections
impossible. If large numbers of people are too
terrified to vote, the results won't reflect the
popular will — yet they'll give an aura of legitimacy
to a government that may represent a tiny minority.

But while useless in advancing real democracy, the
election is highly useful to George W. Bush, who will
point to a democratic transfer of power.

Questioned last week, Bush said the U.S. would
withdraw if asked by the new government. Really?

Earlier in the week, the Pentagon acknowledged plans
and budgets to keep 120,000 troops there for at least
two more years.

It sure looks like Washington plans to go on calling
the shots in Iraq, but now there will be a plausible
government to show off to the world. If Iraq's oil
industry is put on the chopping block and ends up in
the hands of U.S. oil companies, Washington will be
off the hook; the decision will have been made by the
elected Iraqi government.

At last — mission accomplished.

For How Many People is the Sacrifice Sufficient?

Question : Dear scholars, As-Salamu `alaykum. We are eight people—myself, my wife, and my children. Is one sacrificial animal (udhiyah) sufficient for us, or should there be one animal for each person? If one is sufficient for us, then is it permissible for my neighbor and me to share in one animal? Jazakum Allah khayran.

Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

Dear questioner, we would like to thank you for the great confidence you place in us, and we implore Allah Almighty to help us serve His cause and render our work for His Sake. May Allah reward you abundantly for your interest in knowing the teachings of Islam!

Responding to your question, Sheikh M. S. Al-Munajjid, a prominent Saudi Muslim lecturer and author, states:

One sheep is sufficient as a sacrificial animal for one man and his family and whoever he wants among the Muslims, based on the hadith of `A’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), who said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that a ram with black legs, black belly and black (circles) round the eyes should be brought to him so that he could sacrifice it. He said to `A’ishah, “Give me the knife,” and she did that. He took it, then he took the ram, placed it on the ground and then slaughtered it (i.e., prepared to slaughter it), saying: “In the name of Allah, O Allah, accept (this sacrifice) on behalf of Muhammad and the family of Muhammad and the Ummah of Muhammad.” Then he sacrificed it (Muslim).

It was narrated that Abu Ayyub Al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: At the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), a man would sacrifice a sheep on behalf of himself and his household, and they would eat some and give some to others (Ibn Majah and At-Tirmidhi).

If a man sacrifices a single sheep or goat on behalf of himself and his family, that will suffice for everyone he intended of his family, whether living or deceased. If he did not intend anything specific, then it includes all those who are included in this word (family or household), either customarily or linguistically. Customarily it refers to all those whom he supports of wives, children, and relatives; linguistically it includes all those who are related to him of his own children and the descendents of his father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

One-seventh of a camel or cow is equivalent to one sheep. If a man sacrifices one-seventh of a camel or cow on behalf of himself and his family, that is sufficient because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that one-seventh of a camel or cow takes the place of a sheep in the case of the hadi

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - At least 232 civilians have
been killed while working on U.S.-funded contracts in
Iraq and the death toll is rising rapidly, according
to a U.S. government audit released Sunday.

The quarterly report sent to Congress by the inspector
general appointed to audit U.S.-funded work in Iraq
said security problems were the biggest obstacle to
Iraq's reconstruction and workers faced grave risks
daily.

One cannot spend a day in Iraq without quickly
gaining a profound respect for all engaged in this
endeavor, said Stuart Bowen, a former White House
lawyer and now Special Inspector General for Iraq
Reconstruction.

Their work and sacrifice in Iraq make all the more
crucial our success in promoting economy, efficiency
and effectiveness in preventing fraud, waste and
abuse, he added in the report, released after Iraqis
voted in elections bloodied by attacks.

People working on U.S.-funded projects in Iraq
increasingly have been the targets of kidnapping and
assassination by insurgents, who view them as
collaborators with the U.S. military that invaded Iraq
and ousted ex-President Saddam Hussein in 2003.

More than 1,400 U.S. troops have been killed in Iraq
but the U.S. government does not keep an official
tally of the number of civilians slain while working
on U.S.-funded projects there and in support of U.S.
forces.

Bowen cited U.S. Labor Department statistics that
showed companies had filed 232 compensation claims
under the Defense Base Act (DBA) for workers killed
there, an increase in the fourth quarter of 2004 of 93
percent.

The DBA requires all U.S. government contractors to
acquire workers' compensation insurance for employees
working in Iraq.

MORE DEATHS LIKELY

Not all U.S. employers would have filed DBA claims for
workers killed in Iraq and the death toll from
civilians killed is likely to be higher than 232, said
one U.S. official.

In addition, 728 DBA claims were filed for employees
who missed more than four days of work. Several
hundred more were reported from neighboring Kuwait
where companies working in Iraq have logistics and
support operations.

Bowen said the tough security environment was delaying
projects funded by $18.4 billion set aside by Congress
in 2003 to rebuild Iraq.

On Jan. 12, the Project and Contracting Office in
Iraq, which is in charge of most U.S.-funded work
there, said security issues delayed by two weeks 17
percent of their projects in central Iraq and 15
percent in northern Iraq.

Attacks on U.S.-funded work sites, convoys and
employees averaged about 22 a week until Jan. 3, the
report said.

Auditors said the cost of paying for private security
workers in Iraq had increased dramatically and was
significantly adding to overhead costs.

U.S rebuilding work in Iraq has been criticized for
being too slow. The report said as of Jan. 5, only
$2.4 billion of the total $18.4 billion had been spent
on rebuilding and $10.3 billion had been contractually
obligated for future work.

Bowen said his office had looked at 134 potential
criminal cases involving U.S.-funded projects and 25
of these had been passed on to other U.S. agencies, 63
had been closed and his department was still looking
at 46 cases.

The report also cited an audit by the State Department
which estimated U.S. defense contractor DynCorp, a
unit of Computer Sciences Corp, may have overcharged
by about $685,000 to provide fuel for a U.S.-run
police academy in Amman, Jordan. No other details were
given of the case.

2005-02-03 Thread Assalamu Aleikum

Audit: $9 Billion Unaccounted for in Iraq
Associated Press
01.30.2005
http://www.forbes.com/business/manufacturing/feeds/ap/2005/01/30/ap1791607.html

The U.S. occupation authority in Iraq was unable to
keep track of nearly $9 billion it transferred to
government ministries, which lacked financial
controls, security, communications and adequate staff,
an inspector general has found.

The U.S. officials relied on Iraqi audit agencies to
account for the funds but those offices were not even
functioning when the funds were transferred between
October 2003 and June 2004, according to an audit by a
special U.S. inspector general.

The findings were released Sunday by Stuart Bowen Jr.,
special inspector general for Iraq reconstruction.
Bowen issued several reports on the Coalition
Provisional Authority (CPA), the U.S. occupation
government that ruled Iraq from June 2003 to June
2004.

The official who led the CPA, L. Paul Bremer III,
submitted a blistering, written reply to the findings,
saying the report had many misconceptions and
inaccuracies, and lacked professional judgment.

Bremer complained the report assumes that
Western-style budgeting and accounting procedures
could be immediately and fully implemented in the
midst of a war.

The inspector general said the occupying agency
disbursed $8.8 billion to Iraqi ministries without
assurance the moneys were properly accounted for.

U.S. officials, the report said, did not establish or
implement sufficient managerial, financial and
contractural controls. There was no way to verify
that the money was used for its intended purposes of
financing humanitarian needs, economic reconstruction,
repair of facilities, disarmament and civil
administration.

Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman said Sunday the
authority was hamstrung by extraordinary conditions
under which it worked throughout its mission.

We simply disagree with the audit's conclusion that
the CPA provided less than adequate controls, Whitman
said.

Turning over the money was in keeping with the CPA's
responsibility to transfer these funds and
administrative responsibilities to the Iraqi
ministries as an essential part of restoring Iraqi
governance.

The inspector general cited an International Monetary
Fund assessment in October, 2003 on the poor state of
Iraqi government offices. The assessment found
ministries suffered from staff shortages, poor
security, disruptions in communications, damage and
looting of government buildings, and lack of financial
policies.

Some of the transferred funds may have paid ghost
employees, the inspector general found.

CPA staff learned that 8,206 guards were on the
payroll at one ministry, but only 602 could be
accounted for, the report said. At another ministry,
U.S. officials found 1,417 guards on the payroll but
could only confirm 642.

When staff members of the U.S. occupation government
recommended that payrolls be verified before salary
payments, CPA financial officials stated the CPA
would rather overpay salaries than risk not paying
employees and inciting violence, the inspector
general said.

Bremer attacked many of the specific findings. Among
his rebuttal points:

_With more than a million Iraqi families depending on
government salaries, there would have been an
increased security threat if civil servants had not
been paid until modern pay records were developed.

_U.S. policy was to build up the Iraqi force guarding
government facilities, and it was better to accept an
imperfect payroll system than to stop paying armed
young men providing security.

_The report was suggesting the CPA should have placed
hundreds of CPA auditors in Iraqi ministries,
contrary to United States and United Nations policy of
giving Iraqi ministers responsibility for their
budgets.

_The CPA established a program review board, an
independent judiciary and inspector generals in each
agency to fight corruption.

The inspector general's report rejected Bremer's
criticism. It concluded that despite the war, We
believe the CPA management of Iraq's national budget
process and oversight of Iraqi funds was burdened by
severe inefficiencies and poor management.

Question of Fatwa

As-Salamu `alaykum! In his fatwa " Does Islam Go against Laughter? ", Sheikh Yusuf `Abdullah Al-Qaradawi stated that when Abu Bakr As-Siddeeq (may Allah be pleased with him) tried to stop two young girls from singing in the Prophet’s house, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) told him: 'Let it be, for we are now in the feast.' However, Sheikh Qaradawi did not refer to the following hadiths: Ibn Mas`ud (may Allah be pleased with him) used to swear by Allah that the ayah "And of mankind is he who purchases idle talk to mislead (men) from the Path of Allah . . .” (Luqman: 6) referred to singing. Abu ‘Amir and Abu Malik al-Ash`ari (may Allah be pleased with them) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Among my
Ummah will be those who make permissible al-hira (adultery), silk, khamr and musical instruments . . .” (Reported by al-Bukhari; see al-Fath, 10/51). Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “In this Ummah there will be punishments of earthquakes, showers of stones and deformity (transformation into animals); that will be when the people drink khamr, listen to female singers and play musical instruments.” (See al-Silsilah as-Saheehah, 2203; attributed to Ibn Abid-Dunya, Dhamm al-Malahi; the hadith was narrated by at-Tirmidhi, no. 2212). Also, Sheikh Qaradawi did not mention the following facts: It is reported in a Sahih hadith that the Prophet's laughter was never more than a smile. (Reported by Ahmad) According to another hadith, he (peace and blessings be upon him) used to remain silent for long periods, and laugh little. (Reported by Ahmad)
‘A’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: “I never saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) laughing so heartily that his back teeth showed; he would only smile.” (Reported by Abu Dawud) Now, don't the readers have the right to know the other side of the coin too? But then again, perhaps I am wrong about it. I would however, appreciate it, if the fatwa issuer could reply to my objections. Wassalam

Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger. First of all, we would like to thank you for the great confidence you have in us. We hope our efforts meet your expectations. Given that your objection revolves mainly around music and why it is permissible, here is the clarification for that in the light of fatwa issued by Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi: The whole issue of singing is controversial, whether it is with musical accompaniment or not. Some issues succeeded to gain the Muslim scholars’ agreement, while others failed. All scholars have unanimous view on the prohibition of all forms of singing and music that incites debauchery, indecency, or sin. As for musical instruments, given the weakness of the evidence indicating that they are forbidden, the rule to be applied here is the one states that all things are originally deemed permissible as long as there is no Shari`ah
text that prohibits them. Singing is no more than melodious words; if these are good, singing is considered good; but if they are bad, such singing is deemed bad. Talk that contains forbidden content is prohibited. What if that talk is accompanied with rhythm and melody? Scholars agree on the permissibility of singing without instrumental accompaniment and where the content is not prohibited. This sort of singing is allowed only in certain occasions such as: weddings, feasts, welcoming a traveler, and the like. This is based on the hadith of the Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) that states: “He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, ‘Have you given the girl (i.e., the bride) anything as a present?’ They (the attendants) replied, ‘Yes.’ He asked, 'Did you send a singer along with her?' 'No', said `A'ishah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) then said, 'The Ansar are a people who love poetry. You should have sent along someone who would sing: Here
we come, to you we come, greet us as we greet you.'" In this case, we can say that a woman can sing only in front of women and her non-marriageable male kin. In the subject of musical instruments, scholars disagree on the matter. Some of them permit all sorts of singing, be it accompanied with musical instruments or not, and even consider it recommended. A second group of scholars permit singing only when is not accompanied with a musical instrument. A third group declare it to be prohibited whether it be accompanied with a musical instrument or not; they even consider it as a major sin. In supporting their view, they

[IslamCity] THANK GOD, THE LASER TERRORIST WAS NOT A MUSLIM! ( A MUST READ!)

2005-02-03 Thread Engr. Meer Sahib

[Many Arabs and Muslims were bracing for yet another wave of anti-Arab,
anti-Muslim sentiment sweeping across America, as a rash of lasers aimed at
airplaneswere being reported.Such reports
ofblindinglaser beams aimed at airplanes and helicoptershelped
keepthe terrorism fear among Americansalive, and al-Qaeda
remained the prime suspect. The arrest of David Banach brought a sigh of
relief to the much maligned Arab and Muslim population. While the media
(rightly) did not invoke his religion (from his name, he sounds like a Jew), had
it been a Muslim, such gentle handling of one's faith and race would have been
out of the question.
Readers will remember that, hot on the heels of 911, Americans faced
anotherterror attack.Deadly anthrax contaminated letters that were
mailed to NBC's Tom Brokaw, Senator Tom Daschle and others. Arabs and Muslims
were suspected to be behind this terror, especially because the letters
contained phrases such as "Allah is Great". Again, much to the relief of Arabs
and Muslims, the FBI uncovered the suspect to be Jewish microbiologist Dr.
Philip M. Zack. Itappears that the "Arab-hating-Jew" was behind a
conspiracy to frame a colleague who was born in Egypt and who worked, along with
Dr. Zack, at the U.S. Army's Medical Research Institute for Infectious Diseases
in Fort Detrick, Md.
The case against Dr. Phillip M. Zack began unravelling when Egyptian-born
scientist Dr. Ayaad Assaad, now a U.S. citizen, was called in by the FBI for an
interview on October 2, 2001. The FBI had received an unsigned letter falsely
accusing Dr. Assaad of being responsible for mailing the anthrax tainted
letters. The letter stated, among other things, "Dr. Assaad is a potential
biological terrorist," and "I have worked with Dr. Assaad, and I heard him say
that he has a vendetta against the U.S. government and that if anything happens
to him, he told his sons to carry on." The anonymous letter falsely accusing Dr.
Assaad was sent a little after the September 11 terrorist attacks but before
anyone knew about the anthrax-laced letters. (Our own CSIS uses such anonymous
information to arrest and jail Muslims in Canada. Some are languishing in jails
for many years, torn away from their children and other family members).
A group of coworkers led by then Army Lt. Col. Philip Zack began a hateful
campaign to harass and get Dr. Assaad fired from his duties. The Zionists
apparently wanted to get rid of anyone that could uncover their sinister plans
which consisted in stealing "weapons grade anthrax" and other deadly viruses
used in biological weapons. The conspirators had the support of the lab's former
commander. .. For continuation of this suspense storyplease Read:
"FBI Closes in on Anthrax Terrorist -Prime Suspect is a Zionist" http://aztlan.net/zack.htm
Readers may also remember thatseveral suspicious characters, just prior
to and after 911, were arrested. Some had many incriminating documents on them,
including maps of nuclear installations in the US. Some otherswere
dancingon a truck joyously,as the planes crashing into the
WTCtowers. As soon as it was known that they were Israelis and, some
Mossad agents, they were quietly sent back to Israel. Investigators were told
that anything related to Israel and 911 were 'classified' and were denied access
to important documents.
According to anotherinvestigative reporter Robert I. Friedman, the
firstWTC attack, blamed on a blind Muslim scholar (who is now being
tortured insolitary confinement),also had Israeli connections.

The fact that David Banachwas arrested under the 'Patriot Act' seems to indicate that the
authorities believe him to be a terrorist, rather than just a prankster.
However, since he is not a Muslim or an Arab, we may never see media headlines
on this story.]

Dear Alan

Thank you so much for your response. I am very happy to take note of
theremedial actions CBC has taken.

I must mention that while I do read and watch the US media, I depend on
CBC(and some other un-tethered, un-embedded columnists and reporters, such
asEric Margolis, Robert Fisk et al ) to get unbiased information on
worldaffairs. We, Canadians, cannot feel comfortable living in this oasis
ofpeace and security (Canada)and not care for the tragedies and
injustices takingplace in other nations, as, in this global village, we are

We have benefited from CBC's reasonably fair reporting on world matters
andespecially on matters related to the Middle East. While we pride

Dear Meer Sahib:

Thank-you for writing us about the segment that appeared on the
Saturdayedition of CBC News Morning on January 22nd. As the
producerresponsible for the content of this program, I wanted to respond to
yourconcerns on behalf of the CBC.

Your e-mail dealt with a live segment which appeared on our
program, where we interviewed a reporter from NBC News from Baghdad.
The reasonfor the interview was to speak to the reporter about a breaking
newsstory in Iraq: as you'll probably remember, there were new attacks
onmembers of the Iraqi guards approximately one week before the
electionswere going to be held in that country.

During the course of that live interview, the NBC reporter referred
to"terrorists" being responsible. This was
unfortunate, because - as youstate in your e-mail - the CBC goes to great
lengths to make sure thatour use of language is as precise and as neutral as
possible. One ofthe real problems with live reports -
such as this one from Baghdad - isthat we cannot control exactly how a
reporter chooses to express himself- or herself - during a live
report. Occasionally, reporters misspeakor don't express themselves
clearly or effectively.

In this case, our news desk instantly recognized that
there wereproblems with the live report, and they took immediate steps to
makessure that this report was edited to meet our language and
editorialstandards before it was replayed in subsequent hours.

I should also make clear that the CBC uses outside reporters
sparingly, either from other established news organizations (like NBC,
Reuters, theChristian Science Monitors) or, in some cases, with credible
andexperienced freelance journalists. Because of the
considerable dangersinvolved in reporting from Iraq right now, the CBC has
not been able tomaintain a full-time presence in Baghdad during the last
year, and therehave been relatively few journalists operating within the
country.(During the weekend of January 22, the CBC's Don Murray and
MargaretEvans were still en route to the country to report on the elections,
andthey weren't yet available for us to interview).

In recent months, when news warrants, the CBC has turned to some
ofthese other news organizations or to freelancers to help us try to
tellthe story of what is happening on the ground in Iraq. The CBC has
had aworking relationship with NBC for many years, and we've
occasionallyused some of their reporters in this capacity. While the reports havebeen infrequent, we've never had a
problem like this with an NBCreporter's live appearance until January
22nd. As a result of this, theCBC has taken immediate steps to
discontinue live reports from NBC'sBaghdad bureau, and we will be
further reviewing this matter with ourstaff to make sure that every possible
step is taken in future to ensurethat all subsequent live reports meet our
editorial standards.

I hope this response helps to explain how we responded to the
January22nd report. However, it is my responsibility to inform you
that if youare not satisfied with this response, you may wish to submit the
matterfor review by the CBC Ombudsman, Mr. David Bazay. The Office of

[IslamCity] Re: Remembrance and Arabs (op-ed by Yasmine Fahim)

2005-02-03 Thread Ishaq

salaam,

arabs? don't you mean muslims? did you mean oppressed people? also,
what i feel ashamed of is how this has become suddenly an arab issue
(who are not all muslims and some of whom are jews and christians) now
that arabs have finally, in a small way, learned how it feels to be
black and/or native in north amerikkka (or simply palestinian who all
are not arabs or pale skinned) yet still approach the subject as if
those who are not arab deserved their lot in life. meanwhile, they
arabs (and light skinned arabs -- middle -class light skinned arabs)
show shock and disgust that arabs not even muslims b.u.t. arabs are
treated like niggers and chugs (natives) -- the ghetto stereotypical
underclass and white trash.

so what is an arab? we are told now, for rally round the flag boy
reasons, that an arab is someone who speaks arabic? well, there are
jews and christians who speak arabic. arabic is a language. so you mean
to tell me that the terrorism and abuse of peoples by the state is
because of language? not even the f.l.q. would buy that one-- culture
still played a big role their campaign.

palestinians are not all pale skinned arabs. there are black muslims in
palestine and muslims of all persuasions there and around the world.
this wicked abusive affair of oppression and injustice is an oppression
of muslims and an attack on what is viewed as the concept of islam not
the arab coopting for victim status and competing in the three ringed
camps of jewish or gay or feminazi holocaust horrors stories for props
and investment purposes and movie of the week.

did you/we even care about the murder of Rudwan Khalil Abubaker (black
and muslim)? (lawyer for the abubaker family, phil rankin, can be
reached at:
604-682 -3621) does his life matter because he is not a pale skinned
arab or arab at all? or maybe we was; he might have spoken arabic --
if so now can we all care... as muslims?

blacks have always stood up for those who oppress others and have paid
dearly the price while the same courtesy has not been returned by those
who they often assisted -- after all who profited off the diamond trade
and apartheid -- not only pale skin so called jews.

i am sorry that you finally have caught on that your friends (and by
these friends i do not mean jews but the white middle-class and rich
establishment), who were/are the enemies of the oppressed, are not your
friends -- never were.

this is called the montreal muslim news? b..u.t. all we seem to be
concerned with are arab issues (around the world) and sunni arab
issues as the rest of the muslim world are attacked, murdered, harassed,
demoralized and destroyed. arab does not equal muslim, my bruhs and
sistas.

if this is about arabs (and hating jews) then not too many people will
care because of it's to the obvious exclusion of those in suffering
along side them from natives to blacks to pakistani and poor whites; our
chinese, japanese, white, aboriginal, black and latino muslims who stand
brave and are harassed beyond tolerance. however, if this is about
solidarity and the arab community finally empathizing with those who
they have stepped over in the past for profit and this is about the
palestinians who they hide behind for victimhood props (yet do so very
likkle to assist) then there will be a show of force and resistance.

as muslims and not arabs we are told that everything has it's
purpose/measuring out and so maybe this was an example, this overt
western oppression of muslims (some of whom are) arabs for us all to
stop neglecting each other and working with each ones'
enemies/opressors, in order to advance ourselves, and to overstand the
struggle of those whose backs are whipped raw by the taskmasters of the
westernglobal hegemony.

let us not make this terrible period in history into what the holocaust
has become -- a commercial networking scheme for european and eastern
european white so called jews at the exclusion of all those who suffered
and still suffer at the hands of maniacs and greed merchants of the
western world.

[IslamCity] DAHR JAMAIL: SOME JUST VOTED FOR FOOD

2005-02-03 Thread Assalamu Aleikum

Some Just Voted for Food
Dahr Jamail
Inter Press Service
January 31, 2005
http://www.dahrjamailiraq.com/hard_news/archives/hard_news/000192.php#more

BAGHDAD, Jan 31 (IPS) - Voting in Baghdad was linked
with receipt of food rations, several voters said
after the Sunday poll.

Many Iraqis said Monday that their names were marked
on a list provided by the government agency that
provides monthly food rations before they were allowed
to vote.

”I went to the voting centre and gave my name and
district where I lived to a man,” said Wassif Hamsa, a
32-year-old journalist who lives in the predominantly
Shia area Janila in Baghdad. ”This man then sent me to
the person who distributed my monthly food ration.”

Mohammed Ra'ad, an engineering student who lives in
the Baya'a district of the capital city reported a
similar experience.

Ra'ad, 23, said he saw the man who distributed monthly
food rations in his district at his polling station.
”The food dealer, who I know personally of course,
took my name and those of my family who were voting,”
he said. ”Only then did I get my ballot and was
allowed to vote.”

”Two of the food dealers I know told me personally
that our food rations would be withheld if we did not
vote,” said Saeed Jodhet, a 21-year-old engineering
student who voted in the Hay al-Jihad district of
Baghdad.

There has been no official indication that Iraqis who
did not vote would not receive their monthly food
rations.

Many Iraqis had expressed fears before the election
that their monthly food rations would be cut if they
did not vote. They said they had to sign voter
registration forms in order to pick up their food
supplies.

Their experiences on the day of polling have
underscored many of their concerns about questionable
methods used by the U.S.-backed Iraqi interim
government to increase voter turnout.

Just days before the election, 52 year-old Amin Hajar
who owns an auto garage in central Baghdad had said:
”I'll vote because I can't afford to have my food
ration cut...if that happened, me and my family would
starve to death.”

Hajar told IPS that when he picked up his monthly food
ration recently, he was forced to sign a form stating
that he had picked up his voter registration. He had
feared that the government would use this information
to track those who did not vote.

Calls to the Independent Electoral Commission for Iraq
(IECI) and to the Ministry of Trade, which is
responsible for the distribution of the monthly food
ration, were not returned.

Other questions have arisen over methods to persuade
people to vote. U.S. troops tried to coax voters in
Ramadi, capital city of the al-Anbar province west of
Baghdad to come out to vote, AP reported.

IECI officials have meanwhile 'downgraded' their
earlier estimate of voter turnout.

IECI spokesman Farid Ayar had declared a 72 percent
turnout earlier, a figure given also by the Bush
Administration.

But at a press conference Ayar backtracked on his
earlier figure, saying the turnout would be nearer 60
percent of registered voters.

The earlier figure of 72 percent, he said, was ”only
guessing” and ”just an estimate” that had been based
on ”very rough, word of mouth estimates gathered
informally from the field.” He added that it will be
some time before the IECI can issue accurate figures
on the turnout.

”Percentages and numbers come only after counting and
will be announced when it's over,” he said. ”It is too
soon to say that those were the official numbers.”

Where there was a large turnout, the motivation behind
the voting and the processes both appeared
questionable. The Kurds up north were voting for
autonomy, if not independence. In the south and
elsewhere Shias were competing with Kurds for a bigger
say in the 275-member national assembly.

In some places like Mosul the turnout was heavier than
expected. But many of the voters came from outside,
and identity checks on voters appeared lax. Others
spoke of vote-buying bids.

The Bush Administration has lauded the success of the
Iraq election, but doubtful voting practices and
claims about voter turnout are both mired in
controversy.

Election violence too was being seen differently
across the political spectrum.

More than 30 Iraqis, a U.S. soldier, and at least 10
British troops died Sunday. Hundreds of Iraqis were
also wounded in attacks across Baghdad, in Baquba 50km
northeast of the capital as well as in the northern
cities Mosul and Kirkuk.

The British troops were on board a C-130 transport
plane that crashed near Balad city just northwest of
Baghdad. The British military has yet to reveal the
cause of the crash.

Despite unprecedented security measures in which
300,000 U.S. and Iraqi security forces were brought in
to curb the violence, nine suicide bombers and
frequent mortar attacks took a heavy toll in the
capital city, while strings of attacks were reported
around the rest of the country.

As U..S. President George W. Bush saw it, ”some Iraqis
were killed while exercising their

Make Peace Among People

[49. Surah Al-Hujurat : Ayah 9-10]

"And if two parties of the believers quarrel, make peace between them; but if one of them acts wrongfully towards the other, fight that which acts wrongfully until it returns to Allah's command; then if it returns, make peace between them with justice and act equitably; surely Allah loves those who act equitably. The believers are but brethren, therefore make peace between your brethren and be careful of (your duty to) Allah that mercy may be had on you. "

[Sahih Bukhari : Volume 3, Book 49, Number 857-858]

Narrated Um Kulthum bint Uqba (Radi Allah Anhu): That she heard Allah's Apostle (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) saying, "He who makes peace between the people by inventing good information or saying good things, is not a liar."

Narrated Sahl bin Sad (Radi Allah Anhu): Once the people of Quba fought with each other till they threw stones on each other. When Allah's Apostle (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) was informed about it, he said, "Let us go to bring about a reconciliation between them."

[IslamCity] Affection in Islamic culture

2005-02-03 Thread forever in ISLAM

Affection in Islamic culture
By Samana Siddiqui
What a loving culture America is, some of us may think. We see lots of kissing, hugging, gift-giving etc. especially between members of the opposite sex.
In contrast, look at Muslims and Muslim societies. How often do you see couples doing the same in public? Muslims look like real sourpusses in comparison.
But is Islam anti-affection? Does Islam condemn public displays of affection?
Think about it on February 14
With Valentine's Day coming up on February 14, men and women around the world (this is no longer just a European or American custom), will be shelling out millions to buy heart-shaped boxes of chocolate, brightly decorated cards, flowers and various other Valentine's Day paraphernalia for their loved ones.
They will also, as is customary, make public displays of romance and affection to their loved ones, like putting an advertisement in a newspaper's Valentine's Day section.
But the loved ones being referred to here are usually husbands/wives, boy/girlfriends. On occasion, some people give cards to friends and classmates, but the focus of the Valentine's Day observance is on the opposite sex.
Showing affection and giving gifts are part of Islamic culture
The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) once remarked to a man who had never kissed any of his ten children, "That shows) you have no mercy and tenderness at all. Those who do not show mercy to others will not have God's mercy shown on them" (quoted from Islam the Natural Way by Abdul Wahid Hamid p. 75.
And when it comes to giving gifts, let's not forget this: "Exchange presents with one another, for they remove ill feelings from the hearts," said the Prophet in a Hadith in Tirmidhi.
What about Public Display of Affection between spouses?
Love is beautiful. It's not a cheap thing on display. It is a private thing in most cultures of the world unless it is love towards children. But what about showing affection between spouses amongst Muslims? This is where many complain Muslims are way too conservative. Some newlywed Muslim couples, especially, meet with the disapproval of parents or in-laws by showing affection, even in front of family members. But other Muslims choose this way.
"No PDA," one Muslim sister in America once warned her husband, who was then her fiance (PDA stands for Public Display of Affection).
Affection between spouses is something which is usually reserved for the privacy of the home.
The Prophet's Sunnah with regards to his wives
The one most perfect in his faith is he whose conduct is best and the best amongst you is he who behaves best towards his spouse. (Saying of the Prophet). The Prophet would race and watch with his wife a public theater presentation but would not hug or kiss her in public.
Love does not equal physical affection always
As well, one thing that also has to be stressed is that not showing physical affection publicly does not indicate a lack of love for another person.
While kissing and hugging our parents, kids, siblings or spouses does indicate love, not doing so all of the time does not necessarily indicate otherwise.
People are different, and Islam is a religion of moderation. It accommodates the very affectionate and the non-affectionate. While it encourages affection amongst family members and friends, for instance, it gives us the guidelines to know what is appropriate and what is not.
And when it comes to the husband-wife affection, let's not forget that Allah says:
"And among His Signs is this, that He created for you spouses from among yourselves, that you may find repose in them, and He has put between you affection and mercy. Verily, in that are indeed signs for a people who reflect" (Quran 30:21).

[IslamCity] Plight of the Ummah Today

2005-02-03 Thread 03.05 Noushad T. V.
Title: Plight of the Ummah Today

In the Name of Almighty
AllahMost Gracious, Most Merciful.Assalamualaykum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu"The enemies of Faith would fain put out Allah's Light, but
Allah's Light will shine more glorious than ever.Wealth is for use and on
trust for mankind: Hoard not,nor misuse it. Fight a Straight Fight in the
Cause ofRight: Go forth bravely to strive and struggle andprove
yourselves worthy of Almighty Allah."[Synopsis of Surah Al-Tawbah
Verses 30-42]Wa
Ba'd:Almighty Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala
appointed the Ummah of His Beloved Nabee Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam as
the torchbearers of humanity and to testify to the Absolute Truth because the
success of humanity depends upon the Muslim nation leading mankind onto the
Straight Path...the Path of Seerathal Mustaqeem. The world today is in chaos and
we have reached the stage in the history of our nation that was predicted by our
Beloved Nabee Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam over fourteen hundred years ago when
he said:"Soon there will be nations who will pounce uponyou just
like an animal would pounce of his prey."[Abu Daud and
Baihaqi].Alas it is indeed so very sad to note that we were warned of
what would happen to us when the forces of evil would pave and prepare the way
for the inevitable coming of their leader the accursed Dajjal Lanatullahi Alay.
We have known about it for the past fourteen hundred years but we have continued
to wander through life in a deep slumber, confused, disunited, ignorant and
chasing after name and fame and amassing the treasures of the Doonya.
We continue to witness the approaching disaster almost on a daily
basis. The rape, the plunder, the brutality and genocide against the Muslims in
Palestine, Iraq, Afghanistan, Kashmir, Algeria, the Caucasus, Bosnia, Chechnya,
the Philippines, Thailand Kosova, and in parts of India as well as in so-called
Muslim Countries. The annihilation of the Muslim nation continues with
little assistance from the international community to bring this madness to an
end. Everyday, the ungodly signs of approaching doom seems evident with
greater frequency just like the scattering of the beads from a snapped Tasbee
[rosary]. Very plainly speaking -Islam and the Muslim Ummah are under
siege. When will we, who have been raised for the benefit of mankind, awake from
our deep slumber and start analyzing the situation from an Islamic perspective?
How long will we continue to wait before we chalk out a correct line of
action to follow in order to fulfill our divine duty for the salvation of
mankind? Is it not true that we have not awakened as yet from our very deep
slumber. The Muslim nation is passing through a time of unprecedented
stress and gravity, a time that calls for the utmost moral and physical effort
on the part of every individual Muslim. It is precisely because of our lack of
spiritual integrity that we have fallen so low and unless we regain it quickly
we will remain lost in the wilderness of confusion. I am addressing my concerned
brothers and sisters in Islam who realise the desperate crisis confronting the
entire Muslim nation. Islam is under siege and the genocide being perpetrated
against the Ummah continues unchallenged in many circumstances. I am
talking and addressing all those who are concerned and dedicated to the Divine
Truth, the whole Truth. I am talking about the Absolute Truth that Islam
has to offer to the world and to a confused humanity. I am talking to
those Muslims who have the courage to face the facts as they are and who, in
short, desire not only to serve the Glorious Din of Al-Islam. I am talking to
those Muslims who live Islam totally and completely for the Pleasure of none
other than Almighty Allah Tabaraka Wata'ala. Our Beloved Nabee
Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam said that the rightful believers would face extreme
trials and tribulations. Since the birth of Nabee Adam Alayhis Salaam to the Day
of Reckoning, there will be no greater danger to fear than the tribulations of
Dajjal. This will be the most difficult period in the life of the Muslim nation
till Kiyamah. [Sahih al-Bukhari]. Yes, we have now entered that
phase. At a time like this, it is imperative that we begin to take stock of our
lives as Muslims and show that our faith in Almighty Allah Azza Wajjal is strong
enough to withstand the pressure of these hard and difficult times. We cannot go
on like this at this crucial juncture in the history of our nation when the
entire Muslim world is in the throes of a crisis that may jeopardize Islam's
validity as a way of life for a long time to come. Let us be honest with
ourselves and admit that we have strayed far away, indeed, from the ideology
provided by the Glorious Qur'an and Sunnah. The appearance of
Dajjal will be possible, only when Shaytaan has consolidated his hold on the
world, to the uttermost extent. That means that satanic concepts and systems
will dominate all other

Subject: FARMERS SEEDS OUTLAWED IN IRAQ

IRAQI ORDER
81
by Rosemarie Jackowski

...and they said that we were there to bring freedom and liberty...it is
time to tell the troops the truth.
How did this happen? While few of us were paying attention, the Coalition
Provisional Authority, representing the government of the United States, imposed
a set of 100 orders on Iraq. A careful examination of these orders could lead to
the conclusion that the war is being waged to enrich corporations at the expense
of the ordinary citizens. Many of these orders take freedom and liberty away
from the people of Iraq. The orders also have a profound effect on us.
Iraqi Order 81is of special interest
because it goes a long way in affecting every living being on the planet. This
order prohibits Iraqi farmers from using the methods of agriculture that they
have used for centuries. The common worldwide practice of saving heirloom seeds
from one year to the next is now illegal in Iraq. Order 81 wages war on Iraqi
farmers. They have lost the freedom and liberty to choose their own methods of
agriculture. The food chain has been under worldwide
assault by U.S. corporations for some time now. The Master Race of corporations
has seized control of the very essence of life itself. We are now in the age of
Genetically Modified Doomsday Seeds. This is not exactly a new
phenomenon. It has been a gradual takeover. Remember Percy Schmeiser, the
Canadian farmer, who was sued by Monsanto? Not enough people stood up for
Percey, so then they came for other farmers. In fact, Monsanto has sued so many
farmers that a national hotline (1-888-FARMHLP) has now been set up to assist
them. Those who have been pushing for Tort Reform never mention the
frivolous, mean-spirited lawsuits brought by Monsanto against U.S. farmers. This
is a David and Goliath battle and, as usual, our government is on the side of
Goliath. Order 81 now spreads the assault on farmers to Iraq. The domino effect
is underway. The victim farmers in the U.S., Iraq, Canada, and all of the other
countries who have been under attack by Monsanto need our help. The Tort Reform
that is really needed would be reform aimed at compensating victims of corporate
intimidation. The corporations, backed up by the
Pentagon, have been jackbooting and goose stepping their way across the planet.
Whether you like it or not, you probably will have some franken food on your
dinner plate tonight... franken foods, grown from franken seeds, brought to you
compliments of the Franken Empire. Our own USDA was complicit in the development
of Terminator seeds. Picture Dr. Strangelove on the John Deere.
The existence of Order 81, and the other 99 orders,
which limit Iraqi liberty and freedom, creates some interesting questions. How
can Washington even pretend that the election in Iraq is legitimate if U.S.
imposed rules are enforced after the election, or are we to believe that the 100
Orders are canceled by the election? I don't think so. Is it
possible that Iraqi farmers think back fondly to the good old days before the
Occupation and before Order 81? Even Saddam Hussein allowed them to save seeds
for the next year's crop. Is Monsanto a worse master than Saddam? Imagine what
would happen if there was a successful worldwide movement of resistance, an
international Save the Seed Campaign. Farmers and consumers in the U.S. need to
stand in solidarity with the farmers and consumers in Iraq. If you have a stamp
or coin collection, forget it. Instead, it might be better to start collecting
seeds. Maybe soon, one good old-fashioned seed that was made by Mother Nature
will be more precious than your most prized gold coin. Just
one more thing... if you save seeds, keep it a secret. The Seed Police have been
on patrol. They are looking for you. On Town
Meeting Day, 2004, in Vermont, the citizens in seventy-nine towns passed
resolutions against Genetically Engineered Crops. Then Vermont made history when
it became the first state to require the labeling of Genetically Modified seeds.
"The Farmer Protection Act is a pre-emptive strike to stop predatory lawsuits
against Vermont's family farmers by biotech companies like Monsanto," said Ben
Davis with the Vermont Public Interest Research Group. Maybe this small, but
hard-fought, victory gives reason to hope for a better
world.Rosemarie Jackowski([EMAIL PROTECTED]) is a member
of Southern Vermont VFP Chapter 88. She was arrested, tried, and convicted
for having participated in a peaceful protest against the war. The
Conviction is currently under Appeal in the Vermont State Supreme
Court.

{Invite (mankind, O Muhammad ) to the Way of your Lord (i.e. Islam) with wisdom (i.e. with the Divine Inspiration and the Qur'an) and fair preaching, and argue with them in a way that is better. Truly, your Lord knows best who has gone astray from His Path, and He is the Best Aware of those who are guided.}
(Holy Quran-16:125)

{And who is better in speech than he who [says: My Lord is Allah (believes in His Oneness), and then stands straight (acts upon His Order), and] invites (men) to Allah's (Islamic Monotheism), and does righteous deeds, and says: I am one of the Muslims.} (Holy Quran-41:33)

The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: By Allah, if Allah guides one person by you, it is better for you than the best types of camels. [al-Bukhaaree, Muslim]

The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also said, Whoever calls to guidance will have a reward similar to the reward of the one who follows him, without the reward of either of them being lessened at all.
[Muslim, Ahmad, Aboo Daawood, an-Nasaa'ee, at-Tirmidhee, Ibn Maajah]
