[IslamCity] Eating habits and the diet of the Prophet (PBUH)

2006-01-23 Thread Mohammed A

The Prophet’s (PBUH - peace be upon him) guidance with regard to food is perfect guidance. It was described by Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) as follows:When he (the Prophet) put his hand in the food, he would say, “Bismillaah (in the Name of Allaah), and he told people to say this when eating. He said, “When any one of you eats, let him mention the name of Allaah. If he forgets to mention the name of Allaah at the beginning, let him say Bismillaahi fi awwalihi wa aakhirihi (in the name of Allaah at its beginning and at its end).” Saheeh hadeeth, narrated by al-Tirmidhi (1859) and Abu Dawood (3767).The correct view is that it is obligatory to mention the name of Allaah (say Bismillaah) when eating. The ahaadeeth which state this are saheeh (authentic) and are clear, with no contradictions in them. When he
raised the food to his mouth, he would say, Allaah be praised with an abundant, beautiful, blessed praise. He is the One Who is Sufficient, Who feeds and is never fed, The One Who is longed for, along with that which is with Him, and the One Who is needed. He is Our Lord, may He be glorified. Narrated by al-Bukhaari (5142).He never criticized food at all. If he liked it, he would eat it, and if he did not like it, he would leave it and not say anything. Narrated by al-Bukhaari (3370) and Muslim (2064).Or he would say, “I do not feel like eating this.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari (5076) and Muslim (1946).Sometimes he would praise the food, as when he asked his family for food, and they said, “We have nothing but vinegar.” He asked for it and started to eat it, saying, “What a good food is vinegar.” Narrated by
Muslim (2052)And he said to his step-son ‘Umar ibn Abi Salamah (ra - may Allah be pleased with him) when he was eating with him: “Say Bismillaah and eat from that which is in front of you in the dish*.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari (5061) and Muslim (2022). [* At the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), people used to eat together from one dish, and children would sometimes forget the correct etiquette. - Translator]He would repeatedly urge his guests to eat, as generous hosts do, and as is seen in the hadeeth of Abu Hurayrah (ra - May Allah be pleased with him), narrated by al-Bukhaari, about the story of drinking milk, where he repeatedly said to him, “Drink” and he kept telling him to drink until he (the guest) said, “By the One Who sent you with the truth, I have no more room for it!” Narrated by al-Bukhaari
(6087).When he ate with others, he would not leave until he had made du’aa’ (supplication)for them. He made du’aa in the house of ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Bisr (ra), and said: “O Allaah, bless for them that which You have provided for them, forgive them and have mercy on them.” Narrated by Muslim (2042).He commanded people to eat with their right hands and forbade them to eat with their left hands. He said, “The Shaytaan (the devil) eats with his left hand and drinks with his left hand.” Narrated by Muslim (2020). This implies that eating with the left hand is haraam (forbiden), and this is the correct view, because the one who eats with his left hand is either a shaytaan (a devil), or he is imitating the Shaytaan. It was also reported in a saheeh hadeeth that he told a man who was eating with his left hand in his presence,
“Eat with your right hand!” The man said, “I cannot.” He said, “May you never be able to!” – and the man never lifted his right hand to his mouth after that. Narrated by Muslim (2021). If it was permissible (to eat with the left hand), he would not have prayed against him for doing so. It was the man’s stubborn arrogance that made him refuse to obey the command, and this is the utmost disobedience which deserved this prayer against him.He commanded those who complained that they never felt full to eat together and not separately, and to mention the name of Allaah (say Bismillaah) over the food so that He might bless it for them.” Narrated by Abu Dawood (3764) and Ibn Maajah (3286). It was also reported that he said, “I do not eat reclining.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 5083.He used to eat using the first three
fingers (of his right hand), which is the best way of eating. The Prophet’s guidance regarding diet:
1, The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to know what he was eating.2, He used to eat what was good for him.3, He used to eat enough to keep him going, but no so much as to make him fat. Ibn ‘Umar (ra - may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The believer eats in one stomach whilst the kaafir (dis-believer) eats in seven.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari (5081) and Muslim (2060).4, He taught his ummah something to protect them from diseases caused by eating and drinking. He said: “The son of Adam does not fill any vessel worse than his stomach. It is sufficient for the son of Adam to eat a few mouthfuls, to keep him going. If he must do that (fill his

[IslamCity] NEWS: Pilgrimage Insurance Proposed for Haj

2006-01-23 Thread Abdul Alim

Saturday, 21, January, 2006 (21, Dhul Hijjah, 1426)Pilgrimage Insurance ProposedP.K. Abdul Ghafour, Arab News JEDDAH, 21 January 2006 — A prominent insurance expert has called for the introduction of insurance service to foreign pilgrims coming for Haj and Umrah as part of the government’s efforts to provide them with better health services and facilities.Dr. Abdalelah Saaty, chairman of the insurance council at Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, however, said such insurance policies should not be made mandatory on pilgrims. “It will not be possible to impose insurance on all pilgrims,” Saaty told Arab News.He said a number of Saudi companies have already expressed their desire to offer a variety of insurance policies to pilgrims, covering services such as health care, lost baggage, accommodation, air ticket and airlift of body in case of death.“Insurance is good for pilgrims as it’ll help them receive better services in addition to the services offered by the government,” Saaty pointed out. He said insurance premiums for such services must be moderate and affordable to
pilgrims.According to a report carried by Al-Watan Arabic daily yesterday, Health Minister Dr. Hamad Al-Manie has already presented a study on the possibility of applying health insurance on foreign pilgrims and visitors to higher authorities.“Such a scheme is already in place in many other countries where insurance premiums are added to ticket fares of visitors,” the paper said quoting Dr. Yasser Al-Ghamdi, director general of health in the Makkah region. However, Al-Ghamdi said the plan to introduce health insurance on foreign pilgrims was still being studied by the Council of Ministers.“Once the scheme is
approved, insurance companies will be allowed to provide the service to Haj and Umrah pilgrims as well as other foreign visitors,” he added. Saaty, who is professor of insurance at King Abdul Aziz University in Jeddah, said a good number of (at least 10,000) pilgrims should join the scheme to make it feasible. He said such insurance services should be approved first by the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency (SAMA), which must make sure that the insurance companies fulfilled their promises to the pilgrims. “As the service is provided to people from other countries, a government body like SAMA should oversee the service to make sure that it is done in the right manner,” he said.Saaty favored a gradual
implementation of the service in coordination with the Haj and health ministries. He disclosed that some Southeast Asian pilgrims were already enjoying the fruit of such insurance services. http://www.arabnews.com/?page=1section=0article=76589d=21m=1y=2006

[IslamCity] CHRISTIAN UK REGULARLY BEATS, INSULTS ABUSES ITS ELDERLY

2006-01-23 Thread assalamu_alaikum_1426
Assalamu aleikum.

...only two per cent thought it is an important issue. It rated way
below animal welfare which 17 per cent thought was important...

---

EXCLUSIVE: HURT THE AGED
EXCLUSIVE ½ million regularly hit insulted abused
Report tells of shock levels across the nation
But only one in 50 think it's a big problem
By Bob Roberts, Deputy Political Editor
Daily Mirror
23 January 2006
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/tm_objectid=616224%26method==full%26siteid=”762%26headline==exclusive%2d%2dhurt%2dthe%2daged-name_page.html

HALF a million old people are regularly beaten, insulted and abused, a
shock new report will show this week.

It will reveal staggering levels of elder abuse in the UK.

But only one-in-50 people regard it as a serious problem - way below
the number concerned about animal cruelty, the environment and
tackling poverty. Pressure group Help the Aged is to launch a new
campaign to urge the Government to take more action against those
people who bully or attack OAPs.

The group said there are shocking levels of ignorance about the issue.

Its report found that up to 500,000 elderly people are being
physically, emotionally or sexually abused in the UK.

Two-thirds of abuse is committed in private homes of elderly people by
those meant to be caring for them. The rest is in care homes.

And three-quarters of those abused are over 70.

But an opinion poll also found there was little public recognition of
the problem.

The report found only two per cent thought it is an important issue.
It rated way below animal welfare which 17 per cent thought was
important, poverty (nine per cent) and the environment (three per
cent). A spokesman for Help The Aged said: We are committed to
stopping this abuse.

We aim to get a 25,000-sig-nature petition so we have a strong case
for demanding Government action.

The campaign is backed by campaign group Action on Elder Abuse which
believes the mistreatment of thousands of elderly is the last hidden
scandal. It also comes after the Mirror exposed a sickening catalogue
of torture, abuse and neglect in nursing homes.

Our 2004 investigation found cases like Honora Derham, 82, who died in
agony after nursing home staff failed to notice bed sores were slowly
rotting away her body.

And Dorothy Lyons, 76, was neglected so badly she weighed a mere
3st9lbs when she died in a care home.

Ministers have faced previous demands to tighten protection on the
elderly.

But so far pressure groups say there has been little or no Government
response.

[IslamCity] What is the ruling on reducing the hair of the eyebrows?

2006-01-23 Thread Mohammed Irfanullah

What is the ruling on reducing the hair of the eyebrows?Answer : Praise be to Allaah. If that is done by means of plucking, then it is haraam, and indeed it is one of the major sins, because it is the “namas” for which the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) cursed the one who does it. But if it is done by cutting or shaving, then it was regarded as makrooh by some scholars and forbidden by others who regarded it as a kind of “namas”. They said: “ ‘Namas’ does not only mean plucking, rather it is a general word which includes all ways of changing the hair for which Allaah has
not granted permission, if it is on the face.” But what we think is that women should not do that unless the hair of the eyebrows is so thick that it hangs down over the eyes and affects her vision, in which case it is o.k. to remove that which is causing the problem.Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen, part 3, p. 866 (www.islam-qa.com) Question : I have come across various Islamic articles write-ups that have spoken against shaving of hair on eyebrows amongst other areas of the body. I however need clarification on this does this shaving refer to TOTAL shaving? Am I allowed to reduce the amount of hair by mere shaping
? I have very bushy eyebrows that need trimming as it makes my face look crowded. Answer : Praise be to Allaah. We will quote for you the fatwas issued by the scholars concerning the ruling on removing hair from the eyebrows and hair from the rest of the body. Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: “If removing hair from the eyebrows is done by plucking, this is namas (plucking the eyebrows) and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) cursed the naamisah (the woman who plucks eyebrows) and the mutanammisah (the
woman who has her eyebrows plucked). This is a major sin, and women are singled out in this ruling because they are the ones who usually do this, for the purpose of beautification, but if a man were to do it he would also be cursed, just as a woman is cursed for doing this, Allaah forbid. If hair is removed from the eyebrows by a method other than plucking, such as by cutting or shaving, some of the scholars regard this as being the same as plucking, because it is changing the creation of Allaah, so there is no difference between plucking, cutting or shaving. This is undoubtedly more on the safe side, so a person must avoid that, whether man or woman.” (Quoted from Fataawa ‘Ulama’ al-Balad al-Haraam, p. 577) The following question was mentioned in Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah (5/196): A young woman has very thick eyebrows that make her look bad. This girl was forced to shave part of the area between the eyebrows and to reduce the rest so that she will look acceptable to her husband. The Committee replied: “It is not permissible to shave the eyebrows or reduce then, because that is the namas (plucking) for which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) cursed the one who does it and the one who asks for it to be done. What you must
do is repent and pray for forgiveness for what you have done in the past, and beware of that in the future. Another question (5/195) was put to the Committee: Namas means removing some of the hair of the eyebrows, and is not permitted, because the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) cursed the woman who plucks her eyebrows and the one who has that done, but it is permissible for a woman to remove a beard or moustache, if one grows, or hair from her legs or arms.” The hadeeth which says that the woman who plucks the eyebrows or who has that done is
cursed was narrated by al-Bukhaari (4886) and Muslim (2125), from the hadeeth of ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Mas’ood (may Allaah be pleased with him). The point is that it is haraam to remove any hair from the eyebrows, whether all the hair is removed by shaving, or some of it is removed by cutting. Anything apart from that is permissible, such as removing hair from the arms and legs, and the area between the eyebrows. The following appeared in Fataawa al-Lajnah (5/197): Question: What is the ruling on plucking the hair between the eyebrows? Answer: It is permissible to pluck it, because it is not part of the eyebrows.

[IslamCity] NEWS: FBI calls Jamaat al Tabligh 'Undesignated' Terror Group

2006-01-23 Thread Abdul Alim

Feds: Arizonan tied to terror Officials detain Tempe doctor Dennis Wagner The Arizona Republic Jan. 19, 2006 12:00 AM An Arizona doctor and mosque leader returned to the United States on Wednesday from a pilgrimage in Mecca to face allegations by the FBI and Department of Homeland Security tying him to a terrorist organization. Nadeem Hassan, 41,
made a phone call to his father from Kennedy International Airport in New York, saying he was in the custody of immigration officials.Zaheer Hasnain said his son does not know whether he will be jailed or allowed to come home. Days earlier, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services revoked Hassan's right to work and travel inside the country based primarily on his ties to an orthodox Islamic missionary group that the Department of Homeland Security identified as a terrorist organization. Hassan, a gastroenterologist at Maricopa Medical Center and former chief executive at the Masjid el-Noor Mosque in Mesa, has worked for years as a coordinator with Jamaat al Tabligh (Society That Propagates the Faith). The worldwide movement calls upon Muslims to live up to their faith. Jamaat al Tabligh, or JT, previously has not been designated a terrorist group by the government. However, in paperwork rejecting Hassan's application for a green
card, Homeland Security described JT as "a terrorist organization (that) . . provides material support . . . to members of a designated terrorist organization - al Qaida; and provides the same types of material support . . to an undesignated terrorist organization - the Taliban." The papers go on to tell Hassan, "You are found to have engaged in terrorist activity by providing material support to an undesignated terrorist organization."Homeland Security representatives declined Wednesday to discuss Hassan's case. An FBI spokeswoman declined to comment. Muslim officials expressed shock at the accusations against Jamaat al Tabligh, insisting it is a loose-knit missionary movement that shuns politics and violence. Hasnain said that his son is not a terrorist and that JT "has nothing to do with the Taliban, nothing to do with al-Qaida." "It is a totally god-fearing organization," he added. He said his son, of Tempe, was determined to come home
despite fears he would face prison and deportation after his arrival from the Middle East. Hassan traveled to Saudi Arabia for the Islamic religious rite known as hajj, according to his Phoenix immigration lawyer, Eric Bjotvedt. He obtained "advance parole" papers approving that trip while the green-card application was pending. However, on Friday, while Hassan was overseas, Citizenship and Immigration Services denied his permanent residency permit. Because Hassan was outside the country, Bjotvedt said, he lost many legal rights afforded to immigrants who are inside the United States. "They don't have a case against him. But they don't like him. So this is just a perfect way to keep him out of the country," Bjotvedt said. "If he was really a terrorist, he'd be in jail right now. Obviously, he wouldn't be trying to come back to the U.S."Bjotvedt complained that the government's allegations are vague. However, an eight-page CIS report that he supplied to The
Arizona Republic contains detailed explanations as to why Hassan's residency status was terminated. It says Hassan provided false information on application forms and failed to acknowledge his role with Jamaat al Tabligh. The agency's findings are supported by an affidavit from a Phoenix FBI agent, who wrote: "The JT has been tied to several recent high-profile terrorism cases. John Walker Lindh traveled to Pakistan with Tabligh missionaries after converting to Islam. Once in Pakistan, he signed up for a military training camp and fought for the Taliban." The agent also noted that, as former president and chief executive officer at the Masjid el-Noor mosque, Hassan invited "a known or suspected terrorist" to serve as visiting imam, or prayer leader. That imam's visa was revoked after a review by the government's Terrorist Screening Center, according to the agent. Finally, the FBI avowal tells of six Yemeni-American men from Lackawanna, N.Y., who traveled
to Pakistan in 2001 posing as JT missionaries, then crossed the border into Afghanistan and joined al-Qaida training camps. The FBI affidavit never directly identifies JT as a terrorist group. Rather, it says the movement "is vulnerable to being used by Islamic extremists as a cover to recruit members to engage in acts of terrorism against the United States." Because of that, the agent concluded, "the FBI is unable to rule out the possibility that Hassan poses a threat to national security." However, Al Gallmann, acting district director in Phoenix for the CIS, named Jamaat al Tabligh as a terrorist organization and branded Hassan as a supporter, citing the FBI intelligence.Besides concealing the affiliation with JT, Gallmann said, Hassan failed to disclose, as required,

[IslamCity] Dallas / Fort Worth Area Masajids Unite for an Islamic Charity Day Event Planning Meeting 1/29/06

MASJID OF AL-ISLAM A Religious Non-Profit 501 (c) (3) Organization January 22, 2006 Bismillah, FYIAlhumdullah, It is inspiring to witnesses the way this united charity effort evolved in a natural organic way, by following the deen of our religion and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad. It came about via an effort of masajids in the Dallas area coming together and using shura and concensus to strengthen their unity. One of the shura members related a successful project in which he was involved in Florida, and the group voted to implement that same type program in the Dallas / Fort Worth Area. This demonstrates the powerful benefit of practicing shura and consensus both within and among our masajids, as opposed to drawbacks of practicing dictatorial rulership.Peace Curtis Sharif Houston,

The origin of the idea came from our brothers in Tampa, Florida where our own Imam Zia (ICI) moved from recently. These brothers and sisters have been presenting the program for the last seven (7) or eight (8) years with great success. The article was in the “Horizons” (ISNA) Magazine. The Islamic Charity Day simply involves individual Muslims committing to give one “new” item to those in need. These new items include, but are not limited to: clothes, shoes, blankets, school supplies, toys, and non-perishable items. The plan, at least for our first event, is to collect items at strategic locations in the DFW Metroplex and distribute them at a central location in Dallas.A steering committee was assigned to perform the necessary “legwork”.The information gathered and developed into a plan of action will be presented at the meeting on Sunday, January 29.
Your attendance is critical to the success of the program. This event has monumental potential in helping to improve our public relations efforts, and to building relationships within our own Muslim Community. We plan to serve between 5,000 and 10,000 children, women, and men in need in our area. [IslamCity] THE VIRTUES OF ALLAH'S SACRED MONTH MUHARRAM - PART 5

2006-01-23 Thread Saba Khan
Bid’ahs common on ‘Aashooraa’

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on
him) was asked about the things that people do on
‘Aashooraa’, such as wearing kohl, taking a bath
(ghusl), wearing henna, shaking hands with one
another, cooking grains (huboob), showing happiness
and so on. Was any of this reported from the Prophet
(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) in a
saheeh hadeeth, or not? If nothing to that effect was
reported in a saheeh hadeeth, is doing these things
bid’ah, or not? Is there any basis for what the other
group do, such as grieving and mourning, going without
anything to drink, eulogizing and wailing, reciting in
a crazy manner, and rending their garments?
His reply was:
‘Praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the Worlds. Nothing
to that effect has been reported in any saheeh hadeeth
from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be
upon him) or from his Companions. None of the imaams
of the Muslims encouraged or recommended such things,
neither the four imaams, nor any others. No reliable
scholars have narrated anything like this, neither
from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be
upon him), nor from the Sahaabah, nor from the
Taabi’een; neither in any saheeh report or in a da’eef
(weak) report; neither in the books of Saheeh, nor in
al-Sunan, nor in the Musnads. No hadeeth of this
nature was known during the best centuries, but some
of the later narrators reported ahaadeeth like the one
which says, “Whoever puts kohl in his eyes on the day
of ‘Aashooraa’ will not suffer from eye disease in
that year, and whoever takes a bath (does ghusl) on
the day of ‘Aashooraa’ will not get sick in that
year,” and so on. They also reported a fabricated
hadeeth that is falsely attributed to the Prophet
(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), which
says, “Whoever is generous to his family on the day of
‘Aashooraa’, Allaah will be generous to him for the
rest of the year.” Reporting all of this from the
Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)
is tantamount to lying.’
Then he [Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him)]
discussed in brief the tribulations that had occurred
in the early days of this ummah and the killing of
al-Husayn (may Allaah be pleased with him), and what
the various sects had done because of this. Then he
said:
‘An ignorant, wrongful group – who were either
heretics and hypocrites, or misguided and misled –
made a show of allegiance to him and the members of
his household, so they took the day of ‘Aashooraa’ as
a day of mourning and wailing, in which they openly
displayed the rituals of jaahiliyyah such as slapping
their cheeks and rending their garments, grieving in
the manner of the jaahiliyyah… The Shaytaan made this
attractive to those who are misled, so they took the
day of ‘Aashooraa’ as an occasion of mourning, when
they grieve and wail, recite poems of grief and tell
stories filled with lies. Whatever truth there may be
in these stories serves no purpose other than the
renewal of their grief and sectarian feeling, and the
stirring up of hatred and hostility among the Muslims,
which they do by cursing those who came before them…
The evil and harm that they do to the Muslims cannot
be enumerated by any man, no matter how eloquent he
is. Some others – either Naasibis who oppose and have
enmity towards al-Husayn and his family or ignorant
people who try to fight evil with evil, corruption
with corruption, lies with lies and bid’ah with bid’ah
– opposed them by fabricating reports in favour of
making the day of ‘Aashooraa’ a day of celebration, by
wearing kohl and henna, spending money on one's
children, cooking special dishes and other things that
are done on Eids and special occasions. These people
took the day of ‘Aashooraa’ as a festival like Eid,
whereas the others took it as a day of mourning. Both
are wrong, and both go against the Sunnah, even though
the other group (those who take it as a day of
mourning) are worse in intention and more ignorant and
more plainly wrong… Neither the Prophet (peace and
blessings of Allaah be upon him) nor his successors
(the khulafa’ al-raashidoon) did any of these things
on the day of ‘Aashooraa’, they neither made it a day
of mourning nor a day of celebration…
As for the other things, such as cooking special
dishes with or without grains, or wearing new clothes,
or spending money on one’s family, or buying the
year’s supplies on that day, or doing special acts of
worship such as special prayers or deliberately
slaughtering an animal on that day, or saving some of
the meat of the sacrifice to cook with grains, or
wearing kohl and henna, or taking a bath (ghusl), or
shaking hands with one another, or visiting one
another, or visiting the mosques and mashhads
(shrines) and so on… all of this is reprehensible
bid’ah and is wrong. None of it has anything to do
with the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allaah (peace and
blessings of Allaah be upon him) or the way of the
Khulafa’ al-Raashidoon. It was not

 MONTH OF MUHARRAM - PART
 1

THE VIRTUES OF ALLAH’S SACRED MONTH OF MUHARRAM AND
 FASTING ON ‘AASHOORAA’
 Praise be to Allaah,
the Lord of the Worlds, and peace and blessings be
upon our Prophet Muhammad, the Seal of the Prophets
and Chief of the Messengers, and upon all his family
 and companions.
Allah’s sacred month of Muharram is a blessed and
important month. It is the first month of the Hijri
calendar and is one of the four sacred months
concerning which Allaah says (interpretation of the
 meaning):
“Verily, the number of months with Allaah is twelve
months (in a year), so it was ordained by Allaah on
 the Day when He created the heavens and the earth;
 of
them, four are sacred. That is the right religion,
 so
 wrong not yourselves therein…” [al-Tawbah 9:36]
Abu Bakrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) reported
that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be
upon him) said: “The year is twelve months of which
four are sacred, the three consecutive months of
Dhu’l-Qa’dah, Dhu’l-Hijjah and Muharram, and Rajab
Mudar which comes between Jumaada and Sha’baan.”
 (Reported by al-Bukhaari, 2958).
Muharram is so called because it is a sacred
(muharram) month and to confirm its sanctity.
Allaah’s words (interpretation of the meaning): “so
wrong not yourselves therein…” mean do not wrong
yourselves in these sacred months, because sin in
these months is worse than in other months.
It was reported that Ibn ‘Abbaas said that this
 phrase
(so wrong not yourselves therein…) referred to all
 the
months, then these four were singled out and made
sacred, so that sin in these months is more serious
and good deeds bring a greater reward.
Qutaadah said concerning this phrase (so wrong not
yourselves therein…) that wrongdoing during the
 sacred
months is more serious and more sinful that
 wrongdoing
at any other time. Wrongdoing at any time is a
 serious
matter, but Allaah gives more weight to whichever of
His commands He will. Allaah has chosen certain ones
of His creation. He has chosen from among the angels
Messengers and from among mankind Messengers. He
 chose
from among speech the remembrance of Him (dhikr). He
chose from among the earth the mosques, from among
 the
months Ramadaan and the sacred months, from among
 the
days Friday and from among the nights Laylat
 al-Qadr,
so venerate that which Allaah has told us to
 venerate.
People of understanding and wisdom venerate the
 things
that Allaah has told us to venerate. (Summarized
 from
the Tafseer of Ibn Katheer, may Allaah have mercy on
him. Tafseer of Surat al-Tawbah, aayah 36).

Brains not Body Criteria for Tatarstan "Miss
Muslim"

"You can be a Muslim and still do
whatever you want as long as it is moral and respectable," said Sadiqova.

By Damir Ahmed, IOL Correspondent
MOSCOW , January 21, 2006 (IslamOnline.net) – Morality and impressive
knowledge of Islam and other subjects were the basic criteria for choosing Dilar
Sadiqova as "Miss Muslim" in the eastern European country of
Tatarstan.
"I decided to take part in the competition to convey the message that you
can be a Muslim and still do whatever you want as long as it is moral and
respectable," Sadiqova told reporters after her acceptance speech.
"Thus, non-Muslims can have an undistorted vision of our religion," added
the 17-year-old high school student, who wish to be a school teacher.
There was no room in the competition for girls in swimsuits like the
traditional beauty pageants, but modestly-dressed and hijab-donned girls in
demure smiles, the organizers told IslamOnline.net.
Brains and religiosity set the tone for the unprecedented contest in
Tatarstan, where Muslims make up 60 percent of the country’s four million
population.
The competition included Qur’an memorization and recitation tests, as
well as a set of questions, testing cultural mettle of the 56
contesters.
They also took cooking and sewing tests for more points.
Only eight girls, aged 15-19, made it to the finals of the cut-throat
competition.
The ceremony was held at the Celebrations Hall of the Grand Mosque in the
capital city of Kazan . The audience were all females.
Encouraging Hijab
Saida Abukofa, the head of the jury, said the competition aims to
encourage more Muslim girls who do not wear hijab to take on the Islamic dress
code.
"They see their Muslim peers who wear hijab as beautiful, well-educated
and religious," she added.
"We want to show that beauty has nothing to do with nudity and
obscenity."
Under Islam, beauty contests in which women’s `awrah (parts of the body
which should not be exposed in front of others) is uncovered, are
prohibited.
Muslim scholars have called on Muslim countries to organize a "Miss
Morality" competition to offset the increasing interest by Muslim nations in
Western-styled beauty contests.

[IslamCity] Qur'an Brings Smile to Chechen Refugees in Austria

Qur'an Brings Smile to Chechen Refugees in Austria

By Ahmed Al-Matboli, IOL Correspondent
VIENNA, January 18, 2006 (IslamOnline.net) - Austrian Muslims have brought a
smile to dozens of Chechen faces who sought refuge in the European country with
the distribution of much-needed Russian translations of the meanings of the
Noble Qur'an.
We aim to closely knit Chechen families to their faith and to educate them
about Shari`ah and teach them Arabic to protect them from a ferocious
proselytizing campaign in the country, Fareed Soliman, who supervises the
distribution of the copies, told IslamOnline.net Tuesday, January 17.
Soliman, a physician, said 100 copies have been handed to 20 Chechen families
in a refugee camp outside the capital city of Vienna.
A Chechen woman refugee, who requested anonymity, said that her peers are
vulnerable to Christian proselytizers.
Church representatives are visiting us on a weekly basis, but we give them a
rowdy reception because we know their real intentions, she told IOL, adding
that they were trying their best to protect young generations.
Each mosque in Vienna also has now a copy to meet the needs of Chechen
worshippers.
I was approached by a Chechen the other day and at first glance I though he
was seeking shelter or cash, but I found out that he needed a Qur'an, which
moved me greatly, said Mohsen Ali, an engineer based in Vienna.
Sheikh Othman, a Chechen researcher in Shari`ah, said an Al-Azhar institute in
Vienna will assign Chechen tutors to teach children Arabic and help them
memorize the Noble Qur'an thanks to Austrian Muslims.
Muslims are estimated at 400,000 in Austria of the country's eight million
population. Islam, which was officially recognized in Austria in 1912 during
the reign of Czar Franz Joseph, is considered the second religion in the
country after Catholicism.
Chechen Mosque

An Austrian Muslim volunteer distributes copies of Qur'an in a Chechen
refugee camp.
But the most pressing demand by Chechens is to have a mosque in which sermons
and lectures are delivered in Russian, the mother tongue of the vast majority
of Chechen refugees.
Austrian Muslims had already raised funds for the mosque, but still need much
more to get basic amenities like electricity and heating systems.
There are between 18 and 20 thousand Chechen refugees in Austria's nine states.
Vienna alone is home to six thousands.
Only three Chechens have been granted Austrian citizenship so far, Sheikh
Othman noted.
Refugees are grateful to the Austrian government for the kind treatment. The
Refugees Authority provides Chechens with halal food and alcohol-free drinks.
The government body already pays each refugee in the country, whether Chechen
or not, a monthly sum of 40 euros in addition to a makeshift shelter and daily
hot meals.
The small mountainous republic of Chechnya has been ravaged by conflict since
1994, with just three years of relative peace after the first Russian invasion
of the region ended in August 1996 and the second began in October 1999.
At least 100,000 Chechen civilians and 10,000 Russian troops are estimated to
have been killed in both invasions, but human rights groups have said the real
numbers could be much higher.
The wars have forced up to half a million Chechens to flee the country to
neighboring and European countries. Women, who lost their husbands to the wars,
make up most of the refugees.

[IslamCity] Address Excerpts: : Imam W.D. Mohammed - Victimization of the Innocent / Conduct of War / Seeking World Dominance,

2006-01-23 Thread Curtis Sharif

Bislimmah, FYI Thanks to Imam Yahya Muldrow for posting this.Peace, Curtis Sharif Houston Texas"Victimization of the Innocent," the "Conduct of War" and the error of "Seeking World Dominance"Address by: Imam W Deen Mohammed – March 26, 1995 @ North Shore Congregational Israel SynagogueExcerpts:- "Religion has been revealed to men of God, It requires of man that he order his life and that he has a sense of government. It is intended to be for man a portable government. I take my Islam with me. I know the rules of my religion
that apply to my life as a person, as a follower. It governs my life. I take it with me to my home and my family accepts it. We have an Islamic government in our home. As much as we can, we have an Islamic government in our congregation, the Mosque that we attend. We encourage the members of the congregation to carry Islamic government with them wherever they go, and. as much as they can to exercise Islamic government and support Islamic government in their lives wherever they are."- "So Muslims are just not prepared to do anything to compete with war makers. I don't think we are here to compete with war makers. We are here to compete with peace makers. Maybe the war makers will get an advantage for a while, but in the long run we will be the victors, if we keep to Islamic ethics,
Islamic demands on our conduct, whether it's as a civilian or as a member of government or as a person whose civil rights have been denied him or a community or nation who is imposed upon by another community or nation. If we hold to our moral conduct dictated for us in Qur'an and hold to our ethical conduct dictated for us in Islam, in the long run we will be the victors."- "The Qur'an is also given to us by God for "healing what is in the hearts." I invite all Muslim leaders to register that verse in the Qur'an, that the Qur'an is for healing what is in the hearts."- "Allah says: "Any who desire a dominance or corruption, it will be denied." Both the dominance and the corruption will be denied. Many people desire to get a
dominance through corruption. Others would like to get a dominance so that they can corrupt. Either way, if you want that, God says that He denies you that. Islam is also against giving ourselves to extremism."- "Terrorism is an extreme. To be aware of it as an extreme, as a danger, and not discuss it with our leaders and in our mosques when we meet, tells me that there is something wrong with us. More of us have to address this issue of violence by terrorism"- "KINDNESS TO ENEMIES - We have examples of religious tolerance, The first is our Prophet Muhammed. When he succeeded because of God's will, when he became the victor in the wars that he had to fight, he returned to his native city Mecca, the venerable city, and he could have asked for retribution. He could have taken
reprisals if he wanted to. Instead, he asked the citizens if they would accept the peace - not Islam, "The Peace."- "He asked that they accept "The Peace." Isn't this what any civilized nation or any government would ask of those whom it's in a conflict with? If the conflict is resolved and they want to remain there in the country and enjoy the benefits of the country, they have to accept the peace. To accept the peace means to accept the order that supports, preserves and protects the peace. If they would do that, they would have citizenship and have no fear for their property and their lives. The Prophet said: "What has happened is forgiven, if you will accept the peace. Let there be no more bloodletting."
 - "Prophet Muhammed required that a savage give up his savagery, including his idols that he worshipped and that fed his savagery. He took the same position that great leaders of Christianity and Judaism took. And that is that the world should not be in the hands of savages. You have an obligation under God to spare the world the rule of savages or the oppression of ignorance. That was his position"- "Let the, bloodletting stop. Spill no blood, if you accept the peace, you have the same protection here that other citizens have. Have no fear for your property or for your lives." It was kindness to enemies, in the name of peace and for the sake of peace down, the road. Can't we do things to make a better world for the future, even if it hurts us to do it right now? It is a big sacrifice; but
look at what it will give us down the road."- "I want to say that we all are guilty, Muslims and Jews. And we know it. Let us do what our scriptures ask us to do. Seek to have the best behavior before God and man."- "Be attracted to that appetite and aspirations. God tells us in the Quran: "And take the best there of. . ." Why? Because it's no simple matter to give people direction or a pattern for their individual lives and for their national life. That's no small thing. In serving the great involved, complexed needs of man in the.society, there are

[IslamCity] NEWS: MPAC Responds to Latest Bin Laden Tape

2006-01-23 Thread Abdul Alim

MPAC RESPONDS TO LATEST BIN LADEN TAPE(Washington, DC - 1/19/06) -- The Muslim Public Affairs Council today called on American Muslims to be vigilant of potential threats to their nation, in response to the recently released threat against America allegedly issued by Osama bin Laden. In an audio tape aired this morning on Al-Jazeera, a voice identified as bin Laden states that "it's only a matter of time" before London-style attacks take place in the United States. He further threatens: "They are in the planning stages, and you will see them in the heart of your land as soon as the planning is complete, God
willing."SEE: "Purported Bin Laden Tape: 'It's Only a Matter of Time'" (CNN, 1/19/06)MPAC calls on all American Muslims to reach out to local law enforcement agencies that are engaged with their communities on a regular basis to offer support and assistance in protecting our nation. In May 2004, MPAC launched its National Grassroots Campaign to Fight Terrorism , a mosque-based program which is aimed at ensuring that American Muslim institutions are not leveraged by saboteurs to commit or plan acts of
terror. This morning, the Muslim Public Affairs Council called FBI headquarters to offer their support and services to aid in protective measures for our country in response to Bin Laden's message. The Muslim American community through its national organizations, community institutions and mosques is engaged with Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) officials across the nation in an ongoing cooperative, coordinated effort to protect our nation. Since 9/11, Muslim Americans have engaged in extensive counter-extremism and counter-terrorism efforts. Examples include the Council on American-Islamic Relations' "Not in Our Name" petition campaign andthe Muslim American Society's anti-terrorism campaign.Additionally, MPAC is taking the following steps: Contacting all mosques and student groups to be vigilant and to implement the Grassroots Campaign to Fight Terrorism (SEE: www.mpac.org/atc).Calling on Muslim leaders to reach out to the Joint Terrorism Task Force in their local regions.Calling on leaders of Friday congregational prayers (called "khateebs") to focus their sermons on
reminding their congregation that protecting the country is their Islamic duty. In addition to the threat articulated on the tape, Bin Laden also offers a "long-term truce" to the United States in order to allow the re-building of Iraq and Afghanistan. MPAC is appalled that Bin Laden, who has inspired and directed the killing of innocent Muslims and non-Muslims across the globe, would attempt to cast himself as a statesman, with religious and political authority to participate in negotiations. Any truce offer, if to be taken seriously, must be accompanied by a renouncement, or fatwa, against terrorism as a means of legitimate struggle in Islam. As a reflection of core Islamic teachings and Muslim sentiment worldwide, Bin Laden must categorically declare that Islam denounces terrorism. According to core Islamic teachings, innocent lives cannot be used as leverage to advance any agenda.MPAC remains committed to working for the advancement of peace and justice through legitimate, mainstream channels. As such, MPAC supports the people of Iraq and Afghanistan in their painstaking efforts to build sustainable and viable approaches to governance.
