[IslamCity] French Paper Reprints Explosive Danish Cartoons

(Reuters). Additional Reporting by Hadi Yahmid, IOL Correspondent PARIS, February 1, 2006 (IslamOnline.net News Agencies) Adding fuel to an already raging fire, a French newspaper Wednesday, February 1, reproduced a controversial set of caricatures decried in the Muslim world as blasphemous to prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and originally published in Denmark. Paris daily France Soir said it had decided to reprint them "not from an appetite for gratuitous provocation, but because they constitute the subject of a controversy on a global scale which has done nothing to maintain balance and mutual limits in democracy, respect of religious beliefs and freedom of _expression_," reported Agence France-Presse (AFP). "These 12 drawings could appear anodyne," but their publication, "which has tested the limits of the freedom of _expression_ in Denmark, has engendered a wave of indignation at anger in the Muslim world". It said in its editorial that the the Muslim Brotherhood, the Islamic Jihad, Syria, the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) and the Arab ministries of foreign affairs now blame the free secular and democratic world of publishing a dozen caricatures. Now they want an apology from a society characterized with freedom of _expression_ and religion at a time when they deny their peoples the right to free speech. It continued: We will give no heed to their objections and insist on drawing pictures of Muhammad, Jesus and Buddha, which has everything to do with the freedom of _expression_ we do enjoy in our society. Published last September by the Danish mass-circulation Jyllands-Posten, the 12 cartoons included portrayals of the Prophet wearing a time-bomb shaped turban and showed him as a knife-wielding nomad flanked by shrouded women. Initially passing with little comment, they were later reprinted in a Norwegian magazine, prompting an international uproar and calls for an apology from leading Muslim scholars and politicians alike. The newspaper apologized for offending Muslims by publishing the cartoons, saying, These cartoons were not in violation of Danish law but have irrefutably offended many Muslims, and for that we apologize. Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen expressed alarm Tuesday at the wave of anger in the Muslim world prompted by the caricatures. "We are up against uncontrollable forces. It will take a huge effort to calm things down," he told Danish media after the offices of the paper which first published the controversial cartoons were evacuated following a bomb scare. Punishment "Why do they talk about democracy and freedom of _expression_ just when the issue concerns Islam?, said Moussa. But the furor in the Arab and Muslim worlds after the apology is far from being over with Arab interior ministers saying Denmark should punish the newspaper. "We ask the Danish authorities to take the necessary measures to punish those responsible of this harm and to take action to avoid its repeat," the ministers said in a statement carried by Reuters. The statement came at the end of two-day meeting in Tunis to discuss ways of strengthening cooperation against terrorism in the region. Muslim scholars and other opinion leaders in the Muslim world also asked for the newspaper to be punished to avoid the publication of a similarly offensive material in future. Diplomats said it would be a political blunder for the ministers who are at the forefront of the fight against extremists to avoid the issue of the Danish cartoons and appear unenthusiastic defenders of Prophet Muhammad. Arab commentators dismissed the argument that Danish traditions of tolerance and respect for press freedoms barred the government from taking action against the newspaper. "Why do they talk about democracy and freedom of _expression_ just when the issue concerns Islam? If it concerns other religions the facts will change", said Amr Moussa, the Arab League chief, who attended the gathering. Malaysian Protest Also an influential Malaysian Muslim organization Wednesday urged the government to protest to Denmark over the caricatures. The Muslim Consumers Association of Malaysia, which claims 100,000 members, also called on Copenhagen to apologize over the 12 cartoons. "As a

[IslamCity] DANISH SHIPPING LINE MAERSK CONTROLS IRAQI SEAPORT
Iraqi Port Weathers Danish Storm by Lotte Folke Kaarsholm, Charlotte Aagaard and Osama Al-Habahbeh, Special to CorpWatch January 31st, 2006 http://www.corpwatch.org/article.php?id=13196 - photo: cartoon by Khalil Bendib http://www.corpwatch.org/img/original/Maersk.jpg - Khor az-Zubayr, a port in southern Iraq, did not seem like a war prize when the Saddam Hussein's regime was ousted in April 2003. Its waters were clogged with ships wrecked in the Iran-Iraq war; it was much smaller than the nearby port Umm Qasr; and much of it was too shallow for ocean-going ships to navigate. But Danish port operator and shipping giant A.P.Moeller Maersk saw beyond the flaws. Maersk knew that Khor az-Zubayr was one of just two outlets on Iraq's short Gulf coastline that opens the country to world trade. Across the wetlands that backed the port town was a gigantic oil refinery with pipelines leading straight to Khor az-Zubayr. By May 2003, obscured by the fog of war, Maersk had taken control of the port. There is no evidence on whether this was legal or not but many have speculated that the take-over was rigged to reward Denmark and Maersk for their support of the United States invasion of Iraq. What is known is that a senior Maersk employee was also working for the government authority that was in charge of the port at the time. Maersk had found themselves a jewel, if they could get that port up and running, U.S. Ambassador Darrell Trent told our reporting team in November 2005. Trent, who had served under Presidents Nixon and Reagan, was in charge of Iraq's transport ministry until the summer of 2004. Lots of people were trying to make use of the chaotic situation to get themselves lucrative contracts, said Trent. But Maersk were the most blatant of them all and openly took advantage of the situation. (They) presented us with a contract that had been signed by a low-ranking officer of the U.S. military who had no authorization to make such a deal. He called the terms of the contract so favorable to Maersk that it was almost ridiculous. Maersk got 93 percent of all port fees plus almost $15,000 a day. Shipping Giant Maersk, Denmark's largest company, had positioned itself well for that advantage. Starting in August 2002, Maersk's giant container ships had delivered a third of all U.S. military equipment to the region, in preparation for the invasion of Iraq. The company had the connections, resources and experience to develop the port: it owns large parts of the Danish oil reservoirs in the North Sea, has very close ties with the government as well as the Danish royal family, and accounts for about 15 percent of the Danish gross national product. Its global projects, worth billions, include ports in China North Sea oil fields, giant ships, and it controls much of the world's container stock. But Copenhagen remains Maersk's headquarters and Denmark's membership in the partnership of the willing has created close ties to Washington. On May 1, 2003, the same day President Bush declared an end to the Iraq war, Danish ambassador in Damascus, Ole Woehlers Olsen, was appointed as the governor and regional chief of the American-led administration of southern Iraq. Woehlers' appointment was widely seen as payback for Denmark's participation in the U.S. dominated coalition. Maersk's claim on the port of Khor az-Zubayr soon followed. Spring 2003: Preperations, Then Chaos Just when, how, or even if, Maersk took over the port of Khor az-Zubayr is subject to much dispute. But there is not much doubt that the giant shipping company started jockeying for lucrative reconstruction contracts well before Saddam Hussein's fall. Maersk's Executive Vice President Knud Pontoppidan told our reporting team that Maersk began managing the port as early as May 2003. But Governor Ole Woehlers Olsen, who was in charge of the area, said he was surprised to hear Maersk's claim. I myself did not have the authority to sign such a contract but I passed on the offer to Baghdad with my recommendations, says Woehlers. When I left Iraq again on July 18, Maersk's offer on the management of the port had not yet made its way through the bureaucracy in Baghdad. Summer 2003: The Contract That June, while Woehlers was packing his bags in Basra after an unusually short, three-month term as governor, Ambassador Trent and his deputy, Frank Willis, were arriving in Baghdad. For more than a year, as part of Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA), led by U.S. Ambassador Paul Bremer, Trent would run Iraq's transport authority first as the de facto transport minister in the U.S.-led administration, then as the senior advisor to the U.S.-appointed Transport Minister Benham Zayya Polis. One of the first problems Trent encountered was a complaint from Iraqi port employees in Khor az-Zubayr. They charged that a Danish company, claiming CPA authorization, was keeping them out of their workplace. Frank Willis said he couldn't believe his eyes when he saw the
[IslamCity] Recognizing Israel No Must for Hamas Gov't: Official
Recognizing Israel No Must for Hamas Govt: Official Suleiman has reportedly said that Abbas would not ask Hamas to form a government unless the group recognizes Israel. CAIRO, February 1, 2006 (IslalmOnline.net News Agencies) A Palestinian Authority official denied Wednesday, February 1, news reports that the Palestinian resistance group Hamas would have to recognize Israel to join the next government as the group hints at renewing last year's expired ceasefire with Israel. The Palestinian official said on condition of anonymity that formal recognition of Israel would not be a prerequisite for Hamas or any other Palestinian group joining the new government, Reuters reported. Egyptian Intelligence Chief Omar Suleiman reportedly said on Wednesday that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who held talks with Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak, would not ask Hamas to form a government unless the group recognized Israel and stop violence. Suleiman is Mubarak's pointman on dealings with the Palestinians. He has mediated between Hamas and Abbas's Fatah movement, on the one hand, and between Israelis and Palestinians, on the other. Hamas has swept the Palestinian legislative elections, winning a surprising 74 of the 132-seat legislature, against 45 for the ruling Fatah party. The resistance group has come under mounting pressures from Western countries to recognize Israel to secure flow of foreign aid to the Palestinians. The Middle East peacemaking Quartet, which groups the US, EU, Russia and the UN, warned Monday, January 30, that payments to the Palestinians would be under threat if Hamas did not radically alter its principle on Israel's recognition before entering government. Reacting to the Quartet demands, the resistance group accused the West of blackmailing. Past Agreements Abu Marzouk said Hamas could renew last year's ceasefire with Israel. The Palestinian official, who is close to Abbas, stressed that the new government must commit itself to implementing agreements with Israel. "President (Mahmoud) Abbas's position is that he will ask any government to work on implementing the commitments of the Palestinian Authority, including an interim peace accord from 1993 and the US-backed peace roadmap," the official said. "This has been his position and he has declared it immediately after the election," he added. In an interview with Egypt's independent daily Al Masry Al Yom, Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit said Hamas might be willing to coexist with Israel if Israel returns to the 1967 borders. "I believe that Hamas is talking about the borders of 1967 and in this they do not differ much from all the Palestinian national currents or the Arab proposal," he said. Being in office would have an effect on Hamas thinking, he said. "The whole dossier will be in its hands, which leads me to believe that logically it (Hamas) will be compelled towards the greatest degree of flexibility." A delegation from Hamas crossed into Egypt Wednesday and was due to hold talks in Cairo on the first leg of a tour of Arab countries. Palestinian representative to the Arab League Mohammed Sobeih told Agence France-Presse (AFP) earlier that a meeting was scheduled to take place in Gaza Friday, February 3, during which Abbas and Hamas officials were expected to discuss the formation of the government. Truce A senior Hamas figure, meanwhile, said the resistance group could renew last year's ceasefire with Israel to placate Western countries concerned after the group's stunning electoral victory. "We understand that they (the Western states) need a quiet region, without conflicts, and we know that it's possible to attain this goal. Truce is one of the projects through which we could deal with," Hamas politburo deputy-chief Moussa told reporters. "I believe that this (ceasefire) would placate everybody if they understand Hamas's stand and talk to Hamas on these grounds." "I believe that this is one of the options which we could propose in the future to cooperate with the international community to bring about peace and tranquillity to this region," he added. Palestinian resistance factions had observed a de facto truce since Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas was elected in January,

"I felt humiliated," said 37-year old Mujaahidah Sayfullah, who has worn her head-scarf in court before. She says she couldn't believe it when first the bailiff and then Tacoma Municipal Court Judge David Ladenburg told her as she sat in the audience that either her head-scarf could go -- or she could. "He said, 'well, if you're not gonna do it then I'm going to have to ask you to remove yourself from the courtroom,' " she said. She left, fearing the judge would take it out on the relative who was on trial. Judge Ladenburg stands by his decision "It's my understanding and belief that the Muslim religion does not prohibit the removal of head-coverings either for males of for females," he says...noting that unless he learns that an exception should be made, there's a courtroom standard that must be upheld. Ladenburg says it wasn't religious discrimination...but Mujaahidah says it sure felt like it, and that's why she's telling her story. "Just for it to be exposed, and the public be aware that people are able to blatantly discriminate based upon their position of power," she said. From: Media Watch Sent: Tuesday, January 31, 2006 6:03 AM Subject: Boycot Affects 100%: Naif Urges Muslim Stand on Cartoons Naif Urges Muslim Stand on CartoonsArab News - 31 January 2006 http://www.arabnews.com/?page=1section=0article=77089d=31m=1y=2006pix=kingdom.jpgcategory=Kingdom TUNIS, 31 January 2006 Interior Minister Prince Naif yesterday called on Arab and Islamic countries to take a decisive stand on the issue of cartoons denigrating the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Its certainly insulting to all Muslims, Prince Naif told reporters about the 12 cartoons published by a Danish newspaper last September and reprinted in a Norwegian magazine in January. Saudi Arabias stand on this matter is very clear, he said. The Saudi Cabinet had earlier denounced the sacrilegious cartoons. Denmark has defended the Jyllands-Posten newspapers right to publish the cartoons that a Norwegian paper later ran. Muslims have reacted angrily, calling for goods boycotts and demanding an apology. Saudi Arabia has recalled its envoy from Denmark, Libya has closed its embassy, Kuwait said it would recall its ambassador and thousands of Palestinians marched in protest yesterday. Denmark warned its citizens in the Middle East to be cautious and companies worried about lost business. Masked gunmen briefly seized a European Union office in Gaza City to protest the cartoons and the Denmark-based dairy group Arla Foods said a boycott of its products in the Middle East was nearly total. The Danish Red Cross said it was evacuating two of its employees from Gaza and one from Yemen. The Norwegian Peoples Aid group also said it was withdrawing its two Norwegian representatives in Gaza after threats. Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen briefed European Union colleagues about the matter yesterday in Brussels. He has repeatedly rejected calls to intervene, saying the government has no say over media. But Arlas executive director urged the Danish government to take action. I urgently beg the government to enter a positive dialogue with the many millions of Muslims who feel they have been offended by Denmark, Peder Tuborgh said in a statement. Freedom of _expression_ is an internal Danish issue but this has a totally different dimension, Tuborgh said. This is about Denmark having offended millions of Muslims. Villy Soevndal, leader of the small opposition Socialist Peoples Party, said Denmark cannot be a country where the prime minister goes into hiding while Denmark loses export money, Danish citizens are being threatened and Danish flags burned. An Arla official, food products division manager Jens Refslund, said in a statement that all Arlas customers in the region have canceled their orders, and sales have come to a standstill in almost all markets. Arla Foods products have been removed from shop shelves in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates. The company has a 2.6 billion kroner ($430 million) in annual sales in the Middle East and about 1,000 employees in the region, its main market outside Europe. EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson warned Saudi Arabia that the bloc would take action at the World Trade Organization if the government supported the boycott of Danish goods, the European Commission said. Mandelson told a Saudi official that any Danish boycott would be a boycott of the European Union. He made it clear that if the Saudi government had encouraged the boycott, Commissioner Mandelson would regret having to take the issue to the WTO, said EU spokesman Peter Power. The Saudi official told Mandelson that the government had not encouraged the boycott. Arla Foods, a Danish company and the second-largest distributor of dairy products in Europe, reported that sales had dropped to nothing. "This is a public uprising," said Louis Honore, a spokesman for Arla, told the New York Times. "This has spread through the region like wildfire. And the boycott has been practically 100 percent." Jyllands-Posten, the newspaper that ran the cartoon series, had refused to apologize, saying that it violated no Danish laws. But late Monday the editor issued a statement to a Jordanian

[IslamCity] CHRISTIAN CRUSADE AGAINST ISLAM ACROSS EUROPE
Title: a reminder of your current mailing list subscription In the Name of Allah, Most Beneficent, Most Merciful CHRISTIAN CRUSADE AGAINST ISLAM ACROSS EUROPE Press Release Dated 1st February 2006 O MUSLIMS RISE TO DEFEND THE HONOUR OF THE MESSENGER MUHAMMAD (SAW)! CHRISTIAN CRUSADE AGAINST ISLAM ACROSS EUROPE DEMONSTRATION STARTING FROM DANISH EMBASSY 55 SLOANE ST LONDON SW1 FRI 3RD FEB 2006 The challenge for Muslims to either put up or shut up, to accept insults to the Messengers of Allah or to condemn such blasphemy, to abide by the law of the land or call for the Shariah has been made loudly by various newspapers and magazines in Europe reminiscent of the crusades of old. European countries have gathered together side by side, shoulder to shoulder, confronting the common enemy, a day after the state of the union address by George Bush where he said that so-called radical Islam needed to be defeated. As if the curtailing of the right of Muslims to wear Islamic dress, to support their brothers and sisters when atrocities are committed against them and to quote the divine text (as in the Sheikh Abu Hamza case) were not enough Muslims are now required to remain silent when the Messenger Muhammad (saw)s honour is attacked. Contrary to popular belief however, far from silencing the Muslim masses this latest episode in the war against Islam and Muslims is probably the issue which will unite all Muslims in condemnation and also turn the intimidated into the brave, for if Muslims are not able to defend the honour of Rasoul Allah (saw) then which sanc tity are they going to rise to defend? We therefore call on Muslims everywhere to demonstrate their anger, to raise their voices in condemnation and to forbid the evil of man made law and its proponents this Friday 3rd of February 2006, when we will be marching from the Danish embassy to the Norwegian, French, German, Italian and Spanish embassies inshaallah. The cartoons that appeared in the newspapers and which insult the Messenger Muhammad (saw) carry the death penalty in Islam for the perpetrators, since the Prophet said Whoever insults a Prophet kill him [For example in the narration collected by Al-Haakim, upon the authority of Hussain Bin Ali (ra)] In this respect Muslims do not make any distinctions between any of the Prophets of Allah (SWT) and so this would also apply to any insults levelled against Essa (as) (Jesus) or Musa (as) (Moses) or Ibraheem (as) (Abraham) etc Allah (SWT) sent his M essengers and Prophets to mankind to guide them from the darkness of following their own whims and desires into the light and beauty of obedience and subservience to him. Muslims take their ideology and belief very seriously and any insult to any Messengers and Prophets will never be tolerated, in fact the Messenger Muhammad (saw) said that we must love Allah (SWT) and his Messenger more than anyone else, including our parents and even ourselves. The Islamic verdict on individual or individuals who insult any Prophet needs to be passed by an Islamic Court and implemented by the Islamic State, rather than individuals carrying out the verdict themselves. However, sadly we find that we live in an era where there is not one country in the world implementing the Shariah, rather the 55 Muslim countries in existence today all implement non-Islamic law and their insults to the Messenger Muhammad (saw) are worse than what appears in the newspapers since they insult the Messenger Muhammad (saw) every day by ignoring his commands, since they ensure that Muslim s are kept in subservience to the West and they do not lift a finger to defend the lives, honour and property of Muslims being violated in Iraq, Palestine, Chechnya, Afghanistan etc Clearly were it not for the fact that they fear being overthrown by an angry Muslim population, not a word would have been mentioned about the current incident from the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain, Pakistan, Kuwait etc The gathering of non-Muslims against Muslims is something which has been foretold by the Messenger Muhammad (saw) and the ease with which non-Muslims today are able to insult and ridicule Islam and Muslims is testimony to the fact that any fear of repercussions from Muslims or any consequential affect on the interests of the European countries is considered irrelevant today. The division of Muslim countries in factions, the implementation of man made law, the subservience of Muslim countries to the West are some of the reasons. In addition the love of this life and the hatred of death have contributed to any fear which the non-Muslims used to have from Muslims being taken out of their hearts and rather fear of the non-Muslims has entered the hearts of Muslims. We, the followers of Ahl us-Sunnah wal Jamma call upon all Mosques to rally their congregations this Friday (after prayers) to come to this significant

[IslamCity] Human Rights in accordance to POLITICIAN'S DICTIONERY!!
EVER WONDER WHY? Why a Jew can grow his beard in order to practice his faith But when Muslim does the same, he is an extremist and terrorist! Why a nun can be covered from head to toe in order to devote herself to God But when Muslimah does the same she oppressed When a western women stays at home to look after her house and kids she is respected because of sacrificing herself and doing good for the household? But when a Muslim woman does so by her will, they say, she needs to be liberated! Any girl can go to university wearing what she wills and have her rights and freedom? But when Muslimah wears a Hijab they prevent her from entering her university! When a child dedicates himself to a subject he has potential. But when he dedicates himself to Islam he is hopeless! When a Christian or a Jew kills someone religion is not mentioned, but when Muslim is charged with a crime, it is Islam that goes to trial! When someone sacrfices himself to keep others alive, he is noble and all respect him. But when a Palestinian does that to save his son from being killed, his brother's arm being broken, his mother being raped, his home being destroyed, and his mosque being violated -- He gets the title of a terrorist! Why? Because he is a Muslim! When there is a trouble we accept any solution? If the solution lies in Islam, we refuse to take a look at it. When someone drives a perfect car in a bad way no one blames the car. But when any Muslim makes a mistake or treats people in a bad manner - people say Islam is the reason! Without looking to the tradition of Islam, people believe what the newspapers say. But question what the Quran says! *** {Invite (mankind, O Muhammad ) to the Way of your Lord (i.e. Islam) with wisdom (i.e. with the Divine Inspiration and the Qur'an) and fair preaching, and argue with them in a way that is better. [IslamCity] Fwd: from Monzer Zimmo
Thoughful article about Hamas victory.Monzer Zimmo [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: From: "Monzer Zimmo" [EMAIL PROTECTED]To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]Subject: Reality and the hypothetically impossible hypotheticalDate: Wed, 1 Feb 2006 22:28:28 -0500 Dear friends, An opinion that you might find interesting:Can the hypothetically impossible hypothetical dominate reality? Yes, in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, it can and indeed it did!Who amongst us did not hear a politician say: I will not answer a hypothetical question! We seem to have accepted that discussing hypothetical scenarios is somewhat less than productive. Moreover, discussing a hypothetical scenario that is not possible to materialize is seen by most people as a complete waste of time and energy. Nevertheless, this logical modality seems to be turned on its head when it applies to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Come to think of it, everything seems upside down in that conflict. That explains the tendency of intelligent, fair-minded people to describe the Palestinian-Israeli conflict as complex, when in fact it is a simple one - a conflict between an occupied and an occupier; between an oppressed and an oppressor; and between a totally helpless and an all powerful. Western powers seem to accept that the existence of the state of Israel, a nuclear power that has the military superiority to do virtually anything it wishes anywhere in the Middle East and beyond, is threatened by Hamas, a resistance movement that does not even declare the name of its number one leader for fear that the Israelis would kill such leader, especially after the Israelis killed its last two successive leaders - Sheikh Ahmad Yassine and Dr. Abdul-Aziz Al-Rantissi.There is something fundamentally wrong with the western perception of the current status of the conflict. Israel successfully destroyed the Palestinian society, established itself on its ruins, directly and indirectly caused the creation and prolongation of the largest and the longest outstanding refugee problem in history, and now dominates the entire Palestinian population in the West Bank, decides who and what enters and who and what leaves Gaza, exercises all forms of collective punishment over Palestinians, uproots Palestinian trees, bulldozes Palestinian homes, encircles Palestinian cities, terrorizes Palestinian population centres, restricts the movement of Palestinian children going to their schools and Palestinian farmers to their farms, destroys Palestinian infrastructure, strangles Palestinian economy, and continues to exercise the power of life and death over Palestinians. Israel does what it wishes to do when it wishes to do it, at will, and with impunity (thanks to the umbrella of diplomatic protection provided and sustained by the USA), while Palestinians struggle to survive without certainty of when the next Israeli military jet will break the sound barrier over their heads, when and where the next Israeli military incursion will takes place, or when and where the next Israeli rockets will hit and whose homes will be destroyed. Yet almost the entire western media, politicians, and pundits are focusing their attentions on the hypothetical threat by Hamas against Israel, which is not even hypothetically possible. This would be akin to some hysteria taking over America with everyone talking about a Cuban government threatening the existence of the United States of America. On January 25, 2006, Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank voted for their second Legislative Council. Hamas received 44% of the votes cast, Fatah received 41%, and others received 15% of the votes. However, the distribution of votes within the various areas resulted in a completely different picture in the number of seats won by the competing parties. Hamas won 74 seats (i.e. a majority of 56%), Fatah won 45 seats (i.e. 34%) and others won the remaining 13 seats (i.e. 10%). That resulted in the highly publicized declaration by all international media that Hamas had won a decisive victory, while the fact was that Hamas received a mandate from a minority (i.e. 44%) of those who voted. {Source: the Central Election Commission Palestine http://www.elections.ps}.Since the results were announced, the Israelis and their friends have been successful in turning the focus of international attention away from the Israeli occupation over Palestinian land and Israeli atrocities against the Palestinian people; away from Fatahs corruption, mismanagement of public affairs, and failure to achieve any progress in improving the lives of Palestinians; away from the highly successful project of social services provided by Hamas to the Palestinian people; and away from the fact that a significant majority of those who voted did not vote for Hamas. The focus, instead, has been directed towards Hamas and its declared Charter calling for the destruction of Israel. Threats from the western world piled up that
